Anyone ever hit their Comcast Bandwidth Cap? I downloaded a lot of steam games this month and I'm currently sitting at 248 of 250 GB. I don't believe I've ever hit it before and I'm worried about what is going to happen.

You likely just get a warning phone call. You can read more over at dslreports, com

depending on the area your in and the amount of traffic they usually wont complain if you go 1-2 gigs over.. but if they do they will just send a warning with a 6 month probation.. if you go over the cap in those 6 months they close your account..

but like it said it depends on your area.. i use to go over the cap all the time.. watching netflix streams and doing alpha testing for a game that required me to download 10 gig updates every 3-4 days.. never received a single letter but i also was the 1 of 6 people on the node so they just ignored me..

with 2 days left just dont go on youtube or watch netflix streaming.. turn off your windows updates and anything else that auto updates.. even playing games you shouldnt hit the cap..

My incident with Comcast and using too much bandwidth occurred back in 2008 a few months before they officially implemented the cap. I had used 490gb in a month apparently.

The guy on the phone was a real asshole. Probably one of the most condescending people I've ever talked to. He claimed that my usage represented "over 100 times" "normal" usage, though he wasn't even able to tell me how much of that was upload vs. download. It's obvious he wasn't interested in working with me in any way shape or form but rather was simply trying to scare me or something.

I asked him if I could simply switch over to their business service to continue my usage and he came back with something like "The only service we have that would allow you to continue your current usage is our commercial internet which costs $2000/month with a $5000 install fee" (I'm guessing this is what they install for massive corporate buildings?). That was obviously a straight-up lie that he pulled right out of his ass. The sales guy for Comcast Business had a different take on the issue and had no problem confirming for us in writing that there is no monthly limit before we signed our contract, and no issues so far with multiple TB per month.

But I am still really not happy about that call I got back in 2008, knowing that they really don't hesitate when it comes to lying to you if it serves their purposes and they don't give the slightest shit about you as a customer even if you've been paying them $300+ for 20+ years. fwiw the difference in support between residential and business is night and day, I'd even say it's worth the extra money.

Just a bit. :D

Never gotten a call yet.

I'm on Comcast, w/ a 6MB residential package. I used 408 gig last month, and have not, or ever heard from them.
Torrent all the time from another, secondary computer.

sholy hit what do you guys DL besides video streams and games? I'm all about torrents, but holy carp I'd have to look hard for stuff to download to get me up in the 400GB range....

these people make comcast laughable with all these overages and no extra fees(?)

Glad he's not my neighbor, I'd have having a 160ms ping just to get past my neighborhood node for 29 days of each month.

I average 275 to 300 per month without really trying. The month I setup my file server I was somewhere around 600GB.

Update...
Got a (THE) call from Comcast. I used 1.3TB last month, and will be banished for 1 year if I continue my evil ways. And I'm already over the 250GB limit by 80GB for December.

Business Class here I come.

I was fortunate enough to recently drop ComKKKast for Fios. :)

I have no idea how much bandwidth I've used this month..and don't care either. :p

kuyaglen that's not a great share ratio. I always try to seed to at least 1.5 times my download. I don't have as much total transfer but for have just over half your total runtime. But my ratio is way better. This also doesn't take into account my SoulSeek client that is also always running. No letters or calls from Comcast yet either.

He downloaded well over 400GB of isos in a single bandwidth period. A share ratio of 1.5 would mean he would need to upload 600GB. If that doesn't get you a call from your ISP, you, sir, are a lucky fool :p

What did the actual install and monthly fee end up being?

Not sure about other areas, but here Comcast HSI w/o other services, it's $58/mo for residential 15/3 (powerboost speeds -- I don't know the sustained speeds) and $60 for SMB 12/2 (no mention of powerboost). The next tier is 16/2 at $90/mo.
