Happy 15th Birthday Windows 95

-reminiscences- i still remember upgrading to 95 from win 3.1. how exciting it was!

Happy huh?

Happy birthday BSODing graphical dos box. We may as well congratulate bin laden when he has birthdays

If you look at the video, it's pretty funny how the more things change, the more they stay the same.

While that was cool and all, it really just made me realize how much I missed the 90's lol. Those were some good times. :p

A lot of people don't give Windows 95 the credit it deserves. They often compare it to today's Windows OS's. "Windows 95 sucks! Windows XP, Windows 7 are so much better."

Well. take a look at the changes that occurred moving from 3.11 to 95.
-no more 8.3 file names (try naming all your music and video files this way)
-No more conventional, upper, extended and expanded memory
-A registry for all the program info and configurations instead of a mess of .ini files
-Easier management of drivers.
-plus many more.

I'd have to say the release of Windows 95 was the greatest leap Microsoft ever made.

Ah, the memories. First time install, from floppy! All 13 of them.

Yeah I feel a little old now... *LOL* Oh well, just for old times sake I'm loading a copy of it into VirtualBox. It's like visiting an old friend (but you know you won't stay too long). ;)

15 years ago today – Windows 95 launched.

18 years ago today – Hurricane Andrew caused $25.6 billion in damage with over 175mph gusts at the Turkey Point nuclear power plant.

179 years ago today – Charles Darwin is asked to travel on HMS Beagle.

554 years ago today – The printing of the Gutenberg Bible is completed.

1931 years ago today – Mount Vesuvius erupts. The cities of Pompeii, Herculaneum, and Stabiae are buried in volcanic ash.

actually, it does feel like a long time and I don't really miss it. Remember configuring individual startup/load sequences to maximize memory availible for different games? Ugh!

-A registry for all the program info and configurations instead of a mess of .ini files.

WTH? I purposely search for and use portable apps over installed apps. This was the biggest failing of Win95+ IMO. The mess is the Windows registry.

Thought it was time to post something... and break out the Win95 CoA.

I expect the same type of post for Windows ME when it turns 10 in 21 days, :D
and Windows XP turning 10 next year.

Although we missed Win2k Turning 10 in February...

I do find it interesting that the eager anticipation of the new version of Windows has been replaced with the dread of the next upgrade.

LOL @ the fat, clunky laptops back in the day.
Didn't they flash some people using a computer with a CRT at a coffee shop too?

I actually stuck with 3.11 till 98SE came along. I was young and didn't know better.

too many CRT's!!!! I was a Systems Analyst during our Borough upgrade from 3.11 WFWG to 95 ... good times!

Great Operating System!!!!! Even with all the advancements the computer industry made, this is still by far my fav MS-OS (Besides Windows NT 4.0)

Happy Birthday Windows 95!!!!!!

I was talking about this the other day with some friends. With win95 came the first time I ever saw a website (took about 20 minutes to load the home page). It seems like yesterday in human terms and seems like centuries ago in terms of technology.

Wow. I remember anxiously awaiting Gateway2000 to send me Win95 at launch so I could finally upgrade from 3.11. I thought it would never arrive...

Ahhh, the days of 256 colors. I wish Vista/Win7 still allowed me to set this so I could reminisce of elementary school :p.

I was very excited about the Win95 launch, I remember getting it immediately, that was like huge back then, oh and Encarta with MPEG1 video !!!!
