SPECS:

ASUS P6X58D-E
i7 930 (stock)
G.SKILL 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Triple Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL9T-6GBNQ
XFX 5870
CORSAIR 650W
WINDOWS 7 64-BIT

I have 6gb of memory in the board, but at first only 2gb was showing up in Windows 7. So I turn on X.M.P. according to g.skill's advice, and now 4gb show up. The strange thing is that all 6 gigs of ram show up according to CPU-Z. Has anyone here experienced this problem, and if so did you resolve it? I've found various threads all over the internet about it but no clear solution yet. The memory is currently occupying slots A1, B1, and C1.

this seems to be a common issue throughout many x58 boards for some odd reason.

Check out this thread it has many suggestions on what can be going wrong.

I am also experiencing this issue with my corsair xms3 6gb set, only showing 4gb and once in a while it shows the full 6gb, but its never constant.

Right, hm... of course I don't hear about this issue until after I assemble the system ;p It's also worth noting that I'm using a Thermalright Cogage True Spirit cooler, but I don't think that the back plate is making contact with the board. I can try adjusting the screws on the mount, as I wasn't initially sure how tightly they should be screwed in. It's a pretty intimidating HSF to begin with... although there seems to be another boat of people stating that they adjusted their HSF or even put the stock one back on and still had no luck.

Good luck getting it to work with the stupid X.M.P. profile.

It is best to set everything manually.

Ive had this same issue using the thermaltake frio, what i did to correct it was reseat the cpu and when i mounted the cooler back on i turned each bolt 1/4 turns till it started to feel tight then i turned the pc on and checked and all my RAM was back. So im pretty sure these coolers are flexing the sockets or flexing the board in a certain area.

I disabled XMP and went to manual, still showing 4gb.

AthlonX2: Were you showing 4gb in windows, and the BIOS, with 6gb in CPU-Z? Also, I ran a memtest last night and memtest detected all 6 gigs and it ran 10 passes with 0 errors. Guess I'll have to reseat the CPU.

this is common on x58 board, just reseat everything until it show up, btw this is not window problem if it detect all in bios you will have full usable in windows

I haven't reseated anything yet, but here's something weird... All 6 gigs are being recognized today. When I look at the dram timing control though, it reads 7-7-7-20 in the "1st Information" which isn't at all correct for my ram.

If the timings are that far off, then it is probably not running at the correct speed either. Like I said before.... set all the settings manually.

Also, do you have the latest bios? The newest one is 0303.

Just updated the BIOS today. And yeah, I think it was setting those timings because it wasnt running at 1600mhz by default.

The problem only appears on a cold boot so I won't know for sure if the problem still happens with the new bios until tomorrow.
