I love my Coolermaster cases. I do have one burning question regarding the stuff they give you with each case. In addition to the usual screws; brass standoffs, etc, I've been dumbfounded by the presence of the metal ring in the bag of goodies. It looks like a freaking graphite colored lifesaver. It's not magnetic and I've yet to find any reason for it's presence cept to piss me off. I suppose I could save them and use them as fishing weights, but it would be great if [H] members could shed some light on WTH these things are.

Thanks

I always wondered what this was as well. Maybe for putting over the whole when you pop out a prefab cutout in the case? I am sure someone here will enlighten us.

Yep, thread your front panel switch and LED wires through it a couple of times to prevent electrical noise generated from the motherboard from having an easy exit from the chassis.

(thats the intent anyway)

Interresting. I have seen them on electronics, but never heard of using one for case wires. Does it work?

I'm sure it works, but I doubt you could see any difference... they're LED's and switches.

It might have more impact if you used it on your front panel audio and USB wiring?

Maybe, I don't use my front panel audio though... I ran a splitter, one wire goes to my speakers / mixer, and another goes to a headphone amp + headphones. But that's my setup.

I have noticed more noise from front panel headers / onboard audio though. But I think that was more the onboard audio than the front panel header, because I used my Asus Xonar D1 and it was fine with the same case.

Thanks Bill. That clears it up for me:D

Would one of these help with the horrible buttons on the Silverstone Raven RV-02? The buttons either have to be held down for a long time or pressed repeatedly with a lot of pressure.

Thanks,

KI

Oh, I always thought otherwise. I use it most of the time as something to keep my case screws running off the table when I service my case. :)

That wouldn't help those buttons. That's more of a switch issue.

Well, that's certainly a relief. Always figured it was some part of the manufacturing process that they just wanted to get rid of so instead of them throwing it away, they rely on the customers to do it.

Going to give it a go when I build my next system to see if it actually helps.

Hahaha - I'm sorry but you just put a hilarious visual in my head.

"Hey, Mike, what do we do with all these tiny little metal rings left over from our steel cutting and bending? Want I should throw them in the trash bin with the rest of the stuff?"

"Nah, throw it in a baggie and put it in the case. Let's let the customer figure it out."

"Will do!"

Will the 600T have a free metal ring?! Inquiring minds want to know ;)

No but the first 15 buyers get a wrapper from a piece of Trident gum, personally wadded up and thrown into the box by me. I would have done all 16 that came in the pack, but I bought the pack and chewed the first piece before I read this.

Note: this is a joke I will not be throwing gum wrappers into computer case boxes.
