I am thinking of jumping on the I7 train and picking up a 980x and a rampage III, but I was wondering what is the best ram for the mobo...im looking for at least 12gigs. Thanks.

Man, that is a slick looking board.
Don't have one, but I use Corsair Dominators on my Classified and I can't say I'm disappointed.

I looked up the vendor list supplied by Asus, and it looks like Corsair, Kingston and Crucial are well represented.

Ahh, yea I just ended up going with some dominators...I like corsairs customer service incase anything ever goes wrong.

The best ram will take you some time to find, or special order.

Right now the best ram I have seen is built off an Elpida IC, which I have seen used on Super Talent Speed 2200 C8. This ram will hit 2000mhz at 7-7-7-21. That is just ridiculous.

Corsair I believe also uses this same Elpida IC, but they will be ridiculously expensive if you buy from Corsair. I'm not sure if Mushkin has this IC yet, I haven't seen it. I'd check though as Mushkin has great quality like Corsair, they hand test and give a lifetime warranty, but doesn't jack the prices up into the stratosphere.

I'm not sure if Super Talent tests their high end ram, which is why I'm not flat out recommending them. Someone else can chime in, as getting it from Super Talent will probably be easiest as we know they have that IC.

What these faulty Elpida IC ?

Corsair recently announced that it would halt sales of high-end Dominator GT memory modules that utilise Elpida Hyper ICs due to an unacceptable rate of failure.

With Elpida's Hyper ICs used by the majority of big-name memory providers, we expected other manufacturers to make their customers aware of the potential problem and first to follow Corsair's lead is OCZ.

I have the G Skill Trident 2000mhz, and it rocks the house. The only thing I noticed, 12gb was not on the supported list for this board. I did not want to drop an extra 189.00 to experiment with it, so I only run 6 gigs.

I just asked my friend about the elpida ic's being faulty. From what he told me, the original shipments of the ic's did not suffer faults like this, and the most likely explanation is that they tried to expand production and obviously are having quality control issues on the newer line.

You made a good move on the Dominators... you can never go wrong with those

Gskill and Mushkin makes good RAMs too

Anything with the fixed Elpida Hyper chips (MGH-E) would be nice paired with a R3E. The ones that had problems with failures were MNH-E, and even then it was only certain batches. A good deal on a nice kit would be these HyperX 2000 C8, or the aforementioned Super Talent 2000 C7 or 2200 C8 kits available from ewiz.com.
