Great news! You can now upload 15 minute videos to YouTube. Time to start making director’s cut YouTube videos with added content you left out of your original 10 minute videos.

YouTube, which was bought by Google in 2006 for 1.65 billion dollars, said in March that 24 hours worth of video are being uploaded to the video-sharing site every minute. YouTube has been gradually adding professional content such as full-length television shows and movies to its vast trove of amateur video offerings in a bid to attract advertisers.

sweeeeet

Now we can view 15 minutes of blonde bimbos putting on their lipstick...

what, did you think I was being sarcastic? ;)

YES!
Now I can watch that guy try to cut paper, with an Axe, for 15 minutes, instead of just a few.

Unfortunately they also busted the ability to download different formats of a video using utilities. The .mp4 options (like HQ18) no longer appear when using things such as DownloadHelper.

Luckily, the clever folks at DH came up with a work-around. More cat & mouse :)

If you pay, you are allowed to have longer videos.

There are two situations I know of... if you made an account before they put the limit in then you had no limits. And still don't.

The other one is if your channel is popular enough to get the attention of Youtube themselves they might make you a "partner" which means they put ads on your channel / videos and send you a cut. But this also means they remove the restrictions on length of the video.

Ever since VDH for Firefox was upgraded to 4.8 from 4.7.4, I haven't been able to download music videos from YT. What's the workaround solution? TIA.

Now if they could just figure out a way to have 1080p videos actually stream in realtime more than 5 minutes a day...

I download youtube videos with FireBug. It's a fair bit more technical than the other solutions but it works for every single video site I have tried.

Getting a Producer flag might be easier if your account has no marks from DMCA takedowns. Damn you, high quality rip of Widespread Panic performing on Conan O'Brien!

great so longer videos that will always pop up an "An Error has occurred" if I view them on any 3rd party site instead of directly from youtube.

Well this would be neat if YouTube would actually F'ing worked...it has sucked ass over the past few days, and I have begun to hate that goddamn swirly thing...

cool i guess but most utube vids cant hold my interest for more than 1 min

DownloadHelper is a great add-on!

How is it that some videos are 20+ minutes?

Yeah recently seen a video didn't watch it fully but it went for over 1hr 19 mins. So yeah whats the deal there when they say 15 minutes.
Only thing I can think of is the person is a partner or whatever they call it !!

You can apply to be a Google Partner which overlays ads at the bottom/before your videos. You get a share of the ad revenue and the time limits are lifted.

what about the crappy new playlist bar at the bottom of the window looks like they didn't take into account netbook users with that option
