Old box shit the bed. Thought it was the PS, but no dice on a swapout, so me being the lazy, impatient ass that I am, trudged down to Worst Buy to see what was still available that had a PCI slot so I wouldn't have to buy another network card.

Ended up with an E5500, 4GB, 1TB for $499 with just enough slots to accomodate my current video and network card.

Kudos to Asus for putting a model/SN sticker on the inside front cover of the manual so you never have to fart around the back of the system. Little things like that really make a nice difference.

In an almost prophetic move, it was only a month ago that I finally broke down and bought an auto-backup drive. Thanks to this, my 56GB of videos and MP3s are safe and sound on the new system :)

Network card? You got one of them fancy Killer NIC cards? Or just Gigabit? I would expect Asus systems to have integrated 10/100 at least.

Why do you need a pci slot for your nic!? All motherboards now include 10/100/1000, I haven't seen anything less in quite a while. Also if you hate Best buy so much why did you go there to buy a PC?

Should've picked up that killer G73 with the i7 720q, 6 gigs DDR3 and 5870 for $1299. :p God knows I would if I had the extra cash.

So are store-bought desktop towers easy to add/upgrade a video card to?

I'm in need of a new PC for HTPC and have a decent video card, but need practically everything else. Piecing one together off newegg is more expensive than just a tower... hmm.
