Okay so I'm looking for a good processor for the following uses, DAW software, Batch Conversions (.ogg to .xxx), Photo editing and Video editing and encoding, and moderate mult-tasking. I can sift through the other parts that I need from a system but I was wondering which proccessor would be the best option for such things. Also would a good GPU help for photo/video at all, or would just getting more RAM be a better option?

I don't mind either AMD or Intel proccessors but I'd much prefer for the them to be in the price range mentioned.

I shall be using http://www.scan.co.uk/ and www.overclockers.co.uk/ for my potential purchases. Over-clocking potential is not essential or really desired.

Thanks for any help.

Since you're not overclocking, the AMD Phenom II X6 1055T should fit your needs quite nicely.

GPU wise, will you be using Adobe CS5? If so, an Nvidia card would be needed. I think the GTX 460 should be enough.

Hey Danny :) Yes I shall be Using CS5 and most likey Fireworks and after effects. But don't you think that nVidia card is slightly overkill? D:

Hmmm, if that's the case wouldn't an ATI card be better suited? I've heard that these days ATI are top for GPU power? :S Like the Radeon HD 5770?

Not for CS5. For gaming yes the HD 5770 is a good choice. But for CS5 and the MPE feature, not the best choice. Did you not read the thread I linked?

Thanks for the insight :) What about high frequency RAM? Nay or Yay? I'm only looking for parts that will actually benefit :L I realise I'm not being that helpful ><

No real world performance increase from high frequency or low latency RAM. So you could have DDR3 2200 or DDR3 1333 with 5-5-5-24 timings and it still would feel and perform about the same as DDR3 1333/1600 with 9-9-9-23 timings.
