Droid X Sells Out on Day One

Impressions hmmm
first off... I work for verizon and used to work for att selling the iphone

Screen is awesome
I miss sense
Hdmi I great... but I wish you could watch rented movies through the hdmi
Best camara I have seen great settings and video

I almost wish moto would move the physical buttons to the side of the phone beside the screen. But I know it wouldn't good for left handers. There is a rather large reach when trying to press the physical buttons. Almost can't do 1 handed operation.

In all an excellent phone. If the incredible was readily available I might go with it because of sense but I am in love with the increase screen real estate

almost every location I know of sold out besides my store. ( I live in a smaller town ) It may be sold out now for all I know, I was off today. The Best Buy in my area didn't even get any. not even a display model. I just talked to a friend of mine at BBM today. The order are backordered now until the 27th but that isn't as bad as the incredible, which is still at 30 days. Mine should be here by the 23rd for my personal line. I would have already gotten it but I was switching from alltel to an employee account and that takes time.

by the way... I like the FX-60 in your sig...good chip

oh and sorry man, but I can't give out actual numbers but google is your friend!

Thanks for the impressions. If you're new to smartphones, know that the GPS is a 1 to 2 hour event and then it's over. I'm sure you can feel how hot it gets during that time. And give the battery a few cycles before you make a judgement on that. Finally, typing on a phone's display takes time, but eventually, you'll get really fast @ it.

unrelated to the droid x but most definitely related to motorola.

i bought a cliq and after being dicked around so much and for so long by motorola in regards to an OS update, you wont see any motorola purchases in my near future.

No pictures, but impressions, I can give you, and you can get pictures all over the place.

My wife and I got our first Smartphones yesterday; we switched from AT&T to Verizon at the same time. We were NEVER interested in the iPhone, for various reasons, but the biggest might have been "it's sometimes too late to make a second impression"... the first person I ever met and talked with about the iPhone said it was a game changing device, and then got a call. Thirty seconds later, he was yelling into the phone "I can't hear you, can you hear me?" I pulled out my AT&T cellphone, and had full bars, dialed up my wife, listened to him complaining about his reception (before the iPhone dropped him TWICE), and realized "I use a cellphone as a PHONE". I hear they've gotten better even as cell phones, but....

My wife and I have had essentially the EXACT same experience as you. We went from 3-year old LG chocolate phones to the Droid X, and its quite a change. My battery life is in the 10-hour range because I've been tweaking it and spending way too much time on it. Of course that doesn't bother me because my previous phone lasted 3-5 minutes of talk time before cutting off. I, unlike my wife, will be using the phone more as an internet device than a phone. I would have gotten one of the POS free phones if I didn't care about the internet.

My big decision when making the switch was a road trip with my extended family a month ago in which we got lost for a total of 5 hours (GPS now solves that) and I was bored to tears the whole time (internet solves that). I already used the phone in a doctor's waiting room for over an hour when I would have otherwise been stuck reading about home decor in a Home & Garden magazine.

While I don't have much from which to compare, every other smartphone I tried is trumped by the X. Call quality is significantly better than my previous phone and when comparing the phone side-by-side friends' phones the X seems faster, easier to view, and overall better.

Yep, really guys, only people who come to forums like this give a fuck about the OS on a phone. People just like shinny new shit and the HD2 is a hell of a phone. Would have gotten one but only on T-Mobile. I'm sure the best Windows 7 Phonse will sell out pretty quickly too.

Funny, about 90% of my non-tech friends' reasons for buying a phone is what kind of OS is on it and what it can do. While people like shiny new devices, it does matter what those shiny new devices have.
