Does it bother you when someone else has 'YOUR' in-game name?

You think that's bad? Try having it, and another variation taken. Normally I try to get "Azureth" but if that is taken I use "Azurethor". Only one time has both been taken.

In WoW? :p

I tend to change my name in Steam quite often.

@Standpoint....If I was going to be pissed about people using "my" name, I wouldnt put it in the first sentence of my post:D.

To Commander FAT: I think I've seen you online before. I thought my name was pretty unique too. I really can't think of why someone would take my name, but you never know.

I'm pretty confident it was me. Do you remember what game? Lately I've been playing lots of MW2.

RomeoOscarBravo (ROB) is often taken, it doesn't really bother me though.

I have a ponchant for expensive Swiss watches (Omega Seamaster's and Tag Heuer's) so OMEGA is what I normally use, it's normally quite common in game so I slap a [UK] on it

I have no idea why my name on here is spicey, it means nothing to me, it's just some shit I typed in 6 years ago. It's not even spelt correctly if it's meant to be spicy. I never expected to use the forums so much. I'd change it to something else if I could

I wanted to use Frost when I first started playing games many moons ago and even back then Frost and Frosty were both very popular, I ended up using the name PrincessFrosty since then and only tend to use Frost if its available, I managed to get Frosty in BFBC2 because I was early into the beta \o/

I've also had old friends from other games spot me in other ones, like old UT buddies found me in Planetside which was cool :)

gotta hate common names.

I use the "Urnefar" in all my games. In english it might sound alittle like some kind of gothic-y dragons name, but really it means Urn Dad in danish :)

Yes, especially when your chosen name is an entirely made up word or a typo

I've been Hoju for years but often have to choose Majinhoju since it's taken.
Majin: got it from MajinBuu from dbz
Hoju: Want to change your name to Homer Junior? your friends can call you Hoju! - Homer Simpson

I would be a little annoyed. I've been playing with the same name in all games since '99, and haven't seen it.

That's the nice thing about Steam. You can change it whenever you want to whatever you want.

I like and hate this at the same time. Its fun if you have a bunch of friends in something like MW2 and you go for a theme. Not so cool when grievers use it to hide their identity or switch their personality depending on their name (Madbomber or JihadJim, being marty/tube/RPG make everything go boom, even teammates, type playing style).

How much does it bother you to find your in-game name taken?

It would only bother me in co-op w/ voice comms.

But I've been using the same game name since 99'. And 27 other Steam users use the same name as I do. And I've never been unable to use my name of choice because someone else grabbed it.

I use quite a few different alias'.

If I had ONE unique one I suppose it would bother me.

LOL, my game nick has been Ghost since Quake III arena. Safe to say it doesn't bother me.

What IS the origins of Chombo? In my mind's eye, I imagine someone eating dumplings. Yeah, I donno. :)

From what I can tell there is at least one other SPARTAN VI running around (who happens to be an immature prick kid), but I pretty much grabbed the tag everywhere I care to. It's my XBL gamertag and Steam ID, so it doesn't get any more official than that. Might as well print it on my birth certificate too!

Yes it does bother me, really pissed me off when I had to rename both of my wow characters when I moved to a server with some real life friends last year. I had Darkpaw on my druid since launch and 2 or 3 previous other moves. I thought I had a unique name for my DK, but was wrong and had to change that too.

For FPS games, I used the very generic "shadow" in the Q1 days and figured that wasn't going to work well so came up with something more unique for Q2 and haven't had any issues with that since.

I use names derived from Roman (Latin), either real names or ones made up from Latin words. It seems to work good, even in WoW, where very few people seem to use a similar strategy. The cool thing about WoW is that if you really want a name and are not wedded to a server, you can always find another one where the name is available.

Drives me nuts. Someone out there keeps ripping off my name in newer games making me choose something else. Have yet to run into him but when i do...

I have an issue... Specially in flight sims :(

With a name like "Pappy" I can see how a black sheep like your self might have a hard time with their nick getting nicked in a MP flight sim. :p

I rarely have a problem with it. I have the nick I want on Steam, UBI, GFWL, EA, and their associated forums. Even if I did see a pretender, it would not bother me.

Scuba Steve was my very first back playing socom 2 on ps2... it stuck for my 4 years of socom 2 and 1 year of socom 3... by the end of my socom 3 days it was everywhere, and you could no longer get the original Scuba Steve in other games.... so i came up with Free Sample

Free Sample is taken in most games now also, and i got sick of it and thought of a new one....

Easy Nuke Oven. Thought of it while playing mw2... I was using my nuke class and after 4 nukes in a row, a buddy told the other team "watch out he's a nuke machine" and the name Easy Nuke Oven popped in my head, (named after Easy Bake Oven for those of you who don't know). It was definitely not on xbox live so i got it :) I use it in my pc games now too, and have yet to have it taken. However, i know for a fact that there have been copiers on xbox live, because a few have even told me that they were doing it... and even tthat bothered me after i already had the name as my own lol... i should chick on my ps3 to see if its taken by one of them already :\

I think this is the end of the world as we know it...... Everybody run to your underground bunkers and prepare yourselves because OH MY FREAKING GOD someone else is using your name in an online game.

you've been a hard member for 6.3 years... don't act like theres nothing online that matters to you.

Yes! Back in 96/97 I started using Avatar as my nick, no one used it and few people knew what it ment.
a few years ago thanks the the last air bender it became more popular and now thanks to Mr Cameron (curse you) I can rarely use it anywhere (still few people actually know where it comes from), cytech was my fallback and is becoming my main "nick" on the interwebz

It's annoying. I stopped using Shadowspawn since there were a lot of fans of the Thievesworld series of books.

I use Pukeolicious now and have never seen anybody else use it.

I have about five names that I can cycle through. The one I use for HardForum is actually my least used one these days. For the games that allow duplicate names and name changes (CSS, but I believe it goes by your Steam account name now? I haven't played since the update) I will just cycle through the list.

noobman is probably the most commonly used name I have.

I've used mine for a while. It seems that there is an imposter on the web right now that uses a lower case K & is on sites that I wouldn't care to be on at all. Plus the difference in age is 4 years.

Most of the sites & games I use it with aren't a problem at all. My alternate is usually CrimsonSentinel or CrimsonSentinel13.

Darkpaw is the surname of one of the more famous MMO characters, Fippy Darkpaw.

I used to get hung up about it when I put alot of time into a game, create a name for myself; Then someone (usually a douchebag) uses it and kills my online rep lol.

Now I use so many different names I don't care.

My fave right now is "Space ChowChow"

Doesn't bother me because I realize I'm too uminaginative to do much besides pirate names from the books I read.

I used to go by Sniper back in the Quake days. Then Sn1p3r when I first ran into someone with that name. Then I even saw that and variations so I went with Loki but those were just as prevalent. Then got sick of seeing people with very similar names so concocted a new name that I knew no one would ever have. Chameleon (my play style) + Loki = Chameleoki

That it is, and also wasn't allowed as a surname in EQ so I played for 6 years with the surname of Blackpaw, which was the closest I could get.

I heard Fippy got a bit buff, but haven't really paid any attention to EQ since 06 or so.

I don't have to worry about it, the advantage of a completely made-up name.

Though I did see someone using it for a WoW character for a while. Made me curious more than anything...was it someone I knew from an earlier game? Who knows, but they namechanged and I am back to having the monopoly on this name.
