FREE Music For You!

A couple of people have reported trouble opening the ZIP files (they're not password protected!!) - we think the problem is from the long file name with brackets in it. We're goign to reupload later today, but in the meantime an easy workaround is to just rename the file Decline.zip after you download it.

Man, these computer-website thingamajigs are hard!

As other have said, looks to be password protected when I try to extract (tried with Windows and 7-zip). Am I missing something?

*edit for the above (posted 1 minute after you, sorry). I still could not extract after renaming the zip. Thanks Corp.Goon for the downloads BTW. I can't wait to listen to the album.

I also am experiencing issues with the unzipping of these files. which is a total bummer. If you run out of upping bandwidth, I too have 3 dedicated file servers to host as mirrors for you.

Are you guys finding both the MP3 and FLAC archive to be password protected? We're trying to replicate the problem and have tested on several machines running linux, XP, and Win7 so far but haven't been able to replicate the problem.

It's just you ;-) (Yeah Uncommon Things 2 is a bit explosions-in-the-sky-esque - I think you'll find the rest of the album is less so. I do love that band, though).

For those of you trying to having trouble unzipping, try WinRAR - we made the archives with WinRAR and a couple friends have downloaded and opened with WinRAR and had no problems. My bandmate is making a new archive with WinZIP and uploading it now so hopefully that will solve the problem for the rest of you.

Here's what's happening:

I used winrar 3.62, then 3.93.
Same issues both times.

No dice.

When did you download that file? About an hour ago, the ZIP files were changed to remove the '...' from the folder name which should have fixed that issue with unzipping the archive. If you rename the folder inside the ZIP file "Decline" instead of 'The Decline & Fall Of...", it should work for you.

This is an independent issue from the the password-protect issue, though (I think).

wanted to say. A teeny tiny bit of it reminded me of piebald. teeny tiny bit. little bit of the drums i'm thinking is what it was.

The updated (alt.) link worked like a charm. Your group has a very filling and unique sound.

Thanks so much everyone for your help in getting this stuff working. We (the band) all really appreciate it!

Thanks for letting us listen to your music! Can't wait to hear what you guys have produced.

Thanks, CG. I was able to download it from Ihaveworms' mirror. Unzipping w/ WinZip worked just fine. Just curious why the MP3 uses 192 kbps (CBR) instead of VBR? That would be a better quality MP3 in terms of encoding. I see you also have the FLAC, so I'll grab that as well. Thanks again for sharing your album with [H].

theres actually not much of a difference between CBR and VBR.. the biggest difference is file sizes.. since its 192kbps across the whole song instead of 0 during the silent parts where bitrate/data isnt needed..

figured this needed a boost to the first page again since this is the last day its free.. though ill definitely be buying the album.. im not usually a indie music person but just the fact that it has classical instruments and specifically the cello which played for 14 years and regret not playing anymore is a good enough reason for me to buy it..

its because the file names are to long.. try setting the save location to versa or v and see what happens.. ill mess around with it later see if i can figure it out..

Actually, VBR goes above 192 kbps in parts of the audio file where "there's a lot going on" and yes, goes close to or at 0 in silent parts. VBR will always be better than CBR for a given file size. Of course the highest quality MP3 is 320 kbps CBR b/c it just remains constant.

I've only listened to a few tracks so far. (I recently bought a Squeezebox Boom, so I've been listening to Internet radio on that a lot.) I noticed that the ID3 tags are blank. I'm not complaining; I'm just making an observation. :)

I haven't listened to the FLAC version yet. Maybe I'll listen to it on my aforementioned Squeezebox Boom since it supports that format.

I like the album, and thanks for offering them, but man don't you know how to tag files? :p

Of course I know how to tag files but was just mentioning as an observation. For example, Amazon's MP3s are tagged. (Not sure about iTunes b/c I don't buy music from there.)

This is good stuff. Thanks for the free download. Keep us posted on stuff you do in the future.

ok for those of you that downloaded the FLAC version of this album i finally got around to figuring out why its screwing up... the folder name inside the zip file is to long..

how to fix it.. open it in winrar or winzip.. right click the folder and click rename.. rename it to something shorter.. then click ok and let it reprocess the zip file.. then extract it and bam your done..

No, not you, the original poster! It would've saved everyone a lot of time if the files were properly tagged from the get-go.

LOL, yeah, I agree, and I mentioned that as well, as "constructive criticism". :D

Hey folks,

Just giving this a little bump to mention that *finally*, after some unexpected delays, the album is available on iTunes:

http://itunes.apple.com/ca/album/id385196659

We're leaving the album up on our website for free for a few more days - http://www.versa-music.com. We'll have some new music videos and things going on soon.

Thanks again everyone for the interest and for downloading the album - hope you're enjoying it!
