I'm making a SFF pc but I can't decide on which case to get. This is for a mATX and for gaming.

How is the cooling in the SG03 compared to the PC-V351?

Any other thoughts on them?

I think the PC-V351 is better, because the SG03's cooling is not good without cutting a blowhole. Although from what I hear the V351 could certainly be better as well.

SG04 may have worse airflow since it's got that thing in front of the intake. V352 is probably about the same as the V351 since the amount of fans is the same, they're just moved around. Someone else may know more about the airflow of the V352 though.

The basic problem with these cases is there's not enough exhaust. Hot air builds up and has no way of getting out.

What you fail to mention is the type of components you plan to put into the case. If its a 1156 mobo and cpu the SG03 and a H50 will be okay. AMD build would be okay too since they typically run cooler due to less power consumption I'm thinking. But if you want it to be a beefier rig with something like i7 920 or even more potent then a case with better airflow would be ideal. Also the GPU can make a difference. Just how big of a card are you going to stick in it? And then there is the overclocking issue to be considered. Are you going to overclock? Just what exactly do you plan to put in it?

Btw, if you want a SG03 but can't do the blowhole and fan mod on top you can buy the SG03 from PerformancePCs and they will do it for you.

ahh ok thanks. I think I'll get a PC-V351 with H50 cooler.

Just be aware that there is some minor modding that needs to be done if you want to use the H50. There's a few threads floating around this forum that discuss it.

I'm thinking of putting something like this in it

CPU AMD AM3 Phenom II X4 955BE
Mobo Gigabyte GA-880GM-USB3
RAM G.Skill-NT 4GB DDR3-1333
HDD WD Green 640GB from old PC
GPU ASUS HD 4870 Glaciator 1GB from old PC
Case Lian Li PC-V351
PSU Antec Signature 600W from old PC
CPU HSF Corsair H50

Maybe some overclocking but not really a main priority.

How about the Noctua NH-U9B-SE2, does it compare with the H50 if I don't overclock?

Assuming the H50 fits that mobo, and I dont see why it wouldn't but check anyway, it will cool your planned cpu just fine. put the H50 radiator on the top front fan spot. Be sure to add a fan, like the one in my sig, in the front bottom fan slot. Should cool nicely. As far as that Noctua hsf goes I believe it is too tall.

Don't know if this helps but here are some pics of mine to compare for space:

Probably better off with the NH-C12P. The NH-U9B needs to be installed after the motherboard tray is in because the heatpipes protruding from the top will hit the chassis if you slide the tray in and out. The NH-C12P might hit the sides of the case depending on where the CPU socket is located on your motherboard and how the heatsink is orientated. More often than not, it fits fine though. Lots of good information in the V350/V351 thread.

Some people said the NH-U9B is better as it's fan is vertical blowing the air horizontally while the NH-C12P blows the air up where there isn't much room.

I think you meant the C12P blows the air downwards. :p I've also read some people flipping the fan on the C12P so that it blows upwards into the PSU and have produced decent results. Again, the choice for me if I were to get the V351, which I very well may do since my opinion on my A05N changes day to day, I'd go with the C12P for compatibility reasons or even the Thermalright AXP-140 or CoGage MST-140. But if you're OK with cutting notches in the V351, the U9B would be just fine.

seeing as the same place that sells the PC-V351 also sells the C12P but not the H50. I'll probably get the C12P. Unless the H50 is way better at cooling?

Here you'll see that the H50 keeps a 150 W source to 20.7 degrees C above ambient and the C12P keeps it 21.2 degrees C above ambient, so not that much difference really.

I'm going to sell my old PC so my build will be like this now.

CPU AMD AM3 Phenom II X4 955BE
Mobo Gigabyte GA-880GM-USB3
RAM G.Skill-NT 4GB DDR3-1333
HDD Samsung SpinPoint F3 1TB
GPU <5830?>
Case Lian Li PC-V351
PSU Antec Signature 650W from old PC
CPU Noctua NH-C12P SE14

5830 is best value card for 1080p @ $200-$215 but me personalty i would get 1055t.

I have heard a lot of horror stories about the new 6 cores killing motherboards (particularly micro ATX ones) because of the power demands they have (even though they aren't 140W) even without overclocking.

I Think, You shoud wait for new Lian-Li V354. No problem with Corsar H50 etc...

btw If i were to build a Mini ITX in a SG05 is there any reason why I shouldn't pick AMD phenom II's. A lot of people here seem to go Intel for Mini ITX.

the Sugo 03 in my sig has been going strong for 27 months now, i have had no problem with cooling even with the ridiculous equipment stuffed in it.

the top blow-hole was tried in early Sugo03 protoypes, but tony ou said they ditched because it made no difference.

It would if only for a single rad watercooling setup. :)
