Do you have a few….well not really just a few, old CD’s or DVD’s collecting dust on a shelf? Turn those puppies into a brand new 16GB iPhone 4 and send them to iPodmeister. How cool is this…..

Company owner Kris Schrey told us he takes the CDs and re-sells them in other parts of the world where people still listen to the silver plastic discs. "In the United States, CDs are going out of fashion, but overseas, people still listen to CDs, and you can get good money for them if you sell in large volumes," says Schrey.

So you turn great quality audio into dropped calls! How could I lose?!?!?!

$3500.00 + worth of CDs and DVDs for $199.99 or whatever. Such a deal…

The only ppl who complain about shitty coverage live in non populated areas, if you dont like it don't buy it, no ones forcing you

This kind of "deal" has been floating around for 5+ years now, on craigslist, eBay, etc. It's a scam really...

Even if you do send them 350 CDs, that's an excessive amount of value for a damned phone - at ~$10 a disc you're looking at a shitload of lost value compared to getting the phone.

I've never known anyone to do it so, if you're up for losing on the deal, go for it.

We'll not if you could send them copies, then it would actually be a deal. It's still music that he could sell to other countrys to listen too and it's a cd. ;)

True, but one thing is for certain: you're not going to get any phone first - they're not gonna ship anything till they get the CDs and inspect them, and go through 'em and decide which ones they want and which ones they'll send back.

I just consider this "offer" a scam and move on every time I see it.

Actually I got an iPhone 2G from a friend and while my Blackberry gets 5 bars in my house, the iPhone gets no service. Magical. I guess non-existent to horrible isn't bad for 4 generations of trying to make a proper antenna.

Did it ever explicitly specify that they had to be music CDs? Send him 350 old AOL subscription CDs. :)

Or you could make the same cd-quality backup copies of all of them before you send them.

You can't actually live in a non populated area. As soon as you live in it it's populated. But the reason people hate crApples asses, is because they lie and cheat stupid sheeple. And the bad reception is only if your left handed and have a wedding ring on, and the runes haven't been aligned for the magic to happen(which only happens on a full moon, I don't understand astrology), and is TOTALLY YOUR FAULT BITCHEz. See you in the twilight line.

A CD shop was presumably closing up so they were clearing them out for $.25. Decent CDs, Matchbox 20, boy bands, jazz, just basic CDs and not damaged from what I saw. They had way more than 350, so this might work especially if the rent period ended and they have them in boxes.

They might even be able to do some accounting, where a Trik Turner CD has no fair market value after not selling for five years, but 350 of them unless in weird bartering like this are used for an iPhone that would have good FMV for depreciation and legit business use. /geek

Even if I had 350 CDs to trade in, I'd never do it. My CDs cost $30 for an album and $10-15 for a single. Not to mention, they still sell at almost retail.

I'm wondering what CDs you guys have that still fetch almost any value? And is it worth trying to unload a huge number (ok, I probably only have 450ish) piecemeal or all at once?

If I could make an exact duplicate of my car, then sell the original for $1000, I would have done that a long time ago.

This seems like the same situation. Though I wonder what the RIAA thinks about this...

Rip your CDs into 320Kbps mp3s and put them on your free iPhone4. You'd have all your music plus an iPhone that can do more than make phone calls.

It's not quite the same as listening to lossless music on a $50,000 speaker system, but hey..

I've got a few that sold for more than 150$ a year ago...And theres this kind of thing.

That would be about 144mb a CD. x350 that would be 50gb so wouldn't fit... You could do 92kb/s...and with the crappy headphones it wouldn't make much difference.

So. Youd have less than a third of your music and a phone that doesn't make phone calls.

I know, I was being sarcastic. I was replying to a guy who swears by his $50,000 speaker system making a difference in quality between various mp3 bit rates. It's a sort of inside joke.

You and I know there isn't any noticeable differences between 320 and 190 Kbps mp3s.

:)

Actually, the system is $500,000... TY you very much. And my argument at the time was still that you can't tell the difference between 320kbps and lossless on the system.
I can most certainly tell between 190kbps and 320kbps though.

190kbps still sounds fine though, especially on DAPs, in cars, etc... Where 99.99999999999% of people use them. For live shows, hell no.

A metric ton better audio quality, that's what. LOL

<And FWIW, the idiots at the time (don't remember who) naturally assumed I paid for that... I did not pay for that out of MY checkbook, no...>

It was Serpico who called you out on your speakers. I have to admit I'm also curious what speakers you have that cost that much.
