Hi guys, I'm in the market for a new card. I don't know what to do since I currently have a 8800 SLI. My monitor is 1920x1200 and I've been playing metro 2033 and starcraft beta (currently closed). I'm looking into playing the new Fallout when it comes out and that type of games.

Would you recommend me going with Nvidia to use one of the 8800 as physx? or going with ATi?

My budget is around 200 ~ 250.

And my CPU is a 920 overclocked @ 3.2Ghz with 6GB DDR3

Thanks for your input.

Which 8800 cards do you have? For 1200p you'd want either a GTX470 or 5850, which are both out of your price range, but the 5830 and GTX465 can be had for ~$250.

Ok. You'd want to get a GTX470 ($350) or a 5850 ($300) to be really considered an upgrade. Though I think you are framebuffer limited at that resolution with 512mb cards.

You don't need a nVidia card for the primary GPU anymore. They removed the restriction from their drivers so ATi users can also use a nvidia card for physx.

with that said, if you're only looking for more HP and don't have a very large budget (and don't care about DX11 features) I would look on ebay or message boards. You can probably find a used HD4870x2 or a GTX295 for close to 300. They will give you better performance than either of the dx11 mid range cards

Wrong. That was just an oversight with that particular Beta release. The WHQL still has the vendor lock. For Physx with and AMD/ATI card, he's going to have to resort to hack drivers.

I guess I'll look into that. maybe the hacked drivers is not that big of a deal. If it's just an .ini file or something like that it might be easy. I'll look into it.
