My daughter is showing some interested in games but mainly puzzle and platform stuff. She has my old work laptop, an HP nc6400, so its not high end gear she is using. Was wondering if anyone had some recomendations for games that might work ok on there. No shooters please. right now she plays stuff like mario galaxy on the wii, cooking mama on the DS, and bejewled kind of stuff online. She loves this thing called Club Penguin that is kind of like a sims type of thing. I just want to get her a game or two that isnt online only. Was looking at world of goo or braid.

I loved the Ice Age game :) it was really cute

(For the second movie that is. You play Scrat the whole time)

Super Mario World & Donkey Kong Kountry. Both on the Super Nintendo. These games are timeless and a lot of fun.

My Vote goes for Ant Bully, Shrek and also i give a thumbs up to Bee Movie game, my son likes all them and he is 9 years old.

I also was gonna say Plants Vs. Zombies. It's a cute little tower defense game where you use plants to defend your house against zombies. Hence Plants Vs. Zombies. It's on Steam. too.

Also how about just The SIms 3?

Oh, and Portal! It's sorta a shooter but not really. No gore or blood. I don't think...maybe a little.

Portal is good if she is a bit more mature and has the patience to think through some of the puzzles. Nothing that I remember in the way of blood or violence (except the turrets) but some of the humor is pretty dark.

Age of Empires II. I started when I was 8, helps train the brain in many good ways if you think about it. It was also the game that started me on path of endless computer gaming, so be careful! :D

Gymnastics or soccer. She needs to get some fresh air and exercise.

she does soccer, chorus, drama and the neighborhood pool 3 times a week. games are time limited...but summer days are long when your friends are at camp. I make her eat veggies and brush her teeth too, in case you were wondering.

When I was twelve I played the following:

Duke Nukem 3D
Quake
Doom

etc...

Sounds like a good kid.

Definitely get Braid and World of Goo. Braid will definitely get tough and you'll definitely have to walk her through some parts. World of Goo would be excellent as well, working out structures and such.
She'd definitely like portal then for it's puzzles. I guess it's kind of an FPS though.

Might want to think about getting any of the Zelda or Mario games for Wii as well. Lots of puzzles incorporated with hours of fun.

At that age I used to play GTA Vice City, FFX and Kingdom Hearts all day.

Yeah, that's what I was playing between the ages of 10 to 12, lol. Though I do have fond memories of playing Castle of Dr. Brain when I was little.

Yea, by 4-5th grade, I had played Wolfenstein, Duke Nukem, and was looking at and was playing or drooling over screenshots of Doom in the magazines when my friends frustratingly wouldn't let their nintendo power and Mario go.

By high school, when my sister was that age, she was keeping pace with me in Quake 2 Deathmatch, enough so that I remember being worried about being embarrassed by little sister...

I despise movie based games, they are always so... blah. The best games were always the independant ones, IMHO. Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Donkey Kong, Kirby, Sonic, and even the odd ones Boy and Blog, Jazz Jack Rabbit, Commander Keen, etc All unisex, grab the most modern iteration.

When I was 12 I was playing with my super nintendo and I think Quake just came out. Also had cigarettes, porno mags, and my penis... You already know which one is the most fun.
