Lian Li PC- Q08 itx case : Specification & Feature

Tried the Corsair H50 w/this case on the upper exhaust panel. Clearance issue w/the PSU. Must replace fan w/slim profile or modify mounting holes for PSU to lower it a bit.

Crap. I just ordered a H50 to go with my PC-Q08. I have this white LED 120mm fan I was planning to use w/ the top exhaust and H50.

Looks like I'm going to have to put the H50's radiator up front with the 140mm fan using a 120 to 140mm adapter. I was trying to avoid this since I want that fan blowing everything it can at the motherboard and components and not the radiator's heat back into the case.

I will have the PSU's 135mm fan and the top 120mm fan for exhaust though.

^^ .. or you can use a fan like this

@ seismicshift -- do you not have an additional problem of not being able to bend the hoses out of the PSU way?

Hose clearance is OK , directed them towards the back of the case and yes have ordered for the Scythe Slim already :)

I know I can use a slim fan, BUT I want a fan with white LEDs. I haven't found any slim 120mm fans with white LEDs.

Need more pics, do a review, show the case off! :D

what can you remove from the case etc etc

I'm seriously thinking about getting this case just for use as a home storage server. Six hard drives in this case would be awesome, and a bit cheaper price than many 6-bay NAS systems. That's just the system, not to mention you still have to purchase the hard drives.

I'm thinking of putting a Supermicro X7SPE-HF board inside of this case. The board has 6 SATA ports built in with raid support (doesn't matter since I will be using Freenas with ZFS). The board also has a x4 PCI express slot in it....so you could easily put in a hardware RAID card. The board also comes with dual Intel gigabit NICs as well as a dedicated IPMI NIC.

Most likely I will get a USB flash drive for the internal USB port and put Freenas on it so as to leave the hard drives purely for storage. Could use a USB to CF adapter though just the same.

I think with the PC-Q08, you have to place the H50 radiator up top w/ a slim fan.

You can't place the radiator up front w/ the 140mm fan because of the hard drive cage(s):

Even if you move the smaller cage up and remove the larger cage, it would block the radiator + 140mm fan:

I have two drives though. One 2.5" VelociRaptor and one 160GB Intel G2.

Has anyone seen a 140mm to 120mm fan adapter that doesn't "reduce" the area covered by the 140mm fan to the size covered by a 120mm fan?

Anyone know off hand what the max height for a CPU cooler is? I'm sort of thinking the thin 120mm fans may not push enough air to make an H50 worth it, so traditional may be the way to go. Any tips?

I'm thinking of returning my H50 and just sticking with the Thermalright AXP-140 that I already have. It' such a pain having a huge heatsink though. Makes getting to the RAM a PITA.

Has anyone tried Cooler Master's new DHT heatsink the "Vortex Plus"? It's a low-profile unit like their GeminIIs.

With my PSU's 135mm fan, the front 140mm fan and the top 120mm fan, the components should get enough airflow to keep cool.

good; just 2 questions:

- isn't possible to install a regular fan? only a slim fan?

- why you put the radiator on instead the fan? if you put the fan on top it will blow fresh air intake on the radiator

thanks

Have tried that, standard fan won't clear the PSU unless you mod something. Fan placement is my choice to reduce strain on the coolant hoses being farther rather than nearer to the CPU. I can always have a choice on which orientation my fan operates, can either be push for exhaust or pull for fresh air intake.

If I get this case I would just cut out the top 120 mesh grill and drop the pump through and mount the radiator on the top of the case and leave the 120mm inside the case. Just a thought for anyone concerned with clearance issues.

No doubt you would, however where's the fun in that. For some of us cutting up such an exquisite case is not an option. Workaround is best. :)

Well an expensive work around is get the SFX Silverstone 450 Watt PSU, it includes an ATX bracket adapter and the PSU is in mount in the center of the bracket. It would give you another 1/2 inch to work with.

Interesting, I finally put my PC-Q08A together along w/ the H50 and I was able to put a 120x25mm fan with the H50 radiator up there. My PSU is a SilverStone Strider ST75F-P.

The radiator is right up against the side of the PSU, but it does fit.

I'll put a pic. or two up later today.

Maybe... I see seismicshift has a finger guard on his fan. Does yours? Maybe that gives the extra few mm needed for clearance?

No finger-guard on mine. I have mine sucking air from outside so the side of the open side of the fan is facing up towards the mesh.

Ok, here are some blurry pics. of mine. I'm using a 120x120x25mm Enermax Cluster fan w/ the radiator. The fan is sucking air from outside and blowing it into the radiator:

I just removed both the large hard drive cage and the smaller one. The optical drive cage has a slot beneath the optical drive to mount a 2.5" hard drive. I put my 160GB Intel G2 there.

My 2.5" VelociRaptor is sitting on the bottom of the case on top of some 3M double-sided foam tape.

Overall, the install process w/ the PC-Q08 was a PITA compared to the SilverStone SG03 and SG05. LianLi needs to learn how to properly attach side panels. The 5 small screws holding in the side panels are annoying and begin to look ugly after screwing and unscrewing them a number of times. Also, you need to remember to remove the 5.25" drive cage and install the optical drive before mounting the motherboard and placing that side panel back in. I mistakenly mounted the motherboard first and put its side panel back on AND mounted my H50 then noticed that the screws for loosening the 5.25" drive bay are along the top edge of the case (and covered up by the side panels once they're installed).

Heh, I did not know that.

Grrr, I'm liking this case more and more. I wish it were in-stock (in black) and cheaper.

With my radiator and 120mm fan all squished together right up against the side of the PSU, should I have that 120mm fan sucking air into the case (and blowing at) the radiator? Or should I turn it around and have it blow air out of the case?

"It's Mega Maid, sir. She's gone from suck, to blow."

Air into the case would give lower CPU temperatures.

Air blowing out of the case would give lower case temperatures.

Personally I would prefer lower case temperatures IF the CPU temperatures are still reasonable.

I understand that, but have you seen the picture of my setup? There's almost no space b/w the 120mm fan + radiator and the side of the PSU.

With that in mind, does it even matter which way the fan is blowing?
