Look over the last week or so.
[H] vs EVGA

They may be putting up higher PPD right now than us but the trend favors us and more loss on their end. Compare numbers and how much we've dropped (roughly 200k) vs. how much they've dropped (over 1mil).

We may eventually get overtaken, but their own complacency is making their goal stretch farther away.

FOLD ON BROTHERS AND SISTERS!

yeah i saw the over take date went from 3.2 months to 4 months a couple days ago.. wonder if they are being hurt more by the lack of bigadv WU's then we are since theres so many of us just running quad cores and A3 WU's compared to them that are probably primarily running bigadv WU's..

I thought GPU clients were their bread and butter? If so, this slow down on their end would definately make sense as it is getting a bit warm now.

It's really hard to determine who is producing how much of what kind of WUs unless one works for Stanford. There are many people on their team running -bigadv. They definitely started off as a GPU-dominant team, no question, now I'm not very sure. The heat is not helping anyone, including us. I have to make adjustments to my farm because of the heat this weekend (lots of EUEs), and I'm in Canada. Hate to think how you people further south have to manage...

shhhhhh dont poke that fat lazy bear!! ;)

Hey Boo Boo, want to go after some pick nick baskets?

We also have to remember we will get Tiger back in about 2 months.

Keep ramping, keep adding new members to the [H]orde, keep on folding!

We have in the works 2 more give away boxen. A bunch of people are helping, and it's great.

I'll get this one taken care of and get the other started up! I thinking similar format

Yup, and we got lassiterb back a couple of days ago. As of now he's the #2 producer, that's fairly significant to us. As soon as he came back, we instantly shot up over the 4 month mark. Everyone and every little bit helps.

Well, Canada can get just as hot or hotter than many parts of the US. The difference is that many of our more southern states also deal with staggering humidity in the summer. What you stated is exactly why i'm going to be content with my 3.46ghz overclock at least until summer is over. It may not be as high as i'd like, but at least I know this is absolutely rock stable. My house hit 82 degrees F today and my i7 930 still managed to stay around 67 C in my new case.

This is why I love my basement. Keeps everything cool. First year I got back into folding and I had all the systems in my study.... that didn't last but a week during summer. The AC couldn't keep up.

I have everything in the basement but some basements are much cooler than others. Mine has a lot of air access with the upper floor, and it isn't that many feet below ground level to begin with.

yea my basement still gets warm with 3 folding rigs in it

I just wonder if things will change much when GPU3 comes out. You've got to think there are a lot of Fermi GPUs over in the other camp...

Do not get me started on the heat. At the moment it's a nice cool 87F in my room. Yes, I said nice and cool. The temp in this room was 98F earlier today. Although I didn't want to do it yet, I turned the a/c on (after getting a new filter for it). My intention had been to wait until sometime in June to turn on the a/c. I can usually handle up to mid-80s without much trouble, even with humidity, but once it hits 90 and is going to stay that warm or warmer, I have to turn on the a/c.

I do have to give my machines credit. There wasn't a single problem with them. The CPUs were definitely warmer than I liked sitting around 70-75C, but they didn't even hiccup. Keep in mind, I have three Q6600s within about a 6 foot space in my rather overcrowded room.

I run my A/C probably 300 days out of the year. Gotta keep my house at cool 70f

Chimp Challenge. Now that it's done, EVGA's PPD went back down. Since [H] didn't participate, it never had a PPD spike to begin with.

Huh. Just going by my 1 rig in my bedroom the room is at 23C. Outside at the moment it's 13C.

I'm working on it. Trying to find more technology to assimilate into the collective.

I wonder if the Borg had as much trouble starting out.. But then again their budget was probably larger, lol.

well my ambient temperature year round is from 82 - 90 f . so summer not really going to change anything for me.

Near 90f here every day this week...like nitro, our ac runs the majority of the year (maybe about 250-275 days for us). Can't believe it's going to be this hot this week and it ain't even summer yet.

I'm loving the cooler temps down my way too. When I was up in Sacramento for a Civil War reenactment 5/19, it was 80 something that day and then it went down to 70 ish the next.

My window unit has been running for a while now in my computer room as it gets really hot up there. That was why I put my folding unit in a spare bedroom that functions as a storage room as the window unit can't keep up as it is. Can't get anything more powerful as the circuit won't be able to handle it.

I guess today is the day that the central air unit is going to finally come on. I don't mind heat one bit up to the mid 80's, but I really frickin hate humidity. It is bad when you take a shower, and 2 hours later your hair feels all matted again.

For now all I can do is leave a "classic" client on while I'm working and then turn on my GPU client when I'm not (Precision m4400 is my only notable machine atm). Highest I've seen my temps get on my hardware is about 80 C on my GPU (IIRC), but it's not like it's going to raise the temperature of my house. Weather is at mid 70s to high 80s for highs all this week, but temperature in my house is usually around 68-70 when the AC is on.

Unfortunately, I can't push too many WUs because running the GPU client kills my ability to do much other than disable the client.

If my rigs were in a large room in the house then it would be a non-issue as the rest of the house stays fairly cool and is fairly open, But my bedroom is tiny and i close the door at night. Even with the central air on and a large fan the temps still get too warm in there with the i7 on overnight and cranking out the WU's. Temps on the hardware themselves dont get too out of hand but its effecting ME lol. A window unit would be a solution but that would ad quite a bit of $$ to the monthly electric bill, which, cause the house is all electric, nears $500/mo. in the summer.

Yah I love Texas but sometimes I wish I lived a little closer to the equator where temps were a little more constant year round.

You don't need to move closer to the equator, as you need to live closer to the sea. LA and Southern Florida have some of the most constant temps year round. The entire west coast of the US is also pretty constant.

Could you keep the bedroom door open at night? I just turned the central air on for the first time this year, and that room my folding rig is in stays open since it doesn't get much air from the duct vent. What about relocating the folding rig to another part of the house?

little trick especially if you have carpet in your house.. leave the door cracked open.. works wonders.. i have to do that in my house otherwise it creates a seal in my room where i could leave the window fan on full blast and it wont move any air at all.. door closed my cpu climbs up to 60C in less then 5 minutes.. door slightly open it stays at 50-52C constant.. and thats with a box fan sitting in my window running 24/7..

Good Job [H]!!!

We don't have basements in TX. Although since I am building, I would have loved to add one, but don't think that is going to happen. The heat here is starting to get bad and this summer is looking to be pretty brutal.

I think we are close on the new house and with that out of they way, I'll be in a better position to know how much I will actually have for any upgrades.

I have been giving some thought to slowing my advance a teeny bit and going with E5520's instead of X5650's. There is obviously a $1K difference between the two if I were to get 2 CPUs, but hopefully that would still allow me to hit 100K PpD with this rig. I would still be running 2 x i7 920's and a few other Intel CPUs.

Update:

EVGA overtake: 10.07.10, 9pm / 4.5 Months

we have gained back half a month since yesterday.. keep it up guys..

I expected them to slow a little when it started getting hot and video cards started overheating but they're still on the ball with sheer numbers.

Go 5530's atleast Ca, I would recomend those, a few of us here have them, and if I don't get SR2 by august then I'm going regular server board

Got my gts250 running steady 24/7 nnow - thats another 5k per day, just need to iron out some financial issues and then i'll be looking to add some moar D:)

I'm in the process of moving so my 70k ppd is not being counted. I expect to be back online in a week or so.

That is one creepy looking cat. It is even more creepy than the ugliest stray cat i've seen in my life that I have adopted out of pity. This cat gives meaning to the word ugly, and I can see why someone threw it away.

Heh, I wonder if the big bear has gone into hibernation. Either way good stuff!

from the looks of it both our stats and their stats im seeing a consistent downward trend in points over the last few days and it matches up with the new a3 bigadv WU's.. so i think there are a lot more people running bigadv WU's then we think over there and since its a graphic card/gaming community my guess is they are all running windows and are waiting for the winSMP a3 bigadv WU's to show up..

Its not just that - they also now have less than 100 active users more than us, A few weeks ago that number was 300 more active users
