Ok now that the Incredible has been out for a few weeks does anyone have any info or thoughts about what vzw's next big phone will be? I'm assuming it'll be the iphone, but if the iphone doesn't happen what do you guys think we will get? I really wouldn't mind the supersonic or evo.

Why are you assuming it will be the iPhone?

The only actual proof of the future for the iPhone leads it straight back to AT&T until 2012.

I would imagine once Verizon gets their 4G network up and running, it'll be something akin to the Evo.

Most likely it will be the Motorola Shadow.

If there will be a Verizon Evo with no 4G, I wouldn't expect it for 2-3 months or so. Droid 2 is currently looking like October.

Incredible is still hot. Android based phones look to be the big ones... VZW iPhone is now a who-cares item to me and many others.

The CEO of Verizon said that it seems that the iPhone for VZ will be a no-show for a while. They've had a CDMA version in the lab for a while, and I'm sure that darn Apple-AT&T exclusivity contract is also getting in the way.

I'd be surprised to see anything for a while. Spec-wise the EVO is the same as the Incredible except for the screen and front-facing camera.

Not really. The EVO has features that make it a much better device.

Not really. Almost the same except for what he had mentioned. Fare to explain?

The evo also has the ability to record in 720p which the Incredible does not. The EVO has a built in HDMI out which the incredible does not. The EVO has built in hotspot capability which the Incredible does not. The Evo has a built in kickstand which the incredible does not. The Evo has access to youtube HQ which the incredible does not.

So yeah, add those features to the aforementioned bigger screen, front facing camera, and oh yeah, that whole 4G thing. So yeah, spec wise, they're basically the same.

Um, actually... they're very similar, let me educate you:

The Incredible has 720p camera but is disabled to 480p in software, likely getting an update soon per rumors.

HDMI on a phone? LOL.

The Incredible has built-in hotspot capability as of Android 2.2 Froyo, or with PDAnet right now (FREE).

The Incredible CAN access YouTube High Quality, it's a menu toggle.

The bigger screen is a preference... 3.7 vs. 4.2.

4G, you mean that thing available hardly anywhere yet...

Front-facing camera, for self-portraits? LOL.

They're the same phone except for a bigger screen, and 4G, really... same internal specs and general functionality. Don't get me wrong, they're both great phones, but I think you're caught up in pre-release hype justifying your choice.

Rumors huh...

Yeah what a stupid feature, who wants to share their pictures and videos with friends?

still a kick ass feature.

Oh thanks for educating me oh wise one. But you are still wrong... They are both great phones but the EVO is still a superior device any way you look at it. Its not rocket science, go down the spec sheet, anything that is not identical is better on the EVO, period.

It sounds more like you are justifying your choice.

You've gotta pay another $10 a month for the 4g phone even if sprint doesn't have 4g within hundreds of miles(which they probably don't)

Dropped calls are another nice feature as well.

Even with a $10 fee sprint is still cheaper than VZW.

I see the verizon brainwashing machine has got to you already. I am truly sorry.

Besides baseless FUD do you have anything else to add?

I can confirm that there is no 10 dollar additional fee for unlimited data. I pre-ordered 2x Evos today with a family plan it came to a total of 129 per month period. I would upload a pic of the pre-order sheets that BB gives out on this thread but Im lazy.

my wife and I share the excitement of waiting for this super phone to launch. This will be our first smartphone :)

super excited <----- paid 168$ to ditch verizon

There is a $10 fee for evo owners, as soon as you get the Evo's activated they will add it. Its still cheaper than VZW either way.

Did no one notice this? There's plenty of evidence validating this phones existence and if what has been "confirmed" so far is true, then this will the the EVOs Verizon equivalent/successor in terms of specs. It at least has a 4.3" screen, 8 MP camera w/ 720/1080 video recording, HDMI out and a 1 GHz+ Snapdragon or OMAP CPU (OMAP preferably given how well it OCs :D). If it has a physical keyboard still, then that will give it the edge over the EVO, IMO and I will immediately trade my Droid for it. I really hope this phone is true and will be out by this fall. I also hope it's a vanilla build of Android so it gets updates faster than HTC phones due to them having to integrate Sense UI into every new update.

This fall should be a hell of a time for smartphones. There are supposed to be android phones better than the evo, windows phone 7 and iphone OS4 by then.

Yeah, and your a retail expert  fact huh? The burden of proof is on you.

Dude the burden of proof is on nobody. There is a mandatory $10 charge per line that has an evo. Do some googling and avoid making an ass of yourself next time.

Unfortunately, there's a downside to all this: customers will be paying a mandatory (as confirmed to us by Sprint reps) $10 per month "Premium Data add-on" on top of their plan

Honestly this is pretty old news to anyone that knows anything about the EVO.

Like i said before, as soon as you actually activate them you will be getting a $10 charge per line.

As for Verizon: it'll be the touch-only Droid (Droid Shadow, maybe)... but quite possibly the iPhone after that, in the fall.

Yeah... educate me...

Rumors huh...

Roll your eyes all you want, it just shows your own ignorance of the facts. Yes, a rumor... just like this phone and the HTC Shadow are right now ;).

Yeah what a stupid feature, who wants to share their pictures and videos with friends?

Ever hear of this thing called "The Internet" and "electronic mail with image file attachments"? How about TV's that take USB devices directly? HDMI on a phone... just LOL.

Yeah, Who wants bigger screens?

4.3" is rather large for a pants pocket... it wouldn't fit in most people's. Maybe if you carry a purse it's fine, but otherwise as I said it's pretty much down to preference and clothing.

4G still a kick ass feature.

By the time you can really use it there'll be better phones out... moot point.

Isnt it also for video conferencing.

Video conferencing from your phone is SO mainstream in America... in fact, everyone does it, even the kids! I've never seen someone do it in my life... good luck finding someone else to do it with you!

Oh thanks for educating me oh wise one. But you are still wrong... They are both great phones but the EVO is still a superior device any way you look at it. Its not rocket science, go down the spec sheet, anything that is not identical is better on the EVO, period.

It's not superior at all. It's the same spec-wise but with a larger, possibly unwieldy-sized screen that is preference, and other features that are of minimal importance. As I said... it's going to be an amazing phone, but don't fool yourself into thinking it trounces existing ones like the HTC Incredible.

I had the cute girl at BB that didn't know jack, she was trained in "Android" but not on "Evo" (I asked). She TOLD me and my wife that she was "pretty sure" that the 10 dollar fee had been waved by Sprint. Amist all the questioning that I was bombarding her with, she called over a "higher up", a tall young man about 28ish over to explain to me that "All I would ever pay is 129.99 plus tax. for unlimited data" And that they had known about the 10 dollar added fee "confusion" for the Evo. Now WHO THE HECK AM I SUPPOSED TO BELIEVE? The Best Buy Reps and the people who re-sell the item or the people here on the [H] Forum?

I'm sorry I doubted you guys ... I made it clear with both of the reps at BB on what I meant by unlimited data on my evo but they did have that 80% sure look on their face the whole time while we were talking. We also went to Radioshack and the Sprint store and they don't know jack either, the retail stores need to have better communication with their employees. As far as I know I could really yell at the BB personnal for selling me a contract with the wrong pricing info.

If it's on the internet, it's got to be true. Especially if it's on google.

LOL unwieldly LOL

It's not a fee tacked on for the "unlimited data", it's a $10 fee for simply owning the EVO, whether you're in a 4G market or not. You will be paying it.

Yeah, and your a retail expert  fact huh? The burden of proof is on you.

Let's see... I'm a business advocate for Sprint. Check. I've been handling the EVO for the past month. Check. I've been discussing the 4G roll-out in the northeast with the tower engineers and marketing team. Check.

There are some things I will get wrong, it happens on occasion. This, however? NOT one of them.

Dont talk about fucking facts when your source is a damned rumor. There is nothing rumor about the EVO.

Keep laughing but it is a feature that people want and does not exist on the incredible so either way its a point for the EVO. You cant just choose to pretend the feature dont exist because you dont want it...

If you carry either of these phones in your pocket than you are probably an idiot.

By the time you can really use it there'll be better phones out... moot point.

This is only true to those not in 4g areas. Tell the poeple in those areas how moot 4g is.

Just because you choose to do the fanboy thing and pretend the features dont matter does not mean thats really true. The EVO is superior to the incredible its a plain indisputable fact. You may choose to ignore certain features but that dont magically make them nonexistent.

So to break it down to the ignorant that dont get it.

Take 2 identical devices and add extra features to one of them and you have a superior device, period. Not hard to figure out.

If it's on the internet, it's got to be true. Especially if it's on google.

Its been confirmed by sprint reps to engadget, read the article i linked they have a copy of the press release in it and its there plain as day.

You are also being told this here by sprint employees.

Radio shack and best buy dont tell their employees shit and you probably went to a franchised sprint store, the guys i talked at the corporate store here in town knew about the fee.

If you carry either of these phones in your pocket than you are probably an idiot.

What the fuck am I supposed to carry it in then? A man purse? Keys go in one pocket, cell phone in the other, wallet in the back.

edit: attaching it at the hip with one of those belt clips is about as gay as the man purse. It's fucking tacky, and I cringe whenever I see it.

I don't know why people hate on 4.3 inch screens? My hd2 fits well in my pockets and my hand.

You guys are crazy i couldn't imagine just throwing it in my pocket.

You guys are crazy i couldn't imagine just throwing it in my pocket.

I do it all the time with my Pre, but I've also got a plastic cover on the top so i don't worry about scratching the screen (don't even notice it's on the phone anymore, I hate the ones that make it feel like an extra layer on the screen). I'll even throw it in the same pocket as my keys if I'm not thinking.

I beat the hell out of my phones. I've dropped my pre several times already, it's fallen out of my truck more times than I can remember (and my truck is lifted 9" on 38's, it's no small truck), and I take it with me everywhere I go - rain, dust, or shine. My Pre is still kicking strong, though the back cover doesn't look it's greatest.

They need to make a smartphone with all these sweet features and a rubberized coating like the old school Nextels. I'd buy that in a heartbeat.

Ok, so then, how do you carry YOUR phone? (just curious after all that)

In my hand. I cant imagine going anywhere that i would be on my feet for long periods and need my phone. If im going for a walk or something it stays in the car or at home. If im out and about theres always a spot for the phone. I dont need no holster or a pocket.
