Buying new setup

Tom's did a review of the Thuban recently:
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/amd-phenom-ii-x6-1090t-890fx,2613-9.html
And Anandtech:
http://www.anandtech.com/show/3674/amds-sixcore-phenom-ii-x6-1090t-1055t-reviewed/9

They both go into gaming comparison - and they compare the i7 to the thuban. In the anandtech review, they use a 920 which is clocked lower - so it'll look more like the 860 or 870 at stock speeds.

I believe in both reviews the 930 was better in gaming. Taking overclocking into account, if you have a good cooling system, this will be even more definitive. The i7 wins clock for clock and overclocks higher.

That said, the difference is not much.

Just remember more cores doesn't always mean more performance. The i7 will out perform the thubans.

From what i've seen from reviews, they all seem to agree that the i7's are faster for gaming but slower for encoding, rendering, etc. I was in the same boat and I decided to get an i7 930 last week. No regrets :)

You didn't say what you're using it for. Most games do not use all 6 cores so intel's i7 with 4 core is faster. Clock for clock the i7 is still faster than AMD Phenom II.

not much different in games. However, all around better performer is intel. I will say, AMD has a nice chip on their hands though it's in a class by itself.
