Ban the Mini-P180 and NZXT Rogue from SFF

Should references to those cases be moved to Cases and Modding?

What do you say, ban mini-P180 and NZXT Rogue posts from the Small Form Factor Forums, or get rid of the Smal Form Factor subforum alltogether?

Sorry, last choice should be Level 10

What does it matter what one considers to be SFF? Maybe their definition is different from yours, it doesn't mean they shouldn't be able to post or the forum shouldn't exist. This is a place for helping any and all people with questions, if it bothers you just simply ignore it.

I vote to lock this thread.

edit: Mini P180, more like mid size P180 lolz..

my personal opinion is that SFF shouldnt include m-ATX anyway, some desktop cases like the antec nsk 1480 are very nice and small cases, but for me SFF is all about mini-itx and shuttle, although i hate those cube-y shuttle boxes.

my m-itx server is only 4 inches high, and less then nine wide, and less then twelve deep. THAT is SFF, and if i wanted too i could fit a main rig with a quad-core in that case too (granted, most likely an low-tdp chip, but a slow-ish quad with a bulk of ram and a good ssd-boot drive is awesome)

Hell, if i can find a decent AMD mini-itx i might just do that

The other thing that gets me is people posting SFF questions over in the general Cases and Case Modding Forum.

Nice choices.

I think the SFF subforum is just about the 'spirit' of matx cases. While the rouge, Mini 180, and even the 350 are too big for my tastes, they're considered tiny boxes by many folks. Hell, I'm partially inclined to include the A05 in SFF discussion because it's so damn small for an ATX case.

Mini P180 is MATX, which I thought, fell into SFF (MATX and ITX)? Lay a MP180 on it's side and it pretty much turns into a *little large* HTC case. Not that anyone would do that with this case, but I think some of you are thinking about it the wrong way. There are definitely the same problems and difficulties in trying to 'max out' the hardware in that case with watercooling and such, than there is with a usual MATX SFF build.

But, if your talking about eliminating MATX altogether I would be fine with that. It's just until (or if) you do, I don't see how a MP180 would be exempt.

Mini P-180 is an ATX mid tower where Antec's manucturing dept. forgot to drill additional standoff holes for ATX as well as forgot to punch out additional PCI slot brackets. You can clearly see that an ATX motherboard can fit in that space. It's not small. Simple volume measurements of the case will tell you that.

I find it ironic, that with all its volume, it still has a hard time with full-length graphics cards, that true SFF cases handle with ease.

I Dont think they should be considered SFF.. That being said mATX is not really SFF either. Its mainstream. I don't have any actual proof but I bet that the majority of desktops sold in the US today use the mATX standard, not ATX. This its not really correct to call them small if there really the normal. Then ATX would be LFF or BFF (haha I said BFF).. When I think of Small Form Factor I think ITX & smaller..

mATX can be the basis for an SFF build. We can define SFF in two ways:
1. small foot print. A slim case such as this one uses mATX and has a small foot print.

2. small total volume. Then we can include cases such as Silverstone Sugo series and Lan-Gear Da Box (although these actually have somewhat large footprints).

Total volume is the most accurate measurement in my opinion.

Not only is total volume the most accurate way to measure it is the method used by the computer industry. You can pay a few thousand and see the report. And to them SFF is really smaller than the SG05 haha.

I got an article coming out on this soon.

Funny, I always thought of SFF as low, or "short". So anything that only fits low profile cards.

So ITX mATX ATX are all fine as long as the case is not tall.

that would eliminate the Lian Li PC-q07 & q08 as well as the Sugo 05, 06, & soon to be 07.. If those weren't SFF then this SFF forum would nearly cease to exist.

While I think the P180 is a retarded case and has no place anywhere, most mATX cases and boards do have some kind of limitation to them (vs. ATX duh) so... this poll is dumb.

Rename SFF to "≤ mATX Section" if you're picky about terminology.

Basically none of the mods actually read or care about this section unless a post gets reported. Finding a mod sympathetic to moving posts to the appropriate section is about as close as you will ever get. Since there is no clear definition of what a SFF is, it is kind of impossible to organize things correctly.

Just ignore the threads...

Eh, my desktop uses a mini P180. While it definately is not small, it definately is not large. You can think of it as the enthusiast SFF case.

Though I did not go that route (atm), it is great for packing a ton of SLI/XFire kickass into as small a space as possible.

They should definitely be removed and the forum renamed to "Small Form Factor Systems up to 30L Volume" or some other equivalent.

Get rid of the SFF sub forum altogether? Oh, please no!

The Cooler Master Elite 341 is much smaller and can still pack SLI/XFire. The Mini P180 is a mere inch shorter than the Antec 300 and the same width.

i just ordered my black p180. don't get me wrong...........i love the small cube cases. there just alittle to tight for me to be workin on. and the cable management in one of them can't be to nice to work with. but most of all, i want to be able to run large coolers and maybe water cooling. maybe you guys can just make a new section in the forums .

I just finished a build using a TJ08 for a customer and I read it's the same case then the 341, just more expensive.

That said. I found assembling true SFF cases like SG05 far easier than this, but maybe because I gave it a lot of thought on the parts.

The TJ08 I built had to use the 750TX PSU the customer had... and that's a lot of wires to hide in not so much space.

Also I got a Cooler Master Hyper 212 plus, and while it's working really really well, makes fitting the HDD's almost impossible, guess I'll have to rotate it or move the fan to a pull instead of a push configuration.

hm... the first computer i had was a trash80 -- THAT was SFF. After that there were towers, mid towers, large towers, all to fit more and more crap in. but as hdd's got better, total case size went down.....

Lets take a look here:
sg05
Dimensions(L x W x H) 10.87" x 8.74" x 6.93"
sg06
Dimensions(L x W x H) 11.26" x 8.66" x 6.97"
mini-p180
Dimensions(L x W x H) 17.20" x 8.30" x 17.10"
NZXT ROGUE
Dimensions(L x W x H) 16.6" x 10.9" x 14.5"
LIAN LI PC-Q07
Dimensions(L x W x H) 8.19" x 7.60" x 11.02"
Athena Power CA-1015IS25
Dimensions(L x W x H) 14.00" x 14.50" x 5.50"

Perhaps there should be some formal "also no dimension over 10 inches" sort of deal?

too bad you cant fit a 5970 in a mac-mini form factor....

Lol at some of the elitism going on here.

Ok SFF should be PIC micro processors ofc, no larger than 20 contact pads and at most 2 accessory chips and one peripheral. This includes the LCD display which needs to be no bigger than 5".

I think that if it is smaller than ATX and designed to get the most from the space and be carriable it counts. Just cause it needs to fit an 11” long 5970 doesn’t mean it’s not SFF anymore.

I think everything under 12 inches height, and 10 inches width, should be considered SFF. Everything else isn't. :D

I'd personally split the SFF forum into an mATX and and ITX forum.

For me SFF shouldn't mean 'much smaller but significantly less powerful as a result'. Most ITX builds fall into this category and are more like bulky, underpowered laptops without a screen or keyboard. For me SFF is about the challenge of cramming all the best bits from the latest full-size rig into something a third the size - something you can no longer do with cases like the SG01 and could never do with ITX cases.

Based on my personal definition, a massive swathe of the cases and systems on here would have to go to the SFF-of-yesteryear archive because they can't handle an overclocked i7. In fact one of the few cases that can without modding is Da Box. A load of others can too with mods but some have simply had their day for all but 6-year old CPUs and graphics cards.

I wouldn't like to see either of these cases 'banned' as you have suggested for a number of reasons:

- One case will always be the largest in it's class. This happens to be the Mini P180.

- As mentioned above unlike the Mini P180, most classic SFF cases are now too small to effectively house the latest CPUs and graphics cards due to heat, etc. Some may claim that that doesn't matter but then you may as well include the fit-PC, PDAs, netbooks and so on in the category if capability isn't a factor.

- The Mini P180 is a fantastic case that would be instantly overlooked by most people looking to build your average full-size behemoth if it were relegated to the standard case forum. Many SFF people might not find it there and would never end up considering it either, which would be a shame.

The Mini P180 is bigger than many non SFF cases... the only reason why it is even mentioned is because it is a m-ATX case. For example... the Antec NSK4480 is an ATX that is smaller than the Mini P180.

I think splitting by size (volume or sum of dimensions) makes most sense :)

AFAIC, any case that doesn't fit an ATX or larger mobo is SFF. Hence smaller than a standard mobo.

No vote cuz no option that reflects my choice.

That's too funny. Instead of HTPC or SFF or Desktop forums, the new forum sections will all be titled by a volume number.

SFF = Small Form Factor. All I can say. Have both the Antec P180 Mini and the Antec NSK-3480. Both cases for MATX.
