I just built a new VM on my 930 rig (home from hospital now) and fired it up. It is downloading the A3 core and running A3 WU.

I'm running ubuntu 9.04 and typing in:

./fah6 -smp -bigadv

I don't understand, unless they are sending out A3 on purpose even with the -bigadv flag on.

I have one on Ubuntu 9.04 that has pulled two straight A3's. It does happen, even with the bigadv flag in Linux.

This occurred in one of my VMs yesterday morning. It completed the A3 and then DL a -bigadv WU. It happens from time to time. Don't know the exact reasons other than a possible shortage.

they ran out of bigadv WU's.. its been like this for the last week or so where people have been getting 1 or 2 A3 WU's then getting 1 bigadv WU then 1 or 2 more A3's, etc, etc..

Ok, that is why Nexus dl-ed a -bigadv 3 hours after uploading one. It probably did an A3 in between.

I haven't logged into that box for.... well hell, I can't remember

if your running HFM and have that system linked just right click client.. view cached log file and you should be able to see what its doing..

I have a second I7 rig that just downloaded its second A3 unit after finishing a bigadv unit. The first machine did pick up another bigadv after it ran 2 A3's.

My linux Bigadv box that Kendrak helped build just downloaded an A3 unit. Booo.

I also got an A3 then back to bigadv, thay don't really hurt points that much, not as bad as an A1 or something.

I got one over the weekend but it the picked up a Big Adv

It just snagged a -bigadv WU.

Wonder if they are running thin on these and rationing them, or what?

seems that way. or else their process of putting bigadv WUs into the hopper is lagging behind the demand

There was another thread about a bigadv folder pulling a3 WUs around here somewhere

I was going to post about this too but Kendrak beat me to it. I started my bigadv back up yesterday and the first two WUs I got were A3s.

My bigadv box is choking on units. It's trying to run FahCore_a0.exe but keeps immediately crashing

One of my Q6600 boxes is working on FahCore_b4.exe!??

It's getting 285 ppd

Is this a joke?

I believe those are the single threaded work units. I had one which crashed my gaming rig, and forced me to delete and reinstall as it would freeze everytime I started it back up. Either way, I can see that you havn't had much luck either.

My bigadv box is choking on units. It's trying to run FahCore_a0.exe but keeps immediately crashing

One of my Q6600 boxes is working on FahCore_b4.exe!??

It's getting 285 ppd

Is this a joke?

If that A0 work unit keeps crashing your system, you will need to do what I did which is delete and reinstall the folding client. I just looked at your log file you posted and while I never got the error message, my client was completely frozen. As far as i'm concerned, those A0 WU's are bad news as i'm glad I wasn't the only person having problems.

The A0 & B4 are uni-processor cores, not SMP. There are other users reporting a similar issue.

I will PM the Pande group about the issue.

I guess I can shut down my rig, its been hot enough as is.

Taken from FoldingForum:

Dr Kasson:"We've tracked it down to a problem with some of the new AS logic introduced today. Hopefully we can fix it this afternoon; if not, we'll revert to the old code and then do another debugging session later"

woot woot i havent gotten them yet on the winSMP client :p

Don't push your luck, as I think everyone gets them sooner or later. My run in wasn't pretty as it forced me to reinstall my client to get me folding again. There is probably an old thread here that I started when I had this problem.

From what i've heard, they take forever when you do get them as i guess they can't take advantage of your multple cores.

I have the same thing going on right now, I shut down my SMP for a bit and just have the 2 8800gts going now

It appears I just got hit by the bug...

I guess I'll leave it up and go to bed...

The assignment Server's have a major issue right now.

Just try and ride it out the best you can for the moment.

There is nothing "we" can do from the client side.

Will update when more when information.

Yep, just got a ProtoMol WU on one of my A3 clients...

I'm so glad I'm folding bigadvs right now. Did I curse myself?

Yes.

On a plus note, it looks like the bigadv stuff is working just fine as my rig just finished a 2683 and picked up a 2681 bigadv WU.

edit: I just got back from the Stanford forums and it looks like even Linux bigadv rigs are being randomly assigned single core work units as well. Since a bigadv takes me 2.5 days, it looks like I just dodged a bullet in being assigned another bigadv!

Blah  ProtoMol :(
These things are horrendous. The least we could get is a damn A1 WU because at least those have SOME core efficiency.
These ProtoMol things barely use ANY core; what a complete and utter waste.

I got them on two of my machines....thought there was something wrong with them. Would have been nice if it wasn't the dual cpu machine that got one of them....

I just got one of the A0 core work units on my highest production machine for SMP. Damn thing won't go away no matter how many times I delete the work, queue and everything else which is deletable.

Yeah, after a few tries I stopped messing with it and the system is sitting idle.

Unfortunately, I'm thinking of getting to sleep at a decent hour for once which means that I won't be able to sit around and babysit the machine.

Yeah, after a few tries I stopped messing with it and the system is sitting idle.

I've done the same for the most part.
My q9450 won't stop getting an a0 so I've closed it and it'll sit doing nothing for awhile.
My i7-1 I finally got to grab a bigadv instead of a damn ProtoMol.
i7-2 I'm working on the oc anyway so that baby is sitting idle anyway.
Sheesh I bet my machine at work (e8400) grabbed one of these $#!t ones. [sigh]

Update - Assignment Server has been fixed

Dr Kasson - "We have had a set of assignment server problems this afternoon and evening related to an AS code update; first there was a logic error that caused clients not to get any work. The fix for this problem then caused inappropriate assignments (e.g. SMP clients being given non-SMP work units, also machines being given core types they can't handle). I just reverted the assignment server to the older version of the code; we'll debug sometime during daytime hours (when we can have several pairs of eyes on the code). In the meantime, the AS should start behaving normally in a few minutes.

Our apologies for the inconvenience."

"The code changes were more looking to the future--they allowed the AS to use more of the CPUID data so that we can do assigns in a more general and sophisticated manner. Not a full-out "best match" scheme, but it will allow us to direct CPU's with certain features to appropriate servers and (more importantly) prevent incompatible assigns. I didn't write this code change, so I'm not sure quite why it triggered the problems it did.
