I played MW2 for the first time last night, thanks to Steams free weekend, and the only thing I can say is....WTF IS UP WITH THE MAPS???

They're all like big square garbage cans. It's like the designers just said ok...here's a square now lets just randomly place big piles of rock and trash everywhere with a few paths and level changes......really?

I'll admit I like how they added prestige and kinda revamped the streak bonuses but theses maps are just horrendous.

Originally I didn't purchase this game because of lack of dedi servers but after playing it I'll admit that IWnet isn't as bad as I had imagined....still not dedis but not the end of the world; the maps however...jeebus!

That's not even the biggest issue with the maps - even more of an issue is the 100+ dark hiding/camping spots they put on each map, to cater to the console players who can't get a kill otherwise. It ruins the flow of the game, imo FPS multiplayer games should aim for 'clean' maps with as little dark/hiding spots as possible (like CS) - it allows good players to shine because of their skill and not because they decided to hide in dark spot 73 of 100.

Even if the game did support dedicated servers it still really wouldn't be embraced by the competitive scene, unless the current maps were tweaked and modified by the map making/modding community to be more competitive.

Stupid me for not running Steam more often, I missed out on a great portion of this free weekend. It's updating right now (Map Pack I guess) and I will play the hell out of it until I can't.

As far as the maps, I don't mind em. I kinda like most of them over COD4 maps.

As for dark hiding spots a good player would know how to deal with them. Either by avoiding them or otherwise.

Yep, the maps are designed to give players the giant 25 kill steaks. This makes them feel awesome without using much skill.

that’s why new players might not like this free weekend, most player are familiar with all the maps, you enter the map, you don’t won’t to hide in one spot and wait for anyone to pass by, you want to go around explore the game, so you keep getting killed without even seeing who killed you

exactly.. and if your a good play you also use them to your advantage.. but honestly what ruined the game the most besides the stupid match making system and the lag-tastic P2P multiplayer is the ability to prone and having fucked up hit boxes.. i swear to god there is not a single game that does prone hit boxes correctly and its bloody irritating!
