Like the title says  what is the best way to cool down my CPU? (I want it air until my custom LCS arrives :<... its an i7 975 Extreme Edition or w/e its called anyway I am currently looking at Thermalright IFX-14 Intel BP and the Zalman 9900 or something like that  Also I'm using http://www.thermaltakeusa.com/Product.aspx?C=1161&ID=1418#Tab0 and I have no idea if it would fit in the case (I don't mind having it open so whatever) and any ideas what temps to expect @ 4.2 or 4.3 overclocked? thanks in advance hardforum members and sorry for leeching like that !

PS: Also money is not a problem so whatever is best just paste it in here please! thanks.

If you can find one, I'd recommend you one of these, but they always seem to be out of stock...everywhere. This review though pits its against 20 other coolers you can choose from. I went with the '2nd place' cooler since first as oos.

With a cpu overcloked to 4.2Ghz, I would estimate you'll probably reach around 65-70C under load. Maybe 45 degrees idle with a good air cpu cooler.

I'd look at the Prolimatech Megashadow, the Thermalright IFX-14, whatever Noctua's top end model is now, and that's about it. Zalman's day is done.

I like the Thermalright IFX-14 Intel BP most because I can put 2x 120 mm or 2x 140 mm in there ;o maybe you can do that with the other ones aswell not sure :) so should I just order it like right now? the IFX-14

is there any point in getting the Cooler Master V10 CPU Cooler or its worse than the IFX-14 Intel BP ? and I dunno which one to get tbh :<

need to choose between these:

Thermalright IFX-14 Intel BP

Noctua NH-U12P CPU Cooler

Prolimatech Mega Shadow CPU Cooler

Thermalright CPU Ultra120 Externalreme Heatsink

The V10 can't keep up with any of the sinks you've listed above. Get the IFX-14 if you want the biggest and plan to use multiple fans. Get the Noctua if you want it to stay quiet (use their fans too -- I think it comes with one). Get the Megashadow if you want something with a better mounting system than the IFX-14 and don't want to deal with something quite so big. I wouldn't bother with the TRUE.

Honestly, if you're going custom water at some point in the near future why not just run stock with the Intel sink for now? As I understand the EE chips come with quality sinks. That thing stock will be faster than most chips OCed. I wouldn't spend the money if it were me.

Only the 980X. He's got a 975.

I do agree with you though. Why bother spending $50 on a cooler now when you're going to have a WC loop soon?

I got the Thermalright IFX-14 :) its great (keeping me cool @ 4.5) and it fits in the case (my ram is kinda big so if I get that noctua shit it wont even fit)

Each CPU is different for sure. My975 is water cooled and runs 38 deg idle and 56 deg 100% load and draws 1.25 volts. Now at 4.4 which is very stable(intel cpu stress and furmark for gpu both at 100% usage) the temps go 43 deg idle,68 deg 100% load and the voltage 1.39 to 1.40. i believe at that voltage draw running 24/7 would wear the chip unnecessarly. The temps I could live with but the voltage scares me. So see what your chip voltage draws is and decide according as to the ramifications of high voltage damage to the chip. By the way I just oc the chip with the multiplier 31X 133(4.125) as opposed to 33 X 133(4.4).
