Starcraft 2 Beta

lol, unfortunately there is no way to infest a command center in sc2. Corruptors can 'corrupt' buildings and prevent any action for 30 seconds, but thats as far as infesting buildings goes. Neural parasite is fun though :)

Is it me or did they get rid of infesting terran buildings? I know, in SC1 it was generally useless in multiplayer, except to kick your opponent while he's down, but there's something terribly horrific yet irresistible (like passing a car accident, for some) about the idea of infesting another species and mutating them into mindless drones. The new Zerg infestor unit just spits out infested marines, perhaps a viable strategy, but there's no joy in that.

I wish they explored that more.. if not in multiplayer, then maybe the singleplayer campaign.

I believe I recall reading they were removed, but infested marines and banelings kind of took the same role. Its a bit sad, but for gameplay mechanics and balance it makes far more sense.

From what Ive read on SP - its completely unlike MP...so I wouldnt be surprised at all to see thsoe kind of mechanics in the SP. =)

Crossing my fingers. I generally agree with the decision for multiplayer. I don't know anyone that's worked infested CC's into their strategy and it's sort of a dick thing to do otherwise. At least the infestor has neural parasite, just as fun as the old Dark Archon's mind control.

Thanks! Good things to know...

Whats the terran answer to void rays?

In a pinch, Marines can do rather well against voidrays. They're cheap and low-tech, and it can be difficult for rays to get charged up to full power against all the little buggers. If your micro is superior and you are moving your damaged marines back you can easily come out ahead. However, if the Protoss player has great micro they can use a cliff or a ledge to their advantage and whittle away your marine mob without a single loss, thanks to Shields.

Mass vikings are obviously good against rays, but are expensive and require you to already have starports.

Lost 3 games in a row, just to have an awesome redeeming match that lasted 52 minutes. We mined out most of the minerals in desert oasis, TvP. My god.. nukes saved me that round lol. In fact, I lost all my games today to protoss with just one win against a P. Though I'm now starting to figure out what I need and don't need in the matchup, which is helping me out a lot.

I have sadly resorted to the help menu at times to figure out the best counters to units. Luckily this is beta haha.

Haha. Yeah, I dunno, unless they recently updated that information its probably best that you ignore it. Some of the things like stalkers countering roaches, I mean, really?

Zealots countering marauders in my mind is even more hilarious. Any skilled played knows that marauders always beat zealots. Stalkers are actually a soft counter to roaches, but based on cost, they're really not.

terran vs terran

maybe its the bracket I am in, but in terran vs terran what I see used against me almost all the time at the start, without fail, is a banshee rush to snipe workers

Because of this it forces my hand to build static turrets as I would rather do that than conserve energy on my command centers for detection, until I can get out a raven, but often, even with the precautions it leads to losing a few workers. Annoying. And almost certain tactic from other terran. I never use it as I never rush. Ever. I should, there is an entire side of my gameplay that is underdeveloped, but there it is.

Go for starport viking, that will deter him from going banshees and force him to either amass a larger ground army or go vikings himself..

What's more hilarious is that the "zealots counter marauders" thing was written before concussion missiles were even a research upgrade for them.

Marauders SLAUGHTERED zealots, haha.

And yeah, stalkers are one of those "critical mass" units. Great when you've got a ton of them, not quite so great when you don't.

Zealots with charge can do quick a number on marauders with back up though. Then again, helions own zealots.

Oof. Played way more than I should have.. Mal and I had thrown a placement game to get into gold, but we got promoted to plat after a couple games :\ and now we're getting cheesed every game.

Finally worked infestors into my normal play now though, so I'm pretty stoked about that.

Would love to play this *wink wink* especially with all the new parts I ordered showing up soon ;).

Oh really, I wasn't aware, thank you for that info. Pre-order from anywhere or is it somewhere special.

wow, got placed in silver. Didn't expect that, since I suck.. Problem is I only win with toss. Rush to stalker+immortal and commence murder > win. Don't expect this to work much longer in the "real" league.

Tried terran a few times but mostly lost. Just don't know what to build, counters etc. Although the siege drop from SC1 still kicks ass I see:) I'm a bit scared of zerg, only tried against AI. Are they really "harder" to play? Toss seems to me to be by far the easiest to play, but that could also be because I don't have a good start build down for the two others. More practice is definitely needed! I'll probably be down in the Rust league soon...

The zerg play differently. The main thing is you have to make sure you get your spawn larvae spell of on your hatcheries on a regular basis or your unit production suffers. Unlike the T/P which can store and burn macro energy all at once zerg have to use it on a timer or it does them no good. The other thing with zerg it that you need to expand alot more.

Still have never received my opt-in key for this. My account settings have been updated and correct for months too. :(

head down to game stop/eb games and plunk down $5 for a pre order, they give you a beta key for it. And if you dont like it use the $5 on something else.

i just got an invite for the sc2 beta from a friend.

problem is im on a macbook pro with an 80 gig ssd so space is an issue. i already have vmware for my windows needs, but no bootcamped partition to play in. i have a 160 gig ssd on the way, but i'd rather not bootcamp since i already have my vm all set up.

i was wondering if i'll be able to d/l the mac beta when its released from battle.net?

cool, thanks. Yeah the queen microing and the faster expansion seems to be the main points for zerg success. Guess that will feel a bit different than T/P but should still be manageable. Other than that just swarming the other guy with bugs should give me a decent chance for most games:D

Didn't play much zerg in SC1 either, but dont want to get locked into one race now. I always though terran required the most micro in SC. Kinda feels similar now. Or am I off track? Crazy fast expansion for zerg also brings back some memories..

Yes you will be able to download it from your b.net account once they make it available. The mac client option is already there but is just grayed out. Blizzard is saying it will be available "soon".

can i be your friend???

Meh, If only there was a preorder here in the UK which allows me to play beta. This is torture! :(

I pre-ordered from Amazon, we'll see. I will definitely be a nascent player compared to most. I want to do the planetary fortress drop! And thor-ships,

Got my beta key from Amazon, took a day to get it, but no $5 down so it's all good. Got it installed before work, it's gonna be a long work day.

I am really terrible at this game. I was watching some vids and stuff. Just seems like too much. Too much to learn and adapt to and I don't have that kinda time anymore.

if you feel like getting rid of it, im always here

I'm most certainly impressed with the BETA. The graphics are excellent and game play is at least on par, if not better, than the original SC with expansions. AI could use a little bit of work on the toughness front but other than that I'm quite happy with it.

Blizzard only put the Very Easy computer into the beta to force people that want a good game to play each other and not against the AI. Playing vs. AI is a good way to practice build orders and warm up before laddering, but not much else.. in fact, i don't think the AI even makes more workers after the beginning.

Mac client is out

Ah nice. I have been waiting for that. Wanted to see how it did on my laptop. Downloading now.

On the AI, you have seen it do something?!? The few times I messed around with it all it did was gather, not building etc.
