Check out this guy’s homemade racing sim that incorporates the dash from a BMW into the mix for a little added realism. Thanks to Dave Rattray for bringing this one to my attention!

Awesome, I might pull a speedo cluster from a nice car in a junk yard to do this in Dirt 2 or something, hah.

Even the hazards worked! Looks like he was running on fumes the whole race though, hah.

I wonder what car he was running on that sim. My BMW dash does not perform like that when I take it to the track :(

What an awesome mod though. I love it.

ok any one wanting to do this it only works with Live for Speed as it out puts the signals needed to make it work

Nice mod but what's up with doing all that and having a 15"(?) monitor?

no no the fail is even more spectacular than that....

He's playing on a laptop....using the keyboard.....

Obviously, he gets a temporary free pass since this is probably just a test, but the win could have been so much more epic.

Ahg, my mistake, I wasn't paying close attention at the start and only watched a little bit because it quickly got repetitive.

I kinda want to set this up with the whole drivers side setup from a junk car now, actually get the pedals and dash to work with a monitor hanging from the ceiling or set up on the dashboard.

You'll have to make sure that the cluster is fully electronic and works on low voltage signals. Most older cars use tachometers that run off the high voltage spikes from the ignition coil, and don't work well at all with 5Vdc signal voltages (to do so you'd have to gut a relay for its coil to create your own spikes). Most older cars also use cable driven speedometers.

I use Arduinos and my custom boards to do funky stuff with simulators too, when the software guys are too lazy to get stuff done. Not cars though, bigger. ;)

This is BS. How's he driving, when he's got an empty tank of gas? Lies, I tell you. LIES!!!!

think of all the BMVs, Driver's Ed schools, and Police academies that would jump all over this

Maybe its not a BMW, but a Gumpert Apollo??

I patent the idea of the car hooked up to a game. I shall sue the people who make it first so I don't have to do anything but sit on my ass like the other patent squatters. :p

Live For Speed is a damn good car sim, but it is not actively developed. They have made no real progress for nearly 2 years.

They have been promising new physics for 2 years now, as well as a graphics overhaul and a new sound engine, but none of these have turned up.

I actually paid for both versions when they released them, (last one was over 2 years ago) and unless this game gets a serious upgrade, then I wont be bothering with it. ( the game you see looks exactly like it did 3 years ago! It WAS ahead of its time then (which is why I paid), but now everything else looks and plays the same or better.)
