For the last 4 hours I have been trying to setup pptpd on a debian vps from vpscrazy.com. Well no matter what I try I can no get it to connect but I can connect to itshidden.com fine. The error I was getting from a windows xp box was error 800 and error 619. If your the one who has the winning answer I will give you a free account.

Are you able to ping the vpn server?

Is the ip static or DHCP?(Ip given to you buy the VPN server)

Is their a software firewall on the debian box?

Did you open the correct port and protocol to allow them through?

I can ping the vps and telnet to pptpd.

Not sure, in the config file I tried a few things for local ip and remote ip.

No iptables or anything.

On client end I didn't open anything but itshidden works.

doubting you have a DHCP server on a vps box from a hosting company. Unless you set it up yourself. So try going into the vpn tunnel adapter settings and setting the ip manually(static) see if you can connect then.

Sorry what do you mean?

I am using the built in windows vpn but those settings didn't show up. But I just installed pptpd on my laptop and added a user to chap-secrets and it connects just fine. So it seems to be a network issue or something openvz related.

Well as an update I got the vps moved to a xen node and now I can connect just fine but no sites load.

Does anyone know how to get this working? Im able to connect fine just no sites load.

apache running?
software firewall turned on? If so are ports opened.
Are you using Ip or domain name?

Apache installed and running to make sure the dns entry resolved properly.

No software firewall that I know of is configured.

IP and vpn.domain.ca both give same result.

Its a minimal debian netinstall with pptpd, apache2, webmin with a pptpd module and ssh installed. The only config file changes are /etc/sysctl.conf to change 1 line to read
Code:
net.ipv4.ip_forward = 1
and the pptpd files are configured using webmin. Also the same config files on my laptop do the exact same thing.

Don't bother replying now, the vps company I ordered a vps from is now closing so now im out $30.

That sucks. Anyways next time if you setup apache check its config files. ;) See where the documentroot is and see if their are any files there
