Valve has announced that its new Steam Client UI Update will be released on Monday. You can still join the beta and get an early look at what’s new.

After two months in beta and over twenty updates, the Steam Client UI Update is slated to release to all Steam users this coming Monday, April 26th. We'd like to extend our thanks to all of you who've taken part in improving Steam by participating in the 2010 Steam UI Update beta. You've put the beta through its paces and provided great ideas and feedback.

Been in the beta for a few weeks. I hated the new GUI at first, but after using it for awhile, I'm liking it better than the old one.

SR

been using it since the beat came out, does take some getting used to, but i do like the new info and how it presents it.

I think it looks a lot better than the old one but christ... I can't believe that they are releasing it in its current state... Compared to the mockups on the forums of what it COULD be it just looks piss poor, especially the chat window gradients.

I'd like it 100 times better if it had a mini mode like the old one but after like 10 updates, nothing

Actually, it does -- its under View -> Small Mode or somesuch. It looks just like the old interface with just the game names. The only dislike I have about this is that instead of just resizing the window as the old interface did, its now a setting, same if you want to get back to the news or other stuff.

Been using the beta a while now no problems here. Much better interface too, don't fail to notice the view options in the upper right corner.

The beta is so much better than original client glad its coming out of beta and getting released to everyone.

Will my games still play like they used to?

Yes: I don't care

No: Prepare to Die!

Just my personal opinion, I use to to play games that's it.

I was using this for a while until a friend sent me a gift and I couldn't receive it. Had to switch back to the old version to receive my gift. Hopefully that's fixed.

I been using the beta UI for awhile now. Love it, its very well polished and laid out.

Achievements tracker is a pretty bitchin thing, it might have been there in the old UI, but it never became so evident to me.

Thinks have moved on since the hated days of Steam when it first came out - a lot of us CS players refused to go from 1.5 to CS 1.6 as the later required steam.

I tried the beta for all of a few hours. It's slow and lags out a lot.

Received a gift last night no problem. They also added the mini icons back to the mini game list they added back.

That's weird, I just got the final UI update right now and it doesn't say BETA anymore.

My clients just got updated and yes indeed the Beta is gone so I guess they released early.

If you look at it from the standpoint of the old UI. All it does is put more shit to buy in your face. I haven't seen anything "new" added feature wise other than that "recently played" mini list.

Give me my fucking mini library list(not library that fills up my whole goddamn screen) back so I don't have to have all that sale/update/news crap in my face steam.

Seems like when etailers and news sites redesign their site to be more 'hip and cool and web 2.0 and (insert buzzword here)' when in fact it was working perfectly well before. Web developers who make proposals to justify their jobs need to just go away and leave well enough alone.

Thats stupid. If everyone subscribed to that busted logic the internet would still look like it did in the win 95 days.

Theres nothing wrong with a good UI update. It makes it feel more fresh and can potentially draw in more people.

I agree. I like the new UI look. While it may not have added anything "new", it sure looks more modern and I welcome that change with open arms :).

Meh I still dont like but I am getting used to it. They seem to be working hard on it though cause steam has been updating almost every day for two weeks...

Does the new Steam client run like crap for anyone else? It feels like it was built on Flash or something.

I have been using the new UI for over a month. It's nice, however when chatting with someone when I'm not in a game, Voice chat does not work. I've tried it with 3 different people and it doesn't work. Once I get into a game it works just fine.

Also every single day I start up steam, it has an update. Annoying. :( Not sure if maybe it installed correctly or something.

There's plenty of added features:
- Custom game categories
- Overhauled download manager
- Much improved view of games under Full (?) mode
- The store just looks a lot better
- Webkit

View -> Small mode.

That's me right there. I haven't tried the new one and have no interest in it. Seems Steam is trying to be like Microsoft Windows Live. I don't want that. I don't need Steam to be an Entertainment Center or be an "Event" everytime I open it. I want something small, simple, unobtrusive, and give me total control. The teenagers can have all the other stuff.

Speak for yourselves. Steam is my only messaging program because every single one of my friends uses it, the chat system is simple and uncluttered, and shift+tab to talk to people in game instead of minimizing. When the new UI first came out it was a piece of shit, not even buggy really, just a horrid interface. They have fixed almost every single complaint I had about it. To be honest their privacy controls are still lacking SEVERELY and I must stress how god awful the privacy controls are on steam concerning the chat system. Privacy controls on Steam need a complete overhaul. There is no way to permanently block someone because there are several ways around a block to message people.

maybe a big sale to christen the new gui? spring sale deals to compare to the winter sale extravaganza?

That's not what I said was it. I said that changes for the sake of it, especially when functionality is great already, is stupid. Reference every time Newegg makes a change to their website.

I know what you said. Its stupid logic.

Keeping up with the times is a solid business model and has been for the last 2000 years. Occasionally something gets broken in the process but if we never altered shit because its functional already we would still live in the fucking middle ages.

You just think it's stupid because you assume that different than before = better. Talk about false logic.

No where did I say a website absolutely under no circumstances should ever be changed, I said that updates aren't automatically great when "when in fact it was working perfectly well before." You said things like 'Websites would still look like they did in 1995' in attempt at making my point seem rediculous but that does not follow from what I said, nor does 'we would still be living in the fucking middle ages.' I even provided some examples and we've all seen how people get upset when popular sites make changes apparently for the sake of it.

Your complaint was when they redesign to keep up with technology.

You keep trying to make it sound like i am taking you out of context but it seems like you dont even know what you are saying yourself... Your own example does not correlate with what you originally said.

That's not always true, that's like saying simplicity is inferior to complexity. One reason Google is so popular because it's still 1998.

Small mode is your friend, but it is nice to be able to do your Steam purchases from Steam now. The BETA has been running stable since it came out, today has been the first time the UI has been freezing and crashing,
