Phenom x6 for sale

Article says they are taking orders - not necessarily shipping them yet. Still, this does not sound like its going to be a paper launch on the 28th as some have suspected.

Amazon is taking preoders. $325 for the 1090T and 222 for the 1055T

Any idea if preordering from amazon would be a good idea if one is planning on getting one of these guys in the next 2 months or so? I would hate for the prices to go up in the meantime due to demand.

Pre-ordered from Amazon. If the price goes down, they do give you the lower price.

So are these the same or faster than 980x intel chips?

Not even close. These will match up against the i7 920 to i7 940. Read the dozens of threads on this topic for the reasons.

HMmmmm, i so want to place a preorder, gotta wait a few days, maybe ill be able to get it for 295 instead of 325

no they are 6 physical cores.. not 6 physical cores plus 6 virtual threads like the 980x.. so no they will not be as fast as the 980x.. why people keep asking this question i have no friggin clue.. but the 1090T should be faster then the i7 860 and 920 and maybe the 930 at stock clocks based off the half ass early benchmarks.. though i expect those cpu's to out perform it when they are overclocked and benched against the 1090T overclock..

are they faster than i5 750? are these gonna be am3 cpus?

1.) Depends. If the program/game scales well with more cores, yes by a wide margin.
2.) Yes. It's an AM3 chip that also has DDR2 compatibility so it'll also work with AM2+ boards with a BIOS update. ASUS and Gigabyte have already released new BIOS for a nice selection of boards.

If I ask a troll bait question, can i get a geek to answer?
;)

The answer appears to be yes!

anyone know if the Egg will be doing pre-orders for the 1090T?

Gigabyte updated their bios for my mobo a couple weeks ago to support six-core processors, so 1090T is definitely my next hardware upgrade. Makes me glad that I went the AM3 route when I put the system together a year ago! Just a matter of the local stores in the GTA getting them in stock long enough for me to pick one up and slap it in. Not long now. :)

So right now, I jus need CPU+MB+RAM for a system upgrade.. problem is, I can't decide between the 1090T and the i7 route. I just want something that'll do Crossfire @ x16/x16 as I already own 2 5770 Vapor-X's. In reality, all i'll really save is $100. If the 1090T is $325, then its pretty much the same price as a 930. I was planning on getting the Crosshair III Formula if I go AMD, or the P6TD Deluxe if I go Intel, but I dunno, what do you guys think?

Edit: Sorry, The reason for the $100 savings would be that a Crosshair board is what.. around $250 compared to a P6TD Deluxe?

That is all.

The Intel will be faster right now, but the trade off is in heat and lots of it.

Thanks for getting back to me so soon. :)

So, if I'm planning to overclock (I just purchased a Noctua NH-U12P for cheap), and wanted to get the best performance, surely the i7 is the way to go, right? Can't Phenom's overclock just a few hundred MHz compared to Intels? and a 930 @ 3.8-4.2 gigs should be as good as a 980X... In theory?

AMD chips can hit high, no one really know the 24/7 OCs for the hexa cores

btw- the Crosshair III is a great board, and $200 not $250.......

Your right. It is $200 now. I just don't see why people are so excited for a hex-core that barely out performs a 920. I was already thinking of going AMD, don't get me wrong: I even purchased a 4GB Kit of Mushkin Redline 996805's. (That I've now heard won't run at those timings on qn AMD system) Now I'm not too sure what to go with.

There's a handful of people at XS that already have the 1055T and they are overclocking very well. It's way too early to say how much if any benefit the 1090T will have over the 1055T as far as highest stable clock. One thing is certain, being able to manipulate the core clock multiplier upwards instead of the HT clock will make it easier to find a speed that is both stable in x6 and Turbo situations. By manipulating the HT they are also raising the Turbo margin by a fair degree. BIOS support is spotty and some people don't have the ability to turn Turbo off at the moment which is sure to change with time. It is unknown whether we'll later be able to drop the Turbo multiplier (make it 1.5x or 2x for example).

the Crosshair III has been $200 since last July(almost a year now) that I know of, probably a bit further..

also, I wouldn't base any assumptions on reviews that have been shown....all of what we have seen have unknown testing methods, the testing of the 1055T was done on a 32 bit OS, in which we all know AMDs do not perform as well on as they do on 64 bit software

Alright, I checked pricing at work and it should be about $259-ish CDN when released. Also looking at this pic of the Crosshair IV Extreme, do you think i'd be able to fit a Noctua NH-U12P SE2 on it? I mean, ever screenshot I can find has people with that cooler with intel boards. But the HSF supports AM3, it's just that.. looking at the board, the socket looks too close to the ram slots. Think that'll be a problem?

One Last Thing.

I purchased Mushkin Redline 996805 Memory for this build (1600MHz, 6-8-6-24 timings) and it *says* on the website that it's "Engineered for Socket 1156" but what do you guys think? Think I'll have a prob getting those timings & that frequency on the Crosshair IV Formula or Extreme?

you shouldnt have an issue getting the timing

also, no worries on the cooler, you have low profile ram(IE no mass cooler like Dominator or Reaper ram), so worst case the fan sits on top of the ram sticks, wont affect cooling.....

Fair enough. So, if you had to choose between the Formula or Extreme for overclocking, but the max amount of cards you'll add to the system is (3) 5770's... what board would you go with?

Provantage has taken the X6 1090T off their site....Amazon still has it

Amazon is shipping the 1055T. I ordered one today, will be arriving tomorrow.

I know your ordering the 1055T and getting it tomorrow, but do you think it's a good idea to pass up on the 1090T? and another thing, do you think it's even worth it at $324? Also, what board are you gonna use and are you overclocking it?

i think the 1090T is worth it at 325...wish it was at MSRP of 295, but thats not too much of a difference, as i will be using those cores immediately....in my Crosshair III

is the 1090T shipping(waiting on a check or two so i can have some cash in my spending accounts :p )

I haven't received shipping notification yet from Amazon and pre-ordered it on 4/15.

If you Google AMD 1090t it shows up at ZZF for $299 shipped. Clicking takes you to their home page however. Still nice to know they (maybe) aren't planning on gouging.

ive checked ZZF several times, they had it up a week ago, then it went down(much like Provantage).....im hopeing the Egg gets it for a decent price

I got the 1055T because I didn't have the extra $100 to spend. I'm going to be putting it in a foxconn destroyer MB, hopefully it will work.

Hello there,

Did you have any luck getting it to work in your Foxconn Destroyer?

Cheers
