New A3 Project - 6040

That is the exact result I am seeing as well.
I don't know why some are getting lower PPD on bigger units.

I'm seeing it on all four Q6600s. One is 3.2, another is 3.4 and the other two are 3.6. Every one of them has gotten the 6040s and 6041s and they all see a drop in PPD. I do see somewhat better PPD with the 6041s than I do with the 6040s but the 6041s still have a drop compared to the regular A3s.

This has nothing to do with the GPU client either. I've shut off the 8600GT on one system and the PPD didn't change at all. I shut off the 8800GT on my main system and saw maybe a 100PPD increase when I did that. I actually see larger PPD jumps when killing the GPU client while processing the regular A3s.

I'm getting a slight PPD boost on my E5200 also .. looks to be about a 10% increase.

I had a post over on the Stanford forums about Thuban and -bigadv yesterday and got a response that you guys might want to see. This was a reply from Bruce over there. It does sound like they will be bringing over some of the stuff like -bigadv to the Windows platform

We do know that the bigadv will be converted from the a2 core (Linux or MacOS) to the a3 core but we don't know when that will happen. For people who run WIndows, a VM running Linux has been required if you want to run bigadv because it required core a2. It's reasonable to assume that the VM and Linux will no longer be required once the bigadv can run with the Windows a3 core, but until we see that happening, we'll just have to surmise. I don't know how long it will take you to configure the i7, but I wouldn't rush into VM/Linux as long as you can run FahCore_a3 in your native OS. Remember that 8 virtual cores of i7 will be faster than 4 real cores of an X4 so the base PPD will be faster AND the bonuses will be bigger. (I have no predictions for how the X6 will compare to the i7 or about overclocking either one.)

So he basically said nothing we didn't already know.
