HP ZR24w

Ditto :D Can't wait.

You can't move your screen up and down and have it stay there? Mine seems have the spring in the stand calibrated such that it will stay at any height you move the screen to. It also locks in the lowest position with a release button on the back. I wonder if all the stands are not the same.

Ah. You're right, it does stay half way. I only played with the vertical adjustment on the stand before i mounted the actual screen. I guess the weight of the screen prevents the spring from pushing it all the way up to the top.

Nice.

Any more input regarding TEXT quality?

I'm still using an old 19inch Dell monitor with an LG IPS panel in it. Is this going to be a downgrade in terms of TEXT quality?

Somebody with a Killawatt Meter please do some power consumption readings...

Text quality is excellent with the default sharpness setting (4 if I remember right). 5 and the letters have a halo around them. 1-3 and the text is a bit too soft.

If using Windows, you might also want to adjust the ClearType Tuner to a bit more softer setting. If you set letters to as crisp and black as possible the excess contrast gets a bit tiring.

You will have to drop brightness and contrast quite a bit too. Like already noted many times in this thread the default brightness is insane.

i finally took the plunge after 5 days or so of 90 brightness and 80 contrast on this monitor. I've got brightness down to 40 and i don't feel quite so blind anymore. i realized i getting headaches from squinting so much.

I am using 26 Brightness and 78 Contrast atm, haven't done any fine-tuning though but just fast setting to something that looked pleasing enough :) I would love to hear what people that have used hardware calibrators run so I could compare it to what I run from eye only calibration.

Me too. ^
This monitor is great, got it yesterday. It's a bit too bright, but the colors are excellent. No ghosting nor lag that I could detect in games, a bit choppy with 1080p videos though, but it could be my imagination.

Turning the brightness way down is a must unless you wanna burn your eyes out of your skull imo ;D

Hello

I've had this monitor going on a week now and so far I have to say I am pleased with the monitor so far, no dead pixel out of the box. I know folks have been reporting minor issue with the custom scaling, I've started to notice a uniformity issue with a all white back ground. To the upper left hand side I am noticing a bluish tint color and to the lower right I getting a dull fade reddish color. I am not sure if this is the same noticeable problem that plagued the 2475w but if I look hard enough and close I do notice it. This is my first monitor is 8 yrs, my first IPS on top of that.. I really like this monitor but I want to make sure I don't have jacked up monitor or at least find out if this is the norm with IPS monitors. If anyone has any feed back about this, please let me know what I should do .Does anyone have the technical support line, just in case I decide to get a replacement.

Is the best monitor in this price range out there for eyestrain? Why or why not.

I *only* am looking at this monitor for less eyestrain...

Disabling DCC/CI in the monitor's OSD could probably solve the problem too.
Yep, that did the trick for me - at least so far, after several reboots (the OSD saved settings are now NOT reverting to default). Thanks for the tip.

OK so if this function is working, then maybe that could explain why a calibrated monitor stays calibrated in games.

What do you mean by close ? Does it show at 50cm (1.5ft) ?

Because when you're close to a big screen like this, the corners are at a quite big angle, so some shifting is to be expected (even if it's much less than a TN).

Due to the fact that all subpixels are in the same order be it on the left or on the right of the screen, at a sharp angle you would see more of one color on one side, and another on the other side, that could explain what you see.

So you are saying this normal and there is nothing wrong with the monitor? I might have thought this was having similar problems to the 2475w. I sit about 5 ft away from the monitor and I just notice a two tone colorization from the top left and the lower right. Its noticeable on the white back grounds.

OK so if this function is working, then maybe that could explain why a calibrated monitor stays calibrated in games.

Kulith: that's buy.com. They do charge you sales tax but I'm not sure if you buy off ebay...

Sharpness setting? Are you using VGA?

So does that mean the price of this monitor is not going to stay sub $400 after this month? I thought retail price on the monitor was $425?

Well...I gave in...costcentral had it this morning for $390 w/ free shipping...

I ordered mine late last night when it was $398 w/ $17 shipping. Just called and got my order changed to the new price because my order hadn't processed (shipoped) yet. Kevin Bickel is one cool dude. He saved me $27 and was really nice about it. As it stands now I would definately buy again from Cost Central. Here's hoping the rest of this transaction goes as well.

Thank you to everyone for all the great information. I am considering the ZR24w to sit side by side (landscape and sometimes portrait) with the older HP LP2475w. Does anyone have this setup? Can anyone provide me with information on how the two monitors would look together? Are the bezels the same size, are the colors and screens too different that they would be irritating, distracting, etc.

Thank you.

I'm buying one tonight for my photography business as the dual T260HD's are junk since you can't calibrate correctly since it doesn't have RGB color adjustment.

There is definitely minor color shifting with my zr24w, to the left and upper corner. That part of the monitor has 9300k cool look. The right half to lower side of the monitor has the
5000k Warm look. This is the best I can explain, I need to know if this normal? or do I need to get a replacement. I am sitting three and half feet away from the monitor. It a very suttle but I do notice it.

Incidentally, I'm seeing the exact same thing. I am actually in the process of getting an exchange, but given that this is an LG panel, eh, it may not get much better than this.

Thanks for the response, what # did you call for the replacement?

I didn't, actually. I used the online Small Business Support Center thingy to submit my case and now they're going to have a local engineer give me a call sometime tomorrow to setup an exchange.

Also, I recall someone else in the thread getting an exchange for uniformity issues. Did the replacement monitor resolve the issue for you?

Do you have the link where you submitted your case? This thread is already too long to go back and look.

I may just be blind, but on a white screen I don't notice any color shifts at all.. But I don't really know exactly what I'm looking for either as I haven't had a monitor with a tinting problem before. At least there isn't any overly noticable tinting that I can see but as I said I could just be missing it (I don't have any camera good enough to take a picture that could show it either)

The white glow effect bothers me a bit more then I expected though, it feels like it's "shiny" and reflecting or something even if I turn all lights off in the room but obviously this is the white glow effect, might be that I sit a bit too close or something, but tbh I can live with it since besides that I have found no problems, the colors on everything else is so vibrant and awesome (coming from a TN monitor...) so I'm happy with mine :)

Has anyone got around to testing this screen out with some Blu-Ray/HD and normal DVD movies yet, because i`m wondering what the quality is like when waching films on it???

Thanks for responding.

seems fine, i guess. i watched terminator salvation on blu ray on this. first time ive ever seen an hd movie though, so i dont have anything to compare it to.

I would probably not call it a great monitor for watching movies on, well unless you sit a fair bit back from it because of the white glow, I found that on dark stuff it really messes the picture up.. but if you move back a little bit it gets massively better.

My primary goals with this monitor is gaming and programming and surfing / youtube. For that I find that the monitor is great. I like that it has a better layer over the screen than the u2410 that was somewhat glossy or blury if you look close.

I do however find that the black is a slight bit lacking, but usually not something I get annoyed by.

Price quality wise I find this screen really good. I did have a u2410 for some days but the tinting that one had in gaming mode was unbearable and the layer over the screen was so much better on the zr24w. I also found the u2410 to be a bit dark on the right side of the screen which also was a bit annoying, the zr24w is more alike all over which I also prefer.

Edit: For movies / tv, I have a 40" TV, so the little annoyance I have with black is thus not that big an issue.

Is the white glow on this screen is just the way the screen is or do some people have it and for other people, the screen doesn`t seem to suffer from this problem???
