Cisco continues to push forward, apple continues to create tools for cavemen, they cut out features that are standard in the industry.
Cisco is expensive, but it does its job really really well and they support them wonderfully. Other manufactures like checkpoint make good stuff, which is just as expensive if not more.
I am of two minds on Cisco. Their switches and routers I've actually grown to like..sorta. That said, I'll take an HP switch over cisco any day given the cost variance.
Their firewalls, on the other hand, I believe are unnecessarily complex. If I can avoid them, I do.
I use what works. I've got a bunch of 10gb vendors that I'm testing which embarrass the cisco nexus5k in terms of latency and price, and still have MC-LAG support.
One thing these vendors are missing: top notch support/proven track record. Makes me nervous if I find a day 1 bug on them.. not so with cisco. I've actually had someone there voluntarily recompile a fix into IOS and send it to me within 6hrs. That's fantastic support.
