I was looking for a game to play over weekend. Since I recently upgraded from 8800 GTS to Asus 5870 and I thought I could give Crysis a try.

I played Warhead 2 years ago on 8800 and it was fun but I needed to use low resolution and reduced graphics.

So, I dowloaded Warhead, set all graphics settings on maximum (Enthisiast) on 1900x1200.

Wow , it is very different experience. It is soo smooth! Finally I can play in suit set to speed mode with a shotgun without any slowdowns. Koreans just cannot react fast enough on my fast movement. I shoot them in the face, grab them, throw them into air, shoot again. Fun, fun , fun :)

Give it a try :)

PS: Snow levels are BEST looking LEVELS vs any games to date.
PPS: I must admit that train level is slow. But it is the only level that is slow with 5870.
PPPS: I have not had that much fune with recent game titles that I have with Warhead
PPPPS: This is first time in my life I do 2nd playthrough the game. It just worth it.

well ya moved up like 3gens of video cards that kinda of performance increase is to be expected.

Every time I upgrade my PC Crysis gets resurrected... for about 1 level before I get bored and quit it again :p

Yeah every time you do a cpu or gpu upgrade its kinda mandatory to re run Crysis

:D So, true.

:)

Thank you everyone for a great comments :) I've finished the game and I can say again it is very good looking game with a great story. I wish Crytec will not lower the bar with Crysis 2 although hopes are low since it will run on consoles.

Indeed, I guess I need to run Crysis 3rd time next time I upgrade since part of train level where you fight against Koreans is ~15-20 fps. However, the part when you fight with alliens is perfectly fine.

My guess is that it is not video but CPU limited on Korean part since there is plenty of things going on and CPU need to calculate a lot of physics.

Cheers,
Alexei

try playing gta4 on a 8800gts and e5200... its playable but much like the console experience. then play the same game at high res with max settings on right hardware, and you cant believe its the same game. not just looks either, gameplay gets so much more fun its crazy.

Once I get a third 5770 I'll go replay warhead. On the cusp of being able to play with very high shaders with two cards. Started playing Crysis the first time with my GTX 260 (all v.high but shaders and objects) and LOVED it until I got to the zero grav level. Mouse sensitivity was crazy high and there was no way to change it short of lowering my DPI (pain in the ass) so I quit.

You played Crysis on max settings?! Impossible...

Btw- Who still plays Crysis anyway?

5870 can play smoothly without a issue. at least under 1080p resolution..

and yes, a lot people still play Crysis, including me

I found a couple of moments I haven't seen during first play through,

minor spoilers ahead

On the snow level at the end when you come to the place where you see old factory full of alliens do not start attacing them right avay. There will be a nice scripted animation when one of the alliens will steal huge 100 tonns track over the air :)

Do not trust voice on the radio when it order you to protect something or it will be destroyed. you can have 3 hours walking around wondering on Crysis beautiful graphics and your subject to protect will still be alive. For example when you protect the frozen allien in the box on the train from other alliens I basically run away from the battle and was wondering around for 40 minutes not paying attention to alliens. And box survived and was not destroyed by alliens although they could have easily done it.

I found out that you can kill Koreans with your body on speed mode - ROAD KILL :) Just make sure that you do not hit buildings - then ROAD KILL will be given to building ;)

BTW, are there any games out there where alliens are more sofisticated then in Crysis?

Koreans are ok but there are many games where you kill people or monsters with 2 legs and 2 hands. Though aliens in Crysis just sick cool. And so well done.

You need to load up some BFBC2. :)

I've played about 40 hours in BFBC2. It's a fun game but I got bored with it now. Crysis Warhead was a nice change. Graphics is much better, Crysis has distructable buildings and trees, Crysis singleplayer is fun and BFBC2 singleplayer is meh.

Never played the single player in BF2 and same with BFBC2.

Though I've been considering playing the single player campaign so I can learn how to fly a damn chopper! I never got around to learning how to fly any aircraft in BF2 and would like to add these skills to my arsenal this time around.

There is no chopper flying mission in BFBC2 :(

I wonder if we'll ever see another Crysis moment again...

In few days I am going straight from my work toshiba tecra m9 laptop (with integrated nvidia nvs130m graphics) to asus g73jh with mobility 5870 on board.

I wasn't really gaming much because of hardware limitations, but I can only what imagine will happen now. I think I need some pills to handle the shock of modern high res gaming.

did the card make the game fun?

LOL

I have both crysis but damned if I can get more than a few hours into the game.
at least warhead is better.

Of course. imagine you play BFBC2 on crappy card. It will not be fun at all. The same with Crysis

It makes the game pretty, sadly the end level of Original Crysis tanked on a single 5870 regardless of settings. Some of the busier levels in Warhead do the same thing. Bad coding :(

Train level on Warhead is slow even if you put ALL settings to LOW with 5870. It make me think it actually might be a bad coding or scripting of this particular part.

I still need to play original Crysis with 5870. Next weekend game is choosen then :)

huh, when I play the whole game with 5870, the fps avg is around 25-30 on train level even on heavy gun fire...

the only issue with the game is the last stage of original Crysis, the dps deep down to 20 a lot while load of alien shoot the ice on the ground..

I too am replaying crysis after getting a 5870 last week. I'm having a blast! Between crysis and bc2 I'm getting back into serious pc gaming. Had steam download warhead overnight. Crysis wars is pretty cool and mechwarrior living legends is sweet! So glad I finally upgraded from my old faithful 8800gt sli pair. Is Stalker worth picking up as well?

stalker is always worth picking up. just the first one has a bit of a learning curve.

Hmm I may have to do a Crysis reinstall sometime soon. Bet there are some cool mods out there too nowadays.

How would Crysis run on i7 980x overclocked to 4ghz and 6gb ram, then 2 x 4870's in crossfire at 1920 x 1200?

At 2xAA, you can run some decent fps.
I run a Q9550 @ 3.6
HD 5850 @ 900mhz/1200mhz
Same settings, getting around 38 fps avg, some dips to 25fps fairly rarely. I would guess 43 avg fps and 28 min for you.

Still haven't played Crysis :-/ Time to add it to the never ending list.

Really? I find it hard to believe anyone still plays Crysis... I remember a month or two after its release the servers were almost dead.

Tis a shame, Crysis had a lot of multiplayer potential, but to me it wasn't fun until I upgraded to a 4870 (from an 8800GTS) and by then there was hardly anyone playing it anymore.

no, because everyone switch to Crysis Wars..

its like playing Diablo 2 original when LoD comes out, which make no sense..
