[YourNewCase] SUGO ... 5! GO!

I love this thread :)

I'm planning on putting together an i7 860 on a Zotac H55-ITX in this thing, and it looks like I'll need to use a Corsair H50 to cool it (wierd CPU socket placement).

My question is would the H50 fit with two 140mm fans and would it make any difference to temps.

From the pics above, it looks like 120mm fans almost touch the vid card on the right, but with plenty of space on the left.

For the fans themselves, I'm thinking 2x Noctua NF-P14s. I've heard Gentle Typhoons are better for rads, but I don't think they make 140mm versions of the AP-15.

Thanks in advance!

Since you can't overclock much on any of these boards, I don't know why do you need anything but the stock H50. It's just great the way it is (for temps, noise is a more subjective issue.

I don't really want to overclock at all, but I am interested in getting it as quiet as possible.

I thought perhaps larger fans would help keep things cool and quiet/er.

Rumor has it that the GTX 480 has a TDP of 250W, then it would work fine with the 450W psu,. A super powerful mini ITX :D

hi guys first post....

Just finished my latest build with the sg05 and the following

i5 750
dfi mini itx board (can remember the name)
corsair h50
4gb ddr3
ati 5770

my question is to other members with the h50 and the sg05 is,, do you set the fan as an intake or an exhaust?

pulling in from the front of the case - water cooling works best by using cool air from outside of the case rather than warm air from inside it.

you can give it a boost by putting another 120mm fan on the otherside of the rad so it runs push-pull (all fans blowing in toward your MB

does the h50 intake force you to remove the Hddrive trays? if so, where do you mount your hddrives?

Im guesing you had to remove the dvd tray/2.5 hdd mount to fit another fan in? if so where did u mount the hdd

Intake here too and set it on the bios to 60% :D

Im trying to get it as quiet as possible without frying my cpu, i did some testing last nigh and settled on 51 % fan speed which kept my i5 750 at 35 degrees, but then my power supply got noisy!!!

you will need to remove the 3.5 inch hard drive bay, but that still leave the 2.5 inch, i plan on mounting another 2.5 drive where the dvd drive should do as i no intention of installing a dvd drive in my case

So, let me ask you all for your input:

I've finally gotten around to rebuilding both my HTPC and main workrig with the new components that were waiting in their boxes for the past few months. I'm trying to figure out the optimal cooler configuration for each unit.

The HTPC is as follows:

- Intel Core i3 530 CPU
- Zotac H55-ITX motherboard

The main rig is:

- Intel Core i7-860 CPU
- DFI MI P55-T36
- Sapphire Radeon HD5770

Each of these will be housed in a SG05 case and I have the option to use a Cooler Master GeminII S w/120mm Scythe fan in each computer, or a Thermalright AXP-140 in one. I know that either HSF would be fine, but which would be the best configuration? The AXP-140 in the HTPC (fanless?) or the GeminII S in both (although the workrig is in my bedroom and I'd like it to be quiet). Neither of these computers will likely be overclocked, so what about running the AXP-140 in the workrig (with or w/o a fan).

Thanks!

Would the stock PSU handle a GTX470?

I was going to get an HD5850 simply because of the low power usage, but it looks like the 470 only uses an extra 75w at max load.

Btw, any news on the 450w release date yet? That would really clinch the GTX470 for me (or possibly 480).

No. Cutting it waaay too close with the HD 5850 as is IMO.

"Only" extra 75W? I'd hardly call that only, especially in an SFF environment :) My entire computer only uses that much when idle. 5850 is a better choice in just about every way right now. Me, I'm still trying to save up for a MSI 5770 HAWK, hehe.

found this on the web

looks like he/she is only watercooling the gpu.

You're right, 75w is quite a bit. I think I was deluding myself because I've gone nVidia for all my computers since high school, and I'm suffering a little pre-separation anxiety.

I've done a lot of reading, and there's really no reason at all to get a GTX 470 over an HD5850, especially in a SFF setup.

Sigh, I guess no more playing games 'the way they're meant to be' anymore:p. Then again, I like the idea of going Red (up the Revolution!)

I think someone asked earlier if you can fit a 3.5" on the bottom when using the H50..the answer is no.

By the way, I see people now saying you can fit the H50 while having the 2.5" bay (and supposedly 5.25" bay too, since the former attaches to the latter) in place. Is this without any mods? Back in autumn people kept saying you had to mod screw holes etc to lower the H50 to be able to have the 5.25" bay in there at all.

As far as fitting a 3.5" HD somewhere other than the the 3.5" bay... from memory based on what I played around with the case, probably the only place to put it in properly would be along the long side where you put the GPU. Assuming it's not a wide enough GPU that would then collide with the HD. And of course you'd be blocking some air intake. Aside from that I think it should fit with a single-slot GPU, since I did have a 25mm thick 120mm fan stuck into that location for a while. But a dual-slot GPU such as the HD 5XX0-series would be too wide to allow this.

But I guess I could point out that between the 2.5" HD I had in the SG06 build, I didn't really notice much real-life performance difference compared to the 3.5" HD I use now.

All you have to do is attach the fan using zip ties and you can lower the fan about .25" or less and you are fine.

Hey 2red, did you update your rig at anypoint? It looks just like you posted on pg 13, Still. Fucking. Awesome.

Thanks for confirming that Steeeeve. I didn't ask the original question about the extra bay, but I wanted to know. Was thinking of having a fan controller in there, and modding the faceplate so it sticks through.

The SG05 really is a small small case. It is smaller than even I thought when I got it. I'm not sure how easy it would be to modify the faceplate....yikes!

Luckily you dont need to mod the whole faceplate. Silverstone ships a second lower faceplate without logo on al the SG05s so you can just mod on the one with the logo (or the one without) and have one to spare :D

Wait, what? Wow, you're right, the lower part is removable!

Thanks for telling me, I'd've had no idea otherwise. Only thing is, I didn't get a replacement with mine :(
(I wish I did get one without logo, it'd neaten the front up a bit.)

Question: What are you supposed to put in this hidden bay? It's wide, but not high enough for a 3.5" floppy drive (or 3.5" fan controller).

I wanted to put a small fan controller, but I don't think there's one made small enough to fit.

They all ship with a replacement...just email silverstone and they'll probably mail you one.

Seems to be a provision for their proprietory card reader. Like this one on their HTPC line.

You folks weren't kidding about the Gemini II being a tight fit! Here it is mounted on my Intel DH57JG with Core i3-530.

The 1156 bracket kit fit the heatsink just fine, though the backplate needed a bit of dremel action to fit due to a very poorly placed winbond chip on the back of the motherboard.

Some good looking builds here.

I'm fed up with waiting for the 450W PSU, so it's HD5850 time when my next student loan arrives... in about two weeks. :D

Oh, and another SSD. And a new monitor. And i'm finally going to shoehorn that H5O in there somewhere - it's been sat in it's box since Christmas as i've not had chance to have a go at it.

I thought about doing same thing like a month ago but didn't. Then I saw this like 5 days ago :) GTX260 that I have does everything I need to do for now so no need for HD5870. But YES! it's nice and this is why I got SG06 rather than SG05. :)

Trawling through the internet, found this:
5870 w/ slight mod to fit in sg06

Just wanted to post an update; my Intel DH57JG with Core i3-530 with running on one core @ ~10% load is measuring at 26Watts with a Kill-a-watt. Yes I know it's not that accurate but I was surprised how nice and low power it was.
