Hey Guy's

After doing much research on here and hearing all the good things on the 5870 I decided to pull the trigger. Card arrived a couple day's ago and I used driver sweeper to uninstall my old drivers as well as booted into windows safe mode. I installed the new card then installed the latest ati drivers. And I seem to be having an issue with this card and it happens quite often. I tried an older ati driver and it still seems to happen so I am thinking maybe I have a faulty card?

Just curious if this is a common issue with these card's or if there was a fix for it.

I have uploaded a picture of my desktop when it happens.

Appreciate all the help, you guys are awesome:)

That looks like a classic bad ram problem to me.

Try downclocking your RAM clock and see if the problem goes away, that would pretty much verify it has bad RAM.

Sorry im a noob:p By ram you mean the memory on the card itself? Will give it a shot and see what happens.

I would get some more opinions here, but I would think so.

I just unboxed mine, I hope I don't run into this issue, however the antistatic bag was wet with oil, the box was all dry. ....

Should be ok. The anti-static bag just failed to hold in the juicy goodness is all.

I had a very similar issue until I reinstalled a proper Win7 version( was running the RC ).

You're using XP yet you have a DX11 video card. =/

Hope the memory thing helps determine the issue. It certainly doesn't look like overheating to me.

My windows 7 arrives tomorrow actually, yea I don't think its overheating.

So far so good, going to install win7 today and see how it goes. If it still acts up im just going to rma the card.

Do you mean that after you lowered the RAM clock it is running fine? If so, that was just a diagnostic measure and not a solution. Your graphics card should operate just fine at specified clock speeds and not to need them lowered.

That is correct, it seems to be running good no problems yet. But agreed I shouldnt have to lower the clock speeds so might just rma it.

ok mine had the same issue for a while. about 3 months, and i didnt know what to relate it too. it wasnt the ram or processor etcetc. xfx's suggestions never worked and over clocking and under clocking didn't change anything

the one thing i did that changed it was i reset cmos and then set the pcie slot freq to 100 instead of leaving it on auto. when i did this, i had no more issues. i have clocks set to 900/1300 with no issues also. one thing that i like to have is msi afterburner on so i can set the fan curve and keep temps below 65C. not sure if it helps but gives me peace of mind

I'm getting some strange visual artifacts in windows now. On just one forum, not the hardocp forum, I get a weird line of squares.

I'm running WinXP 32 bit, 10.2 drivers. Gigabyte EP45 UD3P motherboard, Q6600 overclocked to 3.2, 2 gigs mushkin ram.

My experience with Bad company 2 has been horrible. Grey screens, VPU recovery, etc. I don't think the overclock is causing it, I am reading all over that everyone is getting this issue, especially with windows XP.

This card has been a piece of shit so far. I hope that upgrading to Windows 7 will alleviate these issues, but I have a feeling that it won't. I am not running eyefinity.

After reading this, and other threads like this, I'm so glad I passed on the 5870 so far. I've been tempted many times though. I'm sure for every one issue, there are 10+ good experiences but still, kinda of scary and would suck getting a nice vid card like this one and have issues.

That's why there is such a thing as returning to the store. My 5870 has been perfect.

i would absolutely RMA it. 400 dollar card with bad ram. it's only going to get worse.

I turned on vsync in game, and it seemed to help. But I bet because I said that... its gonna fuck up ... we'll see.

Edit: I'm talking about Bad Company 2, the game would always crash with VPU recovery.

My games, while running, look great. No artifacting what so ever, I think it has more to do with just Windows XP getting... old.
