100Mbps Broadband May Be Closer Than You Think

You can. Its right on their web site. They will show you, your last 3 months of use.

Not sure what you're talking about, I don't see anything on my online account for previous month's traffic activity.

Care to explain?

I think we need a fiber standard and a speed standard with a standard price. I'd say $50 for 100 Mbps and anything above that providers are free to price at their discretion. Because compared to other countries we're paying $30 for this crappy 3 Mbps down/ 768Kbps up service when most of our European buddies are getting around 50 Mbps for the same price.

I agree, I feel like the government needs to step in sort of like they did in the early 90's when they standardized cable tv.

What is the point of all this speed if we cant use it? The bottlenecks are primarily from the server side and not the client. I never came across a 5 mb/s download. Also when I hosted a server, never got good down and up speeds which makes me question the validity of them saying these rediculusly high speeds.

I routinely get blazing fast dl speeds from usenet using my uni connection. Best I ever got was ~30MB/s (not sure who was the bottleneck there).

Torrents and Steam get around 3-6MB/s. Still much better than the average connection people have at home.

Holy crap. You are paying WAY too much for your internet steve. I am paying 50 euro a month for 30mb/s internet.

Not all Comcast markets are limited by the 250GB cap. Mine does not have the 250GB cap either. Some routers will tell you your bandwidth usage though. DDWRT firmware is what I use. Last month I used (Incoming: 40132 MB / Outgoing: 20125 MB)

He said he was limited. So I assumed he was in one of those markets.

There is software too you can install on your PC's that will track it too.

I hate people who bring government into the equation for every shortcoming, as if it's going to magically whip it into shape.

I pay $59 for 10/1.5. It's not that bad. I live in a relatively populated area though, I can definitely see why prices in a sparsely populated area would be higher, and bandwidth would be less.

I can hardly see how folks think it's a good idea for the government to step in so they get cheaper and faster internet like the upgrade is free. You can be guaranteed that if subsidies are given to supplement the infrastructure, the hidden cost of your broadband will be hundreds per month for your connection. It will just be coming from borrowed money and tax dollars (unlikely tax dollars, since those just go to pay the interest on the money that we are borrowing). Just because you didn't have to pay it doesn't mean it's free and economical.

One thing to consider as well, is that fees and taxes on your service now are part of the reason it's too expensive. You can see how well those fees have delivered for you already...

There are alot of options being created everyday for viable internet at affordable prices. Within years, subsidies or no, your bandwidth will be likely be up, just like it notoriously has for years. I guess you forgot what it was like with a 1200 baud modem. We don't need to spend any of my tax dollars so you can download your mp3's and **** faster. I definitely don't want my tax dollars going there. Am I not a compassionate person?

50/20mb for $89 a month here(NY) but it still feels like it's not enough. If 100mb came around I'd take it in a heartbeat :D

I work for Comcast and we can do 140Mbps here in FL. They say it's not cost effective at the time to turn up the juice.
There aren't many people demanding those speeds, except for the people who download media/files all day.

WorldExclusive,

That's good to know the infrastructure is there. However, what everyone in FL needs is better upload speeds. Being a BrightHouse customer having 20/2 is retarded.

Although, compaired to our Aussie friends, our speeds a lightning fast. Even New Zealand has faster internet than most of Aus.

I thought mine was bad ($56 for 6 Mbps down and either 512 or 768 kbps up - I can't recall) using AT&T, but Steve's paying $100 for way less than 100 Mbps seems pretty rough.

I don't know if I'd pay $100/mo. for 100 Mbps, but if there's a mid-tier 50 Mbps plan for ~$50, I'd obviously jump on that deal.

All the download speed is useless till the upload speed catch up as well. Well unless your running a mini WAN from your house to the neighborhood. ;)

Seriously you could do higher quality video chats, faster torrents, host a server, share media faster, etc. Of course the would need to be allowed by the ISP.

I've given up on standard DSL. My 3G connection through tethering does 1000/752kbps for $30/m. The wiring in my street is so old that the best I can get is a 768kbps down line. My old address a few block down was doing 7Mbps 6 years ago. Thanks a lot AT&T.

I must not have access to this info(or it's not relevant to me), its not showing when logged into my account.

If you're running DD-WRT v24-SP1 or higher you have access to the traffic monitor to verify usage on a monthly basis. Good tool to have for Comcraptic customers.

Just as a heads up, I've gone over the 250GB cap and haven't received so much as an email saying so. Not sure if they care or not. My guess is, they want that card in their back pocket though.

I do currently use DD-WRT as I stated above, I was just curious where this was given on Comcast's website since I wasn't aware.

It's a non-issue so, lets end it here. :p

I pay about $60 a month for 15/1.5 and I am very happy Suddenlink (my ISP) has no bandwidth cap, and from what I have seen, no throttling whatsoever. Woot!

100mbit isn't too far away... I already have it.

College internets ftw? :-D

We only get 10 megabit total up/down here :(

On the bright side, it's very easy to utilize 100% of it. I do enjoy 1.1 megabytes/second downloads.

I've got a 160 mbps for 56000 won (Around $50). S.Korea has the crappiest connections in the world, I must say. They can tell me it's 160 mbps all day, but it only ever gets aroudn 10 mbps.

Oh, and they like to steal any packages of mine with "Newegg" on the box. Such a wonderful country S.Korea is. The armpit of Asia.

Ohhh yeahhh.. 1.5Mbps down 384k up.. welcome to Silicon Valley, home of High Technolo...gee? I hate AT&T. =[

I hate Charter, I really do, but they are the only way I can get the higher speeds where I live. To give them credit, they keep upping the speed for the same price. I am now up to an "official" Mbps of 30 Mbps from what used to be a 20 Mbps account. Truthfully, it also has some sort of "burst download" tech so I often get around 33Mbps downloading. Damn, its fast.

does anyone know how i can keep cox off my back? they have been giving me lots of credits. i am thinking because the manager in my building signed a fios contract, so cox wants me to stay :p. if fios is here by may i'm jumping ship but don't want them to come back with a huge ass bill on me ;). they have mailed me a printed bill that shows the discounts.

i once considered going there to teach. glad i didn't . how did you get newegg to deliver to south korea? :p

With 100mb i can blow through 1TB in a few days. I hit already 1.8TB last month with a 25mb connection. That wasn't even 24/7 either.
