what happened to the H50?

what happened to the H50?

A05 is just to small for a 2x120mm loop. Also made transporting the case a bit more tricky and also the fact that I am a lazy bastard when it comes to maintenance made go back to air.

You can barely see that front panel audio cable, and the fan clip looks fine too... Then again I'm a sucker for those A05 builds so I may be a bit biased. :p Small cases are definitely the hardest to work with tho! One of these days I'm gonna bite the bullet and pay the dumb shipping charge it'd take to get one of them down here to PR... If anything I'd say a better measured sleeve job might have more of an impact than anything else. The sleeving kinda stops way too short of the molex connectors imo, altho I rarely bother to tidy up that kinda stuff myself since I usually have somewhat larger mid-towers where I can orient the drives in the opposite direction. Very nice job regardless!

You aren't kidding about those shipping costs; just checked newegg and they want $50 to ship it to PR!

And yeah you are right about the sleeving (dunno why Antec didn't make it go all the way to the connectors). I am just way to lazy to sleeve them myself... I might look at dying the cables as some people are doing nowadays.

Yeah, Newegg shipping to PR is actually reasonable when I'm ordering several (smaller) parts, as it ends up being $30-$50 even w/a big box full of stuff (mobo, GPU, etc)... But shipping costs for cases and big stuff ends up being kinda flat, sad part is Newegg actually has some of the best and most hassle-free shipping to PR (compared to many of the other popular e-tailers). I'd kill for a Microcenter down here... Half the time I end up cross-shipping a lot of single parts to my sister (NY) or my cousin (CO).

Bought an 8 pin extension so I could route it round the back, but I've also gained an even more obvious white USB header cable for my card reader :/. They sell extensions for them but they're pretty expensive for a bit of unsleeved wire.

Is it really not long enough to use any of the cable routing holes? Or are there just too many cables back there already? It seems like it could go into the hole the 24-pin ATX cable comes out from, then back out from the hole at the bottom where a lot of other PSU leads go into (and where the front panel cables seem to come out of).

Nope, it's too short. If I route it round the back it just fits out of the bottom hole but isnt long enough to bend up to the header. The card-reader came from my old Dell Inspiron 531 so that probably explains why the cable is so short.

None of my cases ever look clean, no matter how much I work on cable management. Then again the best Cable manage case i've owned is the Antec 902

What maintenance is there with an h50? I thought the whole point of a closed loop was it's maintenance free. (Im not trying to being sarcastic if there is maintenance I should really know about it considering I have one)

the h50 in its stock form requires zero maintenance. but I modded mine to this so it required the same maintenance as a full custom loop.

My first pass at tidying up my mini P180. I mounted the drives in the lower bay backwards so that I could run the sata/power cables up between the drive bay and the front of the case. Because the bolt pattern on the bottom of the hdds isn't centered on the drive, the drives stick out over the mobo a bit. There's about 3/4 - 1" of room between the front of the drives and the and filters, so I'm planning on fabricating some adaptor plates to move the drives forward. If this goes well, I'll be modding the power harness and flipping the top drive around also.

you in uk cursed? if not, how much was that case with shipping and tax and everything to the states?

Yeah, I'm in the UK. I've heard it's quite expensive to import them into the US though. I think Fractal Designs are negotiating with Newegg etc. about selling in the US, so you might as well wait to see what that brings.

The build quality is quite good considering the price. No sharp edges or anything. I prefer the hard drives the way they are though, looks cleaner not having the SATA cables on show.

thats why you turn the drives around to hide them :p

here's mine.
i'm going to replace the video card when the new nvidia card comes out so i didn't tie stuff down yet
though there's a few wires i don't know if i can hide since the cable is a bit short

Okay so here's my rig after about 3 months on this build. Got a few things to do, like replace the top fans with ones like the back, silent!
My PC was built with silence in mind, as it is 2 feet from my lazy sleeping head. And so far its pretty silent, but fuck i hate those stock fans that i put in the top holes. still debating on a fan controller.

Sorry about the picture quality, I'm still testing the waters of the picture capabilities of my G1. Camera got stolen.

pretty good picture for a G1 .

Just got a 5870, installed Artic Cooling Twin Turbo Pro. Also switched to a modular power supply. I'm still not quite happy with the PSU though. Something's up with the case design where the PSU is in the front and it seems to be noisy despite it being highly rated on silentpcreview and having silicone grommets and a 140mm fan.

haha, yes the Zalman flower heatsink was a POS back in the AMD XP days but the Zalman fan bracket whatchamacalit has been put to use in every system I've had as an arm to mount a fan to cool the ram/chipset.
