When your laptop is stolen, normally it is a good idea to call the cops and I stress the word “normally.” Now, if the laptop in question is packed full of kiddy porn it's probably a good idea to just let it go.

A man who lost his computer in a home burglary has been arrested after the same laptop surfaced at a local pawn shop with several images of child pornography on its hard drive.

Just a hypothetical question here but....once it's stolen, doesn't that mean the thief could have put this shit on the computer? If my car gets stolen and then they find it with a dead body inside, is it automatically assumed I murdered them?

Be easy enough to time stamp the images to the time it was reported stolen. I'd wager it was many weeks prior to being stolen. :)

Nevermind, read the article and saw that he confessed. What a douchebag!

you were right the first time, I mean...dude is an idiot on top of being a pedo. I would have simply said "Gee, I have no idea how that got there...considering it was stolen and pawnewd, I would look for the people that had it for the last two weeks"

Thanksfully he was stupid...one more pedo off the streets. :D

According to the report, Lewis then told police he did own the computer in question and he did use it to download images of child pornography but he said the images were part of an investigation that he was conducting. Lewis told investigators he thought he was a Good Samaritan for his work

I like that, an "investigation" right, that i why he had kiddy porn on his computer. Not becuase he is a sick basard that needs his dick removed with acid.

He obviously didn't see the Youtube video that says you should never talk to the cops. Can he sue the pawnshop owner for possession of stolen property?

So, I don't know anything about kiddy pr0n, but with my regular pr0n I don't just keep it lying around. I just stream it. Maybe kiddy pr0n doesn't work that way, I dunno.

You doth protest too much, methinks.

Jking...

What work is he doing?

If he were sincere this could be an interesting case. The law was designed to stop pedos, not brain-dead stupid people that think they're playing Batman.

But if the arresting officers could tell he was telling a story then yeah, throw the book at him.

TYou can tell when it was d/l'd and when the last open was. If it is weeks say months apart I would figure he opened them multiple times. Shoot the fucker in the head.

Files get a creation date too, so if his shit was stolen on 2-10-2010 and there were pictures created on 9-14-2009... you catch ma drift.

Can't those dates be falsified? Even tough it is a little far fetched to claim that the thieves did falsify the dates.

I think everyone has learned a very important lesson here and I'll present it in a highly mathematical equation

"Stream > Download."

hehe jk jk...kinda...:D

so only after the pawn shop owner found kiddie porn on the laptop did he bother to check who the original owner was after it was stolen... would have just pawned it away otherwise. what a crock of shit.

Amazing that Pawn Shops even take laptops. I thought Craiglist was the perfered method of selling them.

Why wouldn't a pawn shop take a laptop? If it's working, a pawn shop will sell it.

pawn shops will take ANY THING they think the can sell any thing

I doubt you can stream it, wouldn't sites be shut down for hosting that stuff?
Yeah stream it so you never own it, but then you're missing out on the good stuff - 720p lol

Wow, and here I thought all pedophiles were white. :D

And what a lame excuse. Everybody knows the FBI are the only ones allowed to collect child porn!!

I just have to wonder, are they even going to bother investigating who stole the laptop, or why "cleaning" the hard drive involved opening files? I mean, if he was just reformatting it, there wouldn't have anything left to 'find'. I bet the guy that runs the pawn shop nicks CC numbers and sells them.

Pawn shops are scum. The only thing that gets sold to them are stolen property from petty thieves and car jackers.

Forgot that edit doesn't work on news posts, oops...

Anyway, seems like karma got to this guy, too bad he wasn't too smart. Next time maybe he should lock his things up (physically, and digitally!)

However, he got what was coming to him.

Some sure are scum. Most are not.

The chain in the article is a fairly large and reputable one (fwiw) and they do not reformat as prep for resale in all (most?) cases. Why would they? I wouldn't expect any pawn shop to have the XP/Vista/Win7 licenses floating about to even do that, nor would their customers likely wish to bother or pay the additional cost.

The only thing about this that bothers me is that the laptop was not flagged by employees as stolen earlier...like at the time of purchase. Considering the store will not recover any of the monies spent purchasing the item if it was stolen property; in fact I would think that would be step one in the transaction, done well before dicking about in somebodies hard drive.

Either way I am glad it went down as it did. One more scumbag pedo will be put away because of it.

the ol' "I was just doing an investigation into child pornography" excuse eh!? So how has that worked out so far for everyone else who has done it?

hahaha big fail of the month Now he'll be someone's little toy in the prison

At this point I don't care if the guy is a legitimate pedo or not. The problem is, is that he wasn't caught red-handed as part of a sting or a raid with his computer in his possession as having KP on it. Now, you can do a date check on the KP images and put that against when he reported his laptop stolen. That would implicate or exonerate him. Should be easy to do. If it was there before he reported it stolen, then I'd fry him. If not, I'd let him walk.
