I cant justify spending more than $70 a month on a cell phone. I rarely ever use my phone other than calling home every week and texting between me and the woman.

I wish I could get this just for the wifi capability, gps, and phone. I don't need a data plan :/

Me too for the most part =/

What I did was buy a nice HTC offa ebay and used tmobile prepaid. Only thing I can't do is GPS in the car since it runs offa data. Since I'm at school all day, I just use wifi for email anad browsing.

I think you can get in at about $70 before taxes, if it's just you. $39.99 plan + 29.99 data plan. Of course taxes and fees will add a bit.

I need some text messaging and with that plan it brings it to about $90. I wish I could get this phone w/o the data plan.

PDANet is the program I used. Demo version won't let you go on HTTPS, but regular HTTP works fine.

Would this mod void the warranty?

I'm pretty sure you have to root the phone in order to change the clockspeed. So yes, I would imagine the warranty is void, although you can likely just restore it.

Yeah, if you can set it back to factory settings, then they probably wouldn't be able to prove that you caused the phone to die if it does.

Jeez my brother just upgraded to droid on Verizon site, jeez wish I would've seen this sooner so that I could tell him.

A coworker mentioned to me that this phone along w/ the Nexus, Blackberry Bold 8700, Chocolate Touch, and a couple other phones, got rated as having the highest radiation from the phone.

That just means you won't drop calls :D.

Mine came yesterday.

I already rooted it, overclocked it, add the bash shell, added an ssh server.. this phone is the best purchase in awhile.

It's non-ionizing radiation. It is approximately one million times less energetic than visible light.

anyone install some sweet looking themes? not sure if i am digging the smoked glass all that much.

Been running mine at 1ghz since i got it acouple monthes ago also running the new ultimate droid 5.0 rom based off 2.1 its super stable and flies :)

I would do it if it weren't "don't use our bandwidth" Verizon. Stupid ass megacorporations.

how much am I looking to pay monthly if I want to surf the web on it?

I don't text btw

this is so tempting; my current phone is a piece of shit

The cost will be $30 on top of your normal plan. You can use gmail for texting. Works pretty well. I'm posting this from the droid I got from this deal. The phone is awesome. More like a small pc than a phone. Best purchse ever for me off of the hotdeals forum.

That's what I have to figure out. A way to get texting without getting wacked by Verizon $20 a month.

The droid will even notify you when you get a text via gmail if you're not in the gmail chat app or using the phone. There are some other texting apps but I haven't tried them.

I downloaded Handcent which I thought was somewhat better than the stock SMS messaging. I've also heard ChompSMS was pretty good also.

But the issue is both of them use the standard SMS through your cell carrier. I want to get away from that because it's $20 extra a month for unlimited texts, and it's essentially like paying for e-mail.

So is there a way to reset the phone to factory firmware/clock speeds if you decide to do that after overclocking?

Text messaging charges are outrageous, considering what they cost carriers. As long as people are willing to pay, the carriers will continue to gouge us. But that's a topic for another thread. :)

^ VZW's family plan offers unlimited texting for a decent price.

When I was on a solo plan, $5 offered 250 texts/mo., but that can go quickly.

I'd really like to get an Android phone, but I'm stuck in the loops of wanting to wait for the new one to come out. Am I just being a fool for considering passing this deal to wait? When really, I'd probably be happy with Droid for 2 years before reup for a new phone.

Also, how hard will it be to import my current Verizon number to this phone when ordering through Amazon? My current phone number is on my parents family plan, and I'll be getting this account in my own name.

Considering they resell for $300+ i dont see what you have to lose. Buy it now and when the new fancy thing comes out you can easily sell it.
