Winamp? Anyone still rockin' it?

Do the "other mp3 players" have global hotkeys like winamp has? It's what keeps me using it. I have zune which has a far superior interface, and yet I keep going back to winamp.

If you mean that you can control Foobar2000 from any application then I am not sure. I don't think so. I never saw the need for that really, plus even my cheap keyboard has media buttons on it.

Foobar2000 has a shit load of plugins for it though so maybe there is a way to get global hotkeys on it.

I use Winamp with winamp3 theme(basic) to watch some streams from time to time.

I use foobar for music.

I used Winamp for ten years until I switched to Windows 7 on my main rig and now I use WMP which has improved.

Still use the old version (the really simple one) just for music, but then again I'm not big on music at all.

winamp 2.91 original skin on win7
plays flac
so fast
so lightweight
love it.

One of the latest Winamp versions on my systems. Been using it for over a decade, has never just crashed on me so far, runs in the background and doesn't bother me unless I need it.

All I do is load all my music files into its library, then hit shuffle and use global hotkeys to control it. I have tried Foobar2000 as well, years ago, but found it to be lacking.

All other players are bloated pieces of junk which take up far too many resources for their own good. I would never use them unless forced to at gunpoint :)

I felt that winamp had gotten too bloated and was asking to do updates every other time I opened it.
So A few months ago I switched to foobar2000, took forever to get used to it, but is fitting my needs great now.

I've yet to find a major problem with iTunes. The Windows version could use some polishing, but overall it's a fantastic player.

I dont go for those highly technical media players.
Once I went 8 track, i never went back.

I use Foobar through two desktop monitors for critical listening and JRiver through JVC RX700's for when I want to zone out.

Winamp sure brings back some memories for me, like back in the AOL Napster days.:)

The OS X version is snappy, but the Windows version doesn't run too well for me (identical hardware).

Still using winamp? Errmm... yes, why shouldn't i be?

Yeah, indeed. I have been using Winamp for over a decade, on various systems and configurations and it is the most hassle-free piece of software I have ever encountered. It's a breath of fresh air next to all those fancy, multi-panel, spiffy GUI players who merely try to cram as many features as possible into one package.

Winamp: it just works (tm) :D

I have a copy of winamp 2.5e that I've been steadily using since way back in the day. I tried the enwer versions but they all sucked. This one was lean and mean and supported wma out of the box. I haven't installed it on the new machine yet as I've been trying to not install anything I don't absolutely need to keep it thin and reliable, but I'm sure I'll break down eventually and do it. Winamp has been good to me.

Used Winamp back in the day, but not in a long while. I tried MediaMonkey on Windows, but didn't like it very much. Honestly, I mainly use iTunes on my PC (and ALWAYS on my MacBook Pro)...it has all my Podcast catching stuff, my iPod and iPhone connect well with it. This way I can easily share my music collection with my desktop and laptop.

From all the recommendations of WMP in Windows 7 on this thread though, I'll check that out on my PC. I have yet to run into a problem with iTunes on Windows though. Sure, it can be kind of sluggish, but it's still better than the alternatives for me.

WMP on 7 really is not too bad at all. I quite like it actually. I just use foobar as I like the built in flac support and customization.

WMP has most of my library in it though for UPnP streaming and the indexing and streaming works great.

Four pages guys and not one mention of why I still have Winamp installed. Shoutcast streams.

For my music collection I tend to use WMP or WMC if I'm on the couch with the remote, but I have a couple of Shoutcast streams that I am addicted to.

You don't need winamp for shoutcast.

I used WinAmp exclusively from ~1998 until ~2005. At about that point I disovered Foobar2k and used it until I became a Zune owner in 2007. I've used the Zune software since then. Even if you don't own a Zune, give the Zune software a try. If you thought managing audio was easy in WinAmp, wait until you see the Zune software.

I _do_ keep a copy of WinAmp installed because I need to be able to write audio files out to .WAV from time to time and WinAmp has this built-in. Usually I am using it to convert SPC (SNES song files) to WAV before I encode them as MP3.

The iTunes software was enough to make me never buy an iPod again. I can't stand the way they do things. I also like the FLAC format. I use Foobar2K now.

I don't like any software's organization method. I prefer real organization the old fashioned way. Using a well thought out directory structure. It'll stand the test of time for years as you change between applications.

Winamp V2.78 for my windows partition ,Been using it since it was released at the end of 2001. Haven't bothered to upgrade because it's lightweight simple and just plain works. Ran it on all my hardware, from a 75mhz pentium laptop to my quad core. You can still download it on the oldversion site. For linux I use Amarok 2 and videos I go with VLC

winamp here. Finally bought a real pro license a couple years ago. I figured almost a decade using the free software they deserved the 15 bucks or w/e it is.

Ive tried foobar and it just doesnt cut it for me.
and Itunes can suck my balls with its 2 days of time it takes to add my library.

I've been using Winamp since version 1.0 came out in 1997 - great software! :)
