Say Hello to the I7 980X (Gulftown)

Those things are going to be beast. I doubt thuban will even be able to keep up w/ them.

will any of you guys going to buy one? i have my eyes on an i7 960 personally.

I don't think that's expected at all. But the Thuban will be far cheaper as well. AMD seems to be doing well in the mid-range, great bang for the buck and Intel is at the very top of performance, but at a cost.

I don't think the Thuban's prices have been announced yet? The i7-980X is killer at $999 but the i7-970 later this year will be better at least at $562.

I don't expect it either, i'm just saying they sound like they will be beast. It will be like the Core i7 vs a 955, but on a bigger scale. Isn't thuban planned to be ranging from $350-$500?

Thuban will be competing with the older Core 2 Quad series I believe...not going to come anywhere close to current i7 performance levels...we have to wait for AMD's Bulldozer series for that...Bulldozer will get AMD back into the high end market again and is the one Intel is worried about

With an aggressive TB (turbo boost or whatever AMD will call that) the 2.8 GHz 6 core Thuban should compete with the i7 920 and lower at both 1 or 2 threads and 3 to 6 threads. To me AMD has finally designed a chip to compete with the 920.

Amazing chip.

Hopefully Sandy Bridge will have even more potential for an affordable price.

I think im gonna get one of these bad boys tho :)
