Heads rolling at Infinity Ward

Jason West CTO for Infinity Ward has put a status update on his face book:
"Jason West is drinking. Also, unemployed"

And this, the same day Battlefield 2 is released.

Wow that's funny:D

Drinking to solve his problems eh, no wonder he was fired ;)

If it was anyone but IW/Activision I'd feel terrible for them. Now all I feel is I sincerely hope they don't find another job and help to do to another franchise what they helped to do to the CoD franchise.

Shame, I was hoping it was 'colossal prick' aka Robert Bowling up for the chop.

The man who thinks Twitter is the way to communicate game updates and liase with the public. I doubt he would answer his phone these days either

I wonder what Jason West and Vince Zampella did (if anything) Refusal to make MW3 for Bobby Kotick, who knows?

Just because you disagree with their ideas and strategies doesn't mean you should wish they never find another job. Pretty dickheadish if you ask me.

I hope they do find another job and use whatever reasons they were fired for to make themselves better.

I hope they find new jobs and everyone at IW leaves and joins them and they can make another CoD 4-esque game without Activision looking over their shoulders the entire time...

Rumour has it Jason and Vince asked Bobby Kotick to include dedicated servers in MW2

/only kidding.

VG247 is reporting that allegedly Activision hasn't payed IW royalties for MW2 yet, which is supposedly what sparked the confrontation.

Im pretty sure Activision had a lot of say in how MW2 was produced too. These dudes should land on their feet though.

Also reports that Jason West and Vince Zampella wanted to break IW away from Activision and were fired. I think this one is going to roll on and on (in the courts)

Before I decide whether or not to be pleased about this, is anyone able to tell me whether the people that got sacked were the ones responsible for the games being made shit, or if they were part of the crowd that got elbowed into making the games shit by the people with the money?

Basically, aren't IW the developers that are getting muscled around by Activision, and if this is the case why should we be pleased that they got the chop instead of the spastics that turned the franchise into Mission Impossible: First-Person Quicktime Events, Explosions, Chase Sequences, Tedious Unskippable Cinematics Detailing a Contrived and Amateurish Storyline with Shit AI THE GAME?

If they wanted to break away surely they're the good guys?

There is probably some truth in this. I hate to here about peoples misfortunes , especially in times like these. But they should have done more to insure there fans would be taken care of..

Confirmed by Kotaku:

"Zampella and Infinity Ward co-founder Jason West are now both confirmed to have left the company, as rumored yesterday, following a SEC filing from Activision investigating "breaches of contract and insubordination by two senior employees at Infinity Ward."

Wow this is gonna be big on the web, the fastest selling game in history heads get escorted out by security by Activision.

4 month's after the games's release!

"breaches of contract and insubordination by two senior employees at Infinity Ward."

Couldn't be more vague really.

The way I'm reading it is the IW heads wanted a bigger slice of the pie (considering the huge commercial success) and Activision haven't paid royalties yet which lead to the confrontation.

Invariably it comes down to money and the IP at the end of the day. Activision would do anything to secure the IP, it's worth over a billion.

Wanted to break away? There's little indication in the article that these two guys *wanted* what happened here.

Either way, Greed got IW into this situation, so I have no reason to feel sorry for what it's done to them or their company. They got "muscled" into making the game the way Activision wanted it? Did they get muscled into giving Activision control of the company? Did they get muscled into making the company a publicly traded entity in the first place?

They made their beds, and now they're lying in them.

you cant really say MW2 was shit when it made like a billion dollars....
God I hate this argument. Britney Spears and the Backstreet Boys made tons of money too, so they're some of the best music available, right? Popularity =/= quality. People, especially children, are sheep, remember that.
Yes I can. Hooray for opinions. Avatar was sub-par, I'll never watch Titanic, and the iPhone is a turd.
I despise Apple and I have an iPhone, it's a great product. This is an example of sheeple going the other way (i.e. let's all hate Apple). Interesting that we have examples of both in the same thread.

Interesting news, and it'll be even more interesting to hear the details behind it. It always sounded like the success of CoD4 got into their heads. Amazing what that does to people and their respective companies.

For real.

Or maybe I don't like the iPhone because, as far as I'm concerned, it sucks? Nah, I don't think the same thing you think, so I must be a sheeple.

Yeah, "it sucks," that's a great argument. I'm not going to derail the thread on this though.

Lol, this thread being about IW and people getting fired might have something to do with why I didn't elaborate?

Same argument from MW2 fans. "You just hate because it's popular!"

Sure. Everyone who doesn't like what you like just dislikes what you like for no good reason, because after-all, you like it, so it must be good.

Honestly though, I'm tired of hearing about IW and MW2. I played the SP campaign, it was alright, been doing other stuff since.

That's the gaming industry for you.. I learned very early in my career just how fickle it really is.

Correct me if I'm wrong but Infinity Ward is a wholly owned subsidiary of Activision and if that's the case they own the ip and their asses which would explain how they could come in and kick the top tiers out the front door.

They probably got fed up making Call of Duty games just like they did for Medal of Honor?

how about the fact that the iphone is inferior to just about every other phone on the market tech wise?

low res display
no expandable storage

that's just for starters

Pretty interesting bit from eurogamer:

The report also states that the "insubordination" IW bosses Jason West and Frank Zampella appear to have been sacked for was caused by secret discussions with rival publishers.

Well, if it's true that the devs haven't received royalties from the revenues for MW2, I'd say jumping ship might be justified if talks with Activision come up with nothing.

Buddy of mine theorizes that "insurbordination" is because they were fed up with Activision and leaked parts of the code out (hence all the glitchers/hackers in the console versions).

I mis-wrote what I meant to say.....What I meant to say there was I hope they don't find another job that would allow them to do to another franchise the same thing they did to the CoD franchise.

I'm not hoping that they never find another job....just that the next job they find doesn't involve fucking up another formerly excellent franchise.
