Not sure if the [H]ard community knows this or not, I just learned it Monday, apparently video games can no longer be sent media mail. Not everyone who works at the post office may know this, it seems as though some read their memos and some don't. But anyways, looks like they'll have to go out first class or priority mail from now on.

I think I sent them first-class anyways... still cheap... < $2 with a padded envelope or less.

Haha... I never tried sending HDD's or USB sticks but that would have been a good strategy.

I always thought it was just for books and maybe DVD's / CD's...

I get them at Dollar Tree! 3M padded 2 for $1 small and large sizes.

Also if you Download Shipping Assistant from the USPS you can print
1st class labels that have a DC on them. Cost only .19 extra when they
scan it at the post office.

I use paypal for shipping, I think they setup a discount for UPS specifically, because it's always been cheaper on there then UPS Stores / online UPS site.

But I also grabbed padded envelopes off ebay... got like 25 for $10 or something... they fit games/dvd's perfectly.

Thanks for the information about the shipping assistant.

How are they going to tell the difference between a video game and a DVD?

Even a layperson can look at the packaging and even the disc itself and tell the difference between a game and a movie. Biggest hint is that games won't say DVD Video on them, while movies will

But even if there weren't obvious ways to tell, this thread is about being in compliance with the post office rules, not ways to circumvent them.

padded envelope and shipping games = cracked smashed scratched discs no?

If you're shipping them without a case, perhaps... but who does that?

USPS can open media mail if they want and check the contents and just send it back to you if it not media mail. That is what the mail room people tell me.

I sent multiple games in cases in the same padded mailers to multiple people and none of them complained of broken stuff.
