Asrock x58 deluxe and high BCLK?

With the sig in my rig I am having trouble getting past 198 BCLK Prime95 stable.

It took me taking the NB/voltage reg heatsink off and raplacing the crummy pink junk with good compound to get past 184 BCLK. Did the same thing with the SB heatsink.

After that I could do 190 fine, but past that it would flip out.

After fiddling with voltages - basically starting over from scratch, I am now able to get 198BCLK Prime95 stable. I am now only changing one voltage setting at a time.

No matter what I try, it seems like this system will not do over 198 with any type of stability.

When using the ASROCK monitoring software, the moment it locks up, the CPU speed jumps about 20Mhz, even with HPET enabled. It doesn't jump around at all at 198 BCLK or lower.

Tried 199, 200, and 201 with the same results... maybe a dead spot that has issues?

being that it is an asrock board.. id say ya probably hit the limit of the board..

I was hoping for at least 200.... hrmmm.

It is kinda sad since I bought this board because of the excellent layout.

And kinda sad since the asrock x58 Extreme can do 230 BCLK.... grrrr. Stupid "updated" gimped board with only 2 x16 PCI-E and 1 4x PCI-E.

Anyway, from what I can tell so far, it maxes out at 194 BCLK if I want to run my RAM as close to spec as I can with my overclock. 198 BCLK is only stable if the RAM is around FFR3-1600 or below. I'd rather run my RAM at DDR3-1940 then have a few extra mhz on the processor.

interesting I have 1.9, and have not had those problems, i can get to 205 without a problem.

What RAM and speed are you running the RAM at at a 205 BCLK?

What processor multiplier can you run at a 205 BCLK?

What power supply do you have? I am kinda starting to suspect my power supply as it is a triple rail power supply... maybe not enough juice getting to the motherboard. Reason I think this is because I temporarily added another fan to help cool the RAM and stability went down the drain. Took the fan away and it was stable again.

I've had these high BCLK issues ever since I got this board so I don't think it has anything to do with the BIOS version.

Maybe I just got a bum board or a chip that doesn't like higher BCLKs.

My first guess would be that it's a board limit - although every chip/board combination is unique as well, and some can just be finicky.

If it comes down to you swapping out chips, I've got a lapped C0 I'd be willing to trade.

im on the road for work, so i cant answer fully til the weekend...on the memory settings...

the ram is OCZ, but not sure model, its triple channel.

its 20 multi.

I have a corsair 850W Psu.

Hrmm.... really starting to think it is mostly the power supply I have.

I also just realized I am not able to overclock my 4850 anymore without it crashing. Hadn't really tried overclocking the 4850 once I upgraded to i7 since it would gray screen anytime I tried to run two screens with the 4850 overclocked on my Q6600 setup.

I looked at it and it doesn't have any blown caps that I can see. I think it just has too much power being sucked from one of the rails to handle my i7 setup.

No more multiple rail power supplies for me.

Well.. just ordered a single rail PC P&C 750w PS from the egg after looking at reviews and talking to my bro who obsessed when building his i7 system.

Was thinking about a Corsair 850w but apparently they have issues with some boards that make it so you have to unplug the PS from the wall and wait a couple minutes or it won't power on sometimes.

In the end, I ended up canceling the PCP&C Unit and getting an Antec Truepower NEW TP-750 since it went on sale and had a really good review on JonnyGuru.

Just received it and got it installed (yay for the warehouse being only a few hours away - free next day shipping).

Upped the BCLK to 192 and Prime95 Large FFT is working fine.. before it would fail almost immediately.. like 2-3 seconds in.

The 3.3, 5, and 12v readings in BIOS are all higher as well... only 5v was slightly below 5v on my old PS.. like 4.99.

CPU temps are a couple degrees higher. Before it was dropping to 1.344v under load and now it is only dropping to 1.352v under load.

So it looks like it was my power supply after all.

Going to reboot and try even higher BCLK
