SemiAccurate gets some GTX480 scores

That one year warranty thing? In Europe, by law all electronics items must carry two years. Even that cheap shitty IKEA desk lamp I bought for a tenner the other day. No wonder the AIBs go red.

At least they didn't put a 2.5/3 year warranty on the original 8800 cards.

NVIDIA's big announcement this morning was that the NVIDIA GF100 'Fermi' series of video cards would be launched at PAX 2010 in Boston, Massachusetts on Friday March 26, 2010 at 6pm. They are also doing a cash raffle at PAX 2010 for a ChrisRay Special Edition PC that features dual GeForce GTX 480 GPUs in SLI. All of the proceeds from the raffle will benefit ChrisRay’s mom, who could use a helping hand. You might recall that ChrisRay recently passed away, so it is awesome that NVIDIA is supporting his family by doing this.

Hot, buggy and far too slow

He's getting better...now I'm only bothering reading 3 lines from his articles before I close the tab.

Thanks Charlie, you saved me some wasted time. ;)

Why even bother clicking the link at all? If you don't believe a word he says why give him money by clicking? Why would you even bother discussing it?

Is that comment you made supposed to be a zinger?

It's crazy how the fermi announcement have been pushed back. Now we're talking about end march, maybe april. Well, here is when the ATI 58xx series got announced and specced: http://www.hi-techhq.com/2009/09/ati-radeon-hd-5870-release-and-review/

We're talking more than six months apart from fermi! So if fermi gets announced in end of march, that means availability might be around may or june? That gives enough time to ATI to figure out an HD5890 card :p

where in the world do you get 8 months for a respin from? It can take as little as 6 weeks for a fast track or as much as 12 weeks. A1 to A2 to A3 have averaged about 8 weeks between each one. Clocks and yields have improved with each with the lowly exception being 512SP parts. End of march, Nvidia IS sending in the litho tapeout for the B1 stepping to TSMC. Before the end of May they will have those results back. IF they FIX whatever the issue is, expect 512SP parts on store shelves in volume by mid to late july. Maybe even as early as end of june. If not, they'll propably do a B2 stepping or due lmited run GTX480 till the move to 28nm can happen for teh refresh.

Wasn't the main point of the respins to increase 512sp yields? the product they want to release is the 512 part but 2 respins later and it is now a limited edition.

I honestly now believe the faster we get the product the worse it is going to be, and i don't mean worse as in 50mhz slower on the core and shader i mean that the power usage and heat produced by these chips will be staggeringly bad + 50mhz slower + any other unforseen issues. If you believe the speculation it cant run dx11 heaven benchmark without artifacts i think drivers will make or break this card - the complexity of the chip means getting performance and stability out of one game could break another.

Anyway i hope they wait and release something worthwhile and not a 5870 +5% with all the heat and power of a 5970.

wow, things are not looking good.......fermi is getting closer and closer to R800 territory

This is going to get fun...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe metal respins (A revisions) do not improve yields but only address slight performance tweaks and bugs. Silicon respins (B revisions) can help increase yields, but also takes a significant amount of time to complete (around 6 months). If the 512SP part needs a B respin which looks truer by the day, we won't see it in mass volume until the end of summer/beginning of fall of this year...

Listen to Kyle, when he said he thinks that mass volume won't hit around September, he's probably right...

I have if you had bothered to read anything I have posted. I'll take the time to shorten it up for you a bit.

GTX470 will launch as schedueled, GTX480 is going to be a PE part sadly. GTX 480 is faster than 5870 by way more than 5% faster. Clock for GTX 470 should be 400-450(This very well may have changed as it has been abut a month since I've heard from my source. He went on vaction/honeymoon and wont be back til around launch week) core with 1250-1300 shader while GTX480 will be 625-650 core and 1400-1500 shader. GTX480 will only ship in volume by mid to late summer based on whether or not B1 works or if a B2 is needed. GTX470 should be right around 5870 speed wise.

There, everything I have posted before in these forums over the last 3 weeks concerning Fermi even before his stupid fucking Fermi a broken unmakeable GPU editorial BS posting on his site.

Is it wise to disclose he's on vacation.........that may make it easy for nvidia to track your friend....

lol, everyone going crazy over fermi delays....kinda entertaining to me. :D

or one of his co-workes. as I said I wouldn't screw him, one of his asshole co-workers on the other hand. Yes I'm evil.

The RTP office is in an office building on one floor of a building that houses about 6 or 7 other businesses. Went there one afternoon to meet up with him for lunch and one of his coworkers tried to throw me out of the parking lot area, public parking not gated or private. I told him to fuck off. 10 minutes later he brought a security gaurd from the office building out. It got ugly. The coorker has seniorority over him in terms of length of employment but not position and thinks he is the god of programmers..

If you're trying not to screw your friend you're doing a pretty bad job of it by splashing all this info onto the internet.

People would not have done so in the past, but now that the market is down to two big players, the world of GPUs lives and dies with the ability of both players to release their competing products on-time.

With no competition, we have stagnation.

How far in the past are we talking? The market has been down to two big players since forever.

Lol, nice cover

haha this thread makes me lulz. It's an effin video card. Wait for the reviews. The speculation and retardation in this thread oddly reminds me of a bunch of old ladys playing bridge and arguing over gossip.
