Dell U2711

How bad the input lag on U2711?
Currently I own 2709W and 2407WFP, and the input lag on 2709W pretty noticeable comparing to 2407WFP, around 20ms.
I'm considering to buy the new 27", but the input lag thing bothers me.

I don't notice it, and i game on it.

Okay, I might have a problem with my U2711, I was cleaning the monitor screen with one of those super soft fiber towels and not pressing very hard. The screen pushes in so there is a click sound to the monitor like it's not attached correctly.

Can anyone who has a U2711 monitor check to see if it does that on yours?

I tried it on my LG 24-inch monitor and I don't get the sound or push in when I clean the monitor screen. :(

Common on bigger screens to allow room for heat expansion.

Same thing happens with Dell 3008WFP, just the way Dell likes to build its monitors. Don't worry about it, probably for heat expansion or to protect against warping etc.

Just saw this on the Dell.ca site for the u2711.

Zero Bright Pixels: Under Dell's Premium Panel Guarantee, you will receive a free panel exchange should even one bright defective pixel appear on the screen during your Limited Hardware Warranty period.

That's fantastic. I think I'm gonna get this one.

This is because with IPS when a pixel dies it ussually goes dark not bright I believe. I believe tns go bright. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

big difference to me is 2711 is wide gamut not necessarily bad depends on what you like

I agree, many people like me don't need the wider gamut but if you like the massive resolution and you don't want a used product of some years ago, you can only use a wide gamut display.

Cheers!!

Hello all,

does anyone have a link to the data sheet for this glass or for the Apple 2560 x 1440 NEC glass?

My estimated delivery date has been changed from 2/16 to 2/22 and it still shows in production. Is it normal for Dell to do this or are they having issues with the U2711?

Update 2/19: Talked to Dell this morning and they said my order is scheduled to be delivered on 2/22. Tonight Dell changed the delivery to 3/4. When I ordered, the Dell website said usually ships within 24 hours and now it says 1 - 2 weeks. Maybe their changing to an A01 version or it's the start of a panel lottery.

My u2410 had a dark pixel on every color but white and blue. There it showed up as bright red. Does that count? It better have, cause I returned it and no hassles. XD

so I dont know which monitor to buy 3008wfp or u2711 since they cost the same?
what you guys think? does anybody have both and like one over the other?

I'm essentially in the same boat; either 3007/3008 or u2711. As far as I can tell it comes down to color, resolution, and lag. I'm not too lag sensitive, but since I do watch a decent amount of movies/videos on the computer the color issue is making me lean towards the u2711.

Dell does have a lenient return policy for monitors don't they? If I don't like it it's easy to return?

but for the price of $1000 16:10 is way bigger that 16:9

I have XHD300 Gateway which is dying on me. its hard to go from 30" to 27" hmmmm

To the guys who have the 3008 and the 2711 what do you think in comparison?

I am selling my 3007 to a friend mainly to get another with multiple inputs.

I have the 2711 on order.

How do the 2711 and 3008 stack up against each other in image quality?

I have a 27''imac with this panel and the 3007wfp(original) and they are not really comparable.

The 3007 looks rough next to it in all area but black level. Grainy coating, yellow whites, bland colors.

i am looking for something that will keep up with the imac 27'' and if I could keep a 30'' that would be nice.

There's no way it's the start of a panel lottery, please don't even suggest this kind of stuff, people are anal enough as it is about their displays... there are no other 2560x1440 panels out there.

yes I exactly 2560x1600 is awesome

Well if you need a scaler like in your XHD3000 then the only choice is the Dell 3008wfp. If you can live without a scaler then there is lots of options.

The U2711 is much smaller in physical size. Look at the size comparisons on the previous pages.

Thats good to hear. I'm still keeping my order. I hope dell is using the time to address the issues covered in some of the reviews.

It could just be backordered. The 27" imac uses the same panel, so they might not be able to keep up with supply at the moment.

Yeah I agree. The high resolution is awesome. The 27-inch is physically not much bigger than the U2410 as the comparison in the FlatpanelsHD review suggests:
http://www.flatpanelshd.com/review.php?subaction=showfull&id=1265617565

The problem is unless you sit unusually close or have super vision, it is likely that you will have to turn up the DPI in windows, largely defeating the resolution advantage.

I have sharp vision and at work people look at my screen and say "Can you read that?" because I use high res and small fonts.

But on a Dell 3007 I found the pitch a little tight, if I wasn't using XP I would have turned up DPI a bit. This monitor has even tighter pitch.

I would either get a 24" U2410 for much less money or I would get a 30" with more resolution and slightly larger pitch to make use of it.

I wonder if Dell will be coming out with a U3011?

Dell never told me that the U2711 was on backorder. They just give repeated assurances that everything is progressing normally and that it is scheduled to be delivered on the specified date which keeps changing, and not bothering to email a notification of the delay. The only email I have received says it is in production and scheduled to be delivered on 2/16.

I would be amazed if it wasn't, since the monitor requires dual-link. My order has an estimated delivery date of march 8th, so if nobody replies by then I can tell you then :p

Yes, it's a dual-link cable. At least it says it is, I went straight to mini-displayport to displayport.

Yes, definitely. Using the shipped cable with my GTX 285 at 2560x1440 even as I write this.

instead of getting a Dell U2410 or U2710, wait until the new HP ISP comes out, supposed to be $425 retail! heck you can get 3 of those for just a little more than the U2711

The only thing about that is that it's not out right now and because of that nobody has any real info about it. I just went and bought the u2711 since I needed a monitor :p

Dell gave me a call today, I guess using a shipping address different from my billing address threw a flag somewhere. the CSR essentially asked me to recite him the data I had entered in the order to begin with

I just received my U2410 today and I have just a few questions for the knowledgeable folks here.

1. Where do I find the build date and REV #?
2. Where do I find the current firmware?
3. Can someone recommend how I’d test for dead pixels?

Thanks!

I believe you just pop out that slider on the left hand side of the monitor in the middle back and it will reveal s/n, model, revision, mfg date, all that good stuff.

No idea where you can download Dell monitor firmware.

Dead Pixel Tester is what I used. Easy to find in Google Searches. Go through white, red, blue, green, black and see if anything nasty stays on the screen for those.

Dell does not release furmware updates to the public for its monitors. It was a fluke that the a01 firmware for the u2410 got released into the wild.
