Here's my specs
I5-750 @ stock
4gb of Gskill Ripjaws DDR3
Sapphire HD 5850 @ stock
MSI GD 65
Antect 650 Earthwatts

I ran the Dirt 2 Bench @ 1920 x 1080 at max with 8x MSAA and I get like 35 fps max min is like 25-28. I looked up other benches with similar setups, and they get 40 ish max and 30ish minimum. Why is this?

I'm just guessing but perhaps the other systems are overclocked....Overclocking both the both CPU and GPU help your benchmark numbers considerably

Most of them were on stock though =/

A Phenom II 920 @ 2.8 with a HD 5850 @ 1920 x 1200 was getting higher frames than me. It makes no sense.

Download MSI Afterburner version 1.5 from here: http://event.msi.com/vga/afterburner/

You can look at the graphs and see if the GPU is being used to it's full potential.

Also, what drivers are you using???

You can also use Afterburner to overclock the card if you want to. It's a great utility and very simple to use.

Also.....in each system with each GPU, YMMV.

Are you absolutely sure you have your memory installed in dual-channel? I know when I messed-up and installed in single channel on my E8200 system, it cut my framerates by about %15 versus benchmarks I saw online.

The difference you are seeing is about that much. Check your boot screen to verify, or your motherboard manual.

You know, instead of trying to pick-apart suggestions from other people, you could make some suggestions yourself.

I'm posting from personal experience. My HD 4850 went from about 9000 to 11000 in 3dmark 06 with single and dual-channel memory configurations. Also, we're talking about a quad-core system here, which might be a little more bandwidth-sensitive.

Don't shoot-down a solution because it's outlandish. It will only take him 10 minutes to verify.

3dmark scores don't mean much.

3dmark scores don't mean much.

That all depends on what your using them for.

3dmark is an excellent tool for comparing changes you make in your system and what impact those changes may have on said system.

Its also a great tool for finding out where the point of diminishing returns is with an overclock...

so to just say "3dmark scores don't mean much" leads me to believe that you have no idea what what it can do.

I'm using the latest drivers.

Try backing up one notch to the 9.12............I've been reading in a number of places that the 10.1 were nothing special at all.

What drivers were the review sites using???

If you are using Windows Media Center your clocks will get locked at 400/900 with powerplay unless you reset the pc or force a clock change with amd gpu clock tool. Use amd gpu clock tool to check your clocks before and in game.

When you think about it that way, I guess you're right :)

Here's my sytem:
Antec 902 case
ASRock X58 Extreme motherboard
Intel Core i7-920 D0 @ stock
ARCTIC COOLING Freezer 7 Pro Rev.2
HIS Radeon HD 5850 1GB @ stock
A-DATA Gaming Series 4GB DDR3 1600
WD Caviar Blue 640GB hard drive
LG DVD Burner GH24NS50
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit

Ran the benchmark just for you. :) All settings max, 8xAA, VSync OFF.

Average: 44.3 FPS
Minimum: 39.2 FPS

Sounds like something's not quite right. If you have VSync on, try turning it off. You'll probably see a jump in performance. :)
