Old UPS shutsdown:( and need a more powerful UPS at a medium price. I really do not know much electricity/amps my system will draw at Full Load and not trip the breaker on the UPS.

This is my system specs

I would appreciate any ideas on what I should get. I am only looking for a 5 to 10 minutes of power so that my system will shutdown.

Cool

edit dislexia ftl UPS
whats the VA rating of the UPS you have now with whats listed imo id get a 1000VA or higher UPS

I am running a 1000VA powersupply. Everything is fine until I start playing games and the CrossFire kicks in and the damn thing beep to all hell and to no avail it will not stop until I stop the game. I am not overclocking (yet) but when both videocards are on it goes nuts. I only want a 5 minute UPS to shutdown the system. I know that this sucks.

The UPS has a 30 amp circuit and 1000VA. The only thing I can think that it doing this is that the battery maybe going bad.

What UPS do you have now? This system (no PC really) shouldn't be drawing 1000VA. Are you sure it is an overload alarm?

I am fully aware that this should not be happening. I only have my tower and monitor on the ups and my dual tuner motorola dvr cable box (it is only drawing about 1-2 amps).

2 things possible problems

1 Dead battery in UPS

2. Sensor going bad.

I know the system pulling about 8 amps at everyday tasks. and pulling between 15amps -16amps at full load. (tested with EMF metter or WTF is called that you hang around the powerwire to test the amps going through a wire).

Keep in mind that a VA is not the same as a watt. A 1400VA UPS will generally handle about 1050W. Your power supply, on the other hand, is in watts. You could go for a SmartUPS 1400 or 1500 if you want to really be sure.

Well 15-16A is clearly overloading the UPS. That's 1800W and something like 2.25KVA.

If you're referring to the OP's system, then you call that meter a "nowhere near accurate meter."

Well I forgot to blog about my Electrical Circuit. Everything is setup in a series connection which includes a electrial usage meter (trying to go green). The problem is the USP itself. The battery is actually dead and the sensors are dead 2. The new UPS will fix my problems and not waking me up at 12am and 3 am to tell me that the AVR has changed when everything is perfect.

I am patiently waiting on this new USP. CyberPower Smart App Intelligent LCD Rackmount GreenPower UPS 2000VA 1320W (rackmount suted me best for space and the look).

I know that this will serve my needs.

Plus on this circuit, I am running a HDTV, XBox 360, PS3 80GB model, and a window air conditioner just to keep the room cool enough (room has reached 50 degree C or 122 F). I also only run one of the console at a time unless crunching folding at home to do tandum with the PC. Then I just off some other electronics

You're running an air conditioner from a little consumer UPS? No wonder it's overloaded...

^This.

I've run a more power hungry rig than the OPs on a 1500VA UPS and it wasn't enough. My system was reaching in excess of 900 watts under full load. The power usage was even worse when I had dual 4870 X2's in CrossfireX. I'd routinely hit 1,100 watts or more. Currently I'm using less power due to having only a single Radeon HD 5970 in my machine. I pulled my Geforce GTX 280 OC 3-Way SLI setup and my power usage dropped off significantly.

I can also tell you this. VA ratings don't mean a whole lot when comparing UPSes. They aren't always truly equal. The actual power output of a UPS under full load varies. I've got two 1500VA units and one of them only outputs 950 watts while the other does 1,050. You won't find many UPS over 1500VA that will run off a standard 110/120v wall socket with a 15-20 AMP circuit.

When you start pulling that much power, you really should bite the bullet and run a 220/240v line, anyway. You'll get a couple percent more efficiency out of your power supplies and you'll be able to run more power without needing to run wire as thick as your arm. And you can buy this ridiculously good deal: http://cgi.ebay.com/Liebert-UPStati...ltDomain_0?hash=item563996c6ad#ht_3855wt_1165

I would but I rent the house. I don't own it. So I won't be running any new power anywhere. Eventually when I do buy my own home, I'll be doing exactly that.

Well, I fixed my problems with my power options. Well the House I live in has a 400 amp entrence with it split to 2 200 amp boxes. Since all 400 amps are not used at once. I ran a third box straight off the 400 amp box. Each and every circuit now has independant 20 amp outlets. I also found a green rack mount cyberpower UPS that fit my situation (damn thing weights over 150 lbs). This baby requires a 20 amp circuit itself. The next thing I need to do is run a 220v circuit for the next air conditioner. Damn room heats up to 85 F in 45 minutes. My system runs full bore 90 percent of the time since I full unlocked everything (voltages, timings, and stepping).

oo 400A service that's awesome. I had mine upgraded to 200 but wish I had gone for 225. The power company usually won't let you have 320 (step after 225) or 400 (crazy).
