Hey all... just fired this up and played a couple of matches. The game is using Games for Windows Live, and it has a mathmaking/lobby system. I'm usually not a big fan of matchmaking, but when it's done properly, it can be okay. Or if you can browse for servers in addition to the matchmaking (like GTA IV PC), that's okay too. Unfortunately, the matchmaking doesn't seem to work too great, and there's no server browser.

Here are some initial thoughts:

- The framerate is very obviously capped, seems like 30 FPS but I'm not sure. It's very disorienting.

- There's no text chat

- There seems to be considerable lag. I think it's because these are peer-to-peer matches. Everyone is using spray 'n pray weapons

- The game seriously limits your available weapons and plasmids in the lower ranks. As you rank up you unlock new weapons and cosmetic options for your character. At rank 2 you get the machine gun (which is required due to the lag)

- There are pretty much basic bread and butter mutliplayer modes with different names.

It really feels like the multiplayer was an afterthought in this game. They try to put it in context of the story by creating a little "prologue" where they explain that you're a consumer products tester for some weapons company... it doesn't really make sense though.

Bioshock 2 multiplayer makes no effort to play to the strengths of the PC as a platform. There are other GFWL games that do a good job adding value for the increased power and versatility that PC gaming offers, but unfortunately it seems like Bioshock 2 simply ripped the multiplayer out of the Xbox 360 version and called it a PC game. Not impressed. The single player is great though.

[edit] sorry. didn't see the other threads on Bioshock 2 :(

I liked the prologue but the multiplayer was "meh". I bought the game for the SP so I don't really care but I think they lost an opportunity.

Instead of "me too" MP they could have made it more story focused, with the objective being getting the most adam in pre-fall rapture instead of frag count or flag capturing. It may not have been great but it would have been different - like a simple play through once MMORPG.
