So I just finished backing up a few of my DVDs, opened up WMC in Vista64 and started playing one as a test. Video is fine but for some reason there is no audio at all. I can hear sounds from WMC itself (like the menu sounds) but nothing from the movie. I checked all the volume controls (those in WMC and in Windows itself) and they are all at max.

I tested the movie in VLC and it played perfectly, audio and all so I know the movie itself is not at fault. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Hmm, are they named like *.VOB? If so, try renaming to *.MPG (I believe Windows media apps have problems with .VOB - something to do with DRM routines, even if the file has no DRM...)

Devil-
I used DVD Shrink to rip them to my hard drive. Ended up with video_ts and audio_ts folders.

delvryboy-
I can give it a try tonight but since they work in VLC I didn't think it was a codec issue.

Actually, that would be a tell tale sign.

Is it because the codec is built into VLC but not WMC?

Kind of a n00b here. :p

It has something to do with WMC media splitter. For some reason it doesn't like the .VOB container. WMC has all the codecs needed to play regular DVD's. If you remux the video to .ISO or Matroska everything will play fine.

Yeah, installing the AC3 codec didn't help. What app would I use to convert the VOB's to ISO?
