FPS Freak? anyone tryed it?

Haven't tried it, but I don't see how plugin that into your controller can help you aim better. If you want to aim better play on your PC :D

And this is why everyone else thinks Americans are so retarded

It's 5th grade geometry...maybe you should go back and learn a thing or two.

Exactly.. it has been explained a few times in this thread already, learn to read to see how it can possibly help..

Thank you for proving my point.
The only thing proven here is that you're blind.

The taller the stick, the larger the range of motion at its end becomes. On a short stick, even the slightest movement translates into a lot of motion, and many people find this hard to control, especially at higher sensitivity settings. By increasing the height of the stick, you also increase the distance you have to move it to get the same ammount of motion as a short stick.

The end result? You don't have to try and control your thumbs to the nearest 1/2 millimeter, you can be precise with much larger movements.

I have to agree with him; if you still can't see how this helps, then you really are beyond hope

Was interested in these since I read about them in Gamepro a few months ago. I might give it a shot.

How about you explain it to me using something other than "it just does."

It's related to the notion of arc length, and the idea that the same angle subtends a larger arc if the radius is larger. Basically, if you have a longer stick, the theory is that the range of motion sits on a larger spherical shell. They claim a factor of 40% longer, so if we take the length of the stick to be 1 by default, the surface area of the new sphere goes like 1.4^2=1.96.

Sounds fine in theory, but I'd have to actually try it to see if it makes any practical difference.

I don't know about the rest of the world, but this geometrical argument is based around the idea of radian measure, which is not taught in 5th grade in the United States.

Doubt it.

A little help with US education curriculum and this particular issue:

So unless you were being taught High school geometry or introductory calc in 6th grade, I doubt you are remembering correctly what you were taught, exactly.

Either way...

In an attempt to un-derail this thread:

Has anyone else who ordered some of these because of this thread received theirs yet? What do you think?

Funny how a lot of people on here get away with insulting others. Either way, I found my own answer.

The increase is marginal at best, although I suppose if you only need a marginal increase in movement this is fine. I just don't understand why console developers won't support mouse and keyboard configurations.

Our textual explanations weren't sufficient?

Some games on the PS3 do, actually. It's just that Sony doesn't require all games released on the PS3 support keyboards and mice, so not all games developers take the time to add it in. Many of the first person shooters released on the PS3 (Call of Duty series) will work with USB keyboards and mice plugged into the console.

I was, actually... but by then it was something I had thought was common sense.

Actually no, as I am a visual learner.

So because they did not explain it in the exact manner you prefer, the explanation magically becomes invalid? Funny .

Wow, how closed-minded are you people? It's not invalid, it's just harder for me to envision what is being described. Have you people never heard of a visual learner? Enough of this already.

Wahhhhhh Internets waz meen to me!

Funny. You must fit in perfectly with the rest of the mindless console gamers.

why are you in this thread?? if your not a console gamer, and you just want to bash a product that doesn't make since to you. its real simple, i makes it easier to aim more precisely, yes its only a minute difference but thats all that it rerquires... furthermore its not a miracle worker (for fucks sake its only 10 dollars), but in an FPS such as MW2 it will improve the average player about 1-3kills a game, overtime that improves your kill/death a good bit.. in conclusion it is well worth its money and if you want to bash console gamers 4chan is that way -->

I was in this thread because I wanted to know how these things worked. Instead all I got was insults, and then I'm the one that gets an infraction. Hilarious.

You got insulted because you seemed to insist this item was useless and it doesn't help at all.

i am a visual learner as well, but i understood how it could work as in "visualized it" in my own head.

I have FPSfreek and Gel Tabz. I like Gel Tabz better because FPS Freek feels too high. Gel Tabz makes the sticks slightly higher and it's rubbery soft. For games like COD where you have to press in on the sticks all the time the soft rubber is very comfortable, whereas for FPS freek the higher stick elevation gives my hands cramps.

Interesting, thanks for the heads-up on these. After looking over some reviews it seems PS3 owners prefer the Gel Tabz while Xbox 360 users prefer the FPSfreek. Since I have a PS3, I'll be picking up some Gel Tabz and trying both out this weekend.

After playing with my some more over the weekend, they can cause some issues on the SixAxis / Dualshock 3 controllers. It can limit your movement if you "roll" the thumbstick because of the way it grabs on. I haven't noticed it to be a major issue though.

I would never get them for ps3 because the ps3s controllers already have good quality joysticks. I did buy them and use them on my 360 though. It helps a good deal, I just wish they would have made them a tad shorter. Very very basic physics shows that the higher they make them, the more precise you can be, but for me they are a small fraction of a millimeter too tall. When stretching to the top left corner, my thumb often feels like its really gotta stretch to get there which has cost me a few kills. However, i've only used them for a few days, and i keep getting better every day. Lately my kd has been about 2-2.5 so thats pretty decent.

do you guys use them on both sticks or just the right? I thought i heard just for the right stick somewhere. I just got mine in and used the right stick on a couple spec ops. Smooth motion for sniping.

yea i just use the right one, i tryed with the one oon the left and it just seemed pointless

I got mine in the other day and I think they are worth the purchase. I have been using them both on my PS3 controller with uncharted 2 and have noticed a different in my aiming being smoother. It is not a huge difference but it is enough to justify picking them up. I am going to take the left one off and put it on my 360 controller because it is pointless to use them both.

To me is not about the quality of the joy stick, nor is that in question, it is about the sensitivity of the joy stick and the range of movement required to act in a game, i am always finding myself over moving in killzone 2. I guess pending on your thumb length these may not be for everyone.

Question for those who bought the item:

When imagining it in my head, the one thing that comes to mind is that your thumb would have to be elevated higher, does this lead to fatigue?

Also - what is some of the feed back on the item for those who have used it? Pros, Cons?

and no with my M/L size hands, it does not lead to fatigue.

No it does not lead to fatigue, but it is wierd at first, takes some time to get use to being elevated but now i like it and the fit is really comfortable

PROS:
More precision on aiming
improved my k/d in MW2 by .2 so far
seems like you can get head shots easier, use less ammo, and can snipe better
The feel of it is very comforting to me so i guess that a pro
comes with 2 and you only need one so it allows for you to use it on 2 controllers
made very well, doesnt ever need adjusting, feels like a brand new joystick

CONS:
expected more, this product gets great reviews but i think it is because of the price(people dont expect something for 10 bucks to worth a shit at anything)
- takes some time to get use to the change

i'm kinda confused, i haven't got my own order of fps freeks yet but i'm still debating on wether i should put it above the left stick or not, any opinions on that ? some people state that they prefer using them only for aiming and not for moving but they do not provide any reasonable explanation ......

Tried the FPSFreek out but didn't really like it; it's just a tad too tall on the PS3 analog stick :(. I also received the Gel Tabz that someone recommended in this thread and I'm liking them a lot. They don't help with aim but they are pretty darn comfortable on my thumbs. No more red thumbs after long gaming sessions!

I thought the same thing at first. It took a couple days to get used to the height.

I picked up a pair and while I do like them.. they grind against the edge of the ps3 controller, which sucks. I also still suck at console fps, but thats just my problem

I ordered fps freaks from this thread, got them in 3 days, and to all those who say the improvement is marginal at best are dead wrong. I went from playing on 2 sensitivity to 6 sensitivity, and i play WAAAAY better... my k/d on MW2 of late has been a solid 3 or 4 no joke, and that was just with normal guns... now the last 2 days i've picked up the barrett... and lets just say that today I went 29/3, 30/4, 36/9, 38/3, and to cap it all off 29/0.... this is using a sniper and NOT camping... the increased sensitivity makes it so you can turn quick and get within the close area, and since the fpsfreaks make the joysticks so much more smooth and accurate, you can get some absolutely nasty drags on the quick scopes... if your a hard scoper, you wont be having any problems with 2 shot snipes anymore, because they are accurate enough that you can make sure you get chest or head in every shot... averaging 5 kd with a sniper while running around the map ( i was playing team deathmatch btw) absolutely proves that they help alot... before i got these i gave up on sniping because i could only go 1 k/d on average... give em a try, and give them a solid try.. after 2 days youll be good with them, after 4 you won't even notice their on the controller they feel so right..

playin on the 360 btw
